- In this latest video you will see how simple it is to make a cost effective, natural mosquito repellant (an original Paul Harvey recipe) that lasts all summer long...I had the goods on hand to do a triple recipe, but for an average city property, a single recipe will be perfect for a mosquito free summer at your home. Please comment any questions and thanks for watching, aliveafter55!!

NOT A JOKE! We have crazy nasty mosquitoes in Phoenix right now. I made this yesterday using the mist sprayer from Harbor Freight, and sprayed my entire large patio, driveway, and front walk. I then got a bit cocky and went out last night on the patio shirtless, scared out of my mind, but nothing happened. I stayed on the patio near the house at the dining table, and thoroughly enjoyed myself mosquito-free. GAME CHANGER! Thanks Paul Harvey! "PAGE TWO..."
Awesome! A bit unconventional the way you did it but it worked and i love it! Yes, thank u Paul Harvey is right!!
I'm in Tucson and yeah it's been pretty damn ridiculous. Any updates if it's still working?

OMG! It worked! My front porch and patio has been terrible for months now. I've been trying all kinds of things including coils, thermacells, multiple insecticides, citronella torches, lotions, bug zapper light and was still being eaten alive. I saw this video and had everything already on hand. Used Miller High Life beer, Sam's Club Epsom salt(so cheap there... $9.98 for 14lbs) and Colgate mint mouthwash(same blue color as what he used). I've been sitting out here for an hour after hosing down my porch and patio area and their perimeter and I haven't seen one single mosquito. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for sharing! LOVE IT! I'm in the Tampa Bay Florida area. I hope it lasts!

@aliveafter5589 what do you mean by from 2 yr to the next? Please explain
Hey Paul. Thanks for sharing this recipe. I moved into my new property a home that I built. Little did I know that I have a pond beside me. Last summer, we couldn’t bear sitting on the lanai. This year. I waged a war on mosquitoes. In April 2024 I saw a video online where a gentleman was showing how he killed millions of mosquitoes. I basically bought four black pails. Then went online on Amazon and bought the mosquito dunks. I placed all four pails on the perimeter of the property. I then purchased mosquito barrier and I have sprayed three times. The mosquito dunks in the pales is basically killing the ecosystem of the mosquitoes. It’s like neutering, a dog and cat. We have had over a dozen barbeques in our backyard by the poolside. And all I hear is where are the mosquitoes. Something you may want to try. I am going to go and purchase your items tomorrow and I will get back to you on my report, as the mosquito barrier that I purchase is very expensive. But it does work.
I tried this today and it does seem to work! I sprayed every screen and the perimeter of the house and patio and am amazed with the results. Thank you so much for this. I got bit badly yesterday but so far I haven’t seen or heard one mosquito. I appreciate you posting this.
Nice job, i just confess I haven't made it this year and getting bitten like crazy. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow!!
@@aliveafter5589 I just want to update. It’s been two weeks and we’ve had heavy drizzle and light rain, and still I have not seen another mosquito near the house. I can’t believe this works but it does.

@@aliveafter5589 how many times you spray on garden?
@@imnelfromtechpocket5770 thanks for your question. This is not a spray for on your garden... I spray around the perimeter of my garden. 2x a growing season which in Tennessee is about 6 to 7 mos.

thanks so much for the recipe, definitely going to try this! its so strange, I haven't been bitten by mosquitos for years but now that I moved all of a sudden they're chowing down on me! and I do so love my gardening, but its really miserable being covered in mozzie bites, and nothing seems to work to relieve the itches
I'm definitely going to try this. If I can keep my brothers from drinking the beers. They would say, " that's alcohol abuse". Well if it gets rid of the mosquito I will do it.
😂
For shiny hair, rinse your hair out in it. Also makes the best biscuits. Soak your feet in it, softens callusses. Shines up the bling too, while you're sitting at the bar. Marinates a good steak too.
I pour beer on anything I’m grilling, chicken, burgers etc... it hydrates the meat and adds flavour
I live out in the country in Texas. Nuff said! I'll try this. Thanks.

3 can(s) cheap flat beer, open the cans the day before mixing
3 c Epsom salts
1 large bottle of blue mouthwash
Gather ingredients and 1 gallon sprayer. Mix ingredients in the sprayer.
Spray on bushes, deck, porch, patio, grass....any where you want to sit outside, around the fire pit, camping, kids playground.

I live in SW Florida, on a river and the mosquitoes are brutal right now!!!! Can’t wait to try this. Thanks!!
That will be a test for sure!! Once you make it, apply when sun is up and mosquitoes are in their dark places. You are creating a barrier to keep them out, so you don't want to apply the perimeter, when they are buzzing like crazy. Hope that makes sense. Definitely will be a test, Jenny!! Thanks for giving it a shot!! 😎

I can’t wait to do this tomorrow we are having a party next week and the mosquitoes here in Southern California have been a nightmare this year they are a little hard to see ankle biters…

I was hoping you weren’t going to say spray it on the skin. I’m going to try this recipe. Thanks bro.
Your are more than welcome!!
Can you use this as a spray for people? I can't see why not..let us know
The beer has alcohol in it. The mouthwash has mint and alcohol in it. Mint repels a lot of bugs and alcohol will kill mosquitoes if sprayed on them. What I don't get is the Epsom salt, what does that do? The only thing I can figure is it absorbs the mint so it might last longer. Thoughts on the Epsom salt???
Sounds logical to me... Salt is a preservative!
This is interesting. I wonder how it works, i know mosquitos and flies don't like mint and will leave the area. But I don't understand the interaction of the beer and the Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate)

A couple of drops of dish soap holds them in the water when they land.. it helps

I’m going to try this tomorrow. This is our first spring here on this property in Montana and I’m getting bit constantly even through long sleeve shirts. I can’t even sit outside. I may use my backpack sprayer. I’m ready for battle!
You got this Joyce!!
VERY IMPORTANT: substitute one non alcohol beer for one of the real beers. The Epsom salt will not dissolve in alcohol so mix the Epsom salt with the flat non alcohol beer before adding it to mint mouthwash and real beers. I just used NA beer cause that's what was on hand.
Thanks for the info
I had popped the tabs on the (regular) beer and had it sitting in cans inside the jug I'd be mixing it in. It was about a week before I had the opportunity to get back to it, so I wonder if in that time the alcohol dissipated? Anyway, I had a very easy time mixing the Epsom salt into just the beer alone, then added in the mouthwash. Wanted to put that out there for anyone who had regular beer around in case they didn't want to make a special purchase of the nonalcoholic type. Did not get bit once as I sprayed my whole yard (small but a lots o' mosquito property) so I'm hopeful this is a success.
It's not enough alcohol to make a difference
I bought NA beer. But do I have to add one with alcohol? And if so, why not all without?
Vitamix fixes that issue
Can you substitute the beer with something else? I have Celiac Disease and can't use beer?
Warm the mouth wash up a little. Just warm as to not damage the mouth wash properties and the Epson salt will dissolve better and faster.
Great point!!
Or warm the bear slightly?
Do not warm bears up. It makes them angry and they attack. If you mistakenly do this, give them the beer you would have used for the recipe (to calm them) and go get yourself another supply. @@TheUniverseWorksForUsBeings

Oh my! Same here.

Will this mosquito brew stain pressure treated wood? I'm just wondering if I should spray on the grass surrounding our deck or on the deck edges. I am definitely going to give this a try in addition to using mosquito dunks to help curb their breeding. I may try spraying the perimeter of our back yard with this concoction but our yard fairly large at 80 ft wide by 100 ft deep. We back up to a forest and the mosquitos are so bad this year (even in the afternoon), that it is tough to be outside at all. Spraying ourselves with OFF insect repellant helps but it simply doesn't last very long.

Great i go to the tropics every yr. How about the body face ears.
Okay. I had mosquitoes EVERYWHERE. Even in broad daylight. Under the deck, above the deck, the porch. The garage. I couldn’t go anywhere without swatting. It was literally hindering my productivity and I was covered in bites. I sprayed the entire perimeter of the house yesterday, under the gutter, and under the deck and porch and inside the garage etc. I spent ALL day outside yesterday and only saw 5 mosquitoes the entire day. They’re virtually gone. And it even rained yesterday three times! Usually that makes it worse. They’re gone!! Side note I found mint Epsom salts, I know mint is a pest deterrent so I went with that. I just wonder how the beer fits in to this, what about it makes it work? 🤔
Stickiness I think
Beer has yeast in it, mosquitoes can’t digest Yeast
After mixed what does it smell like?
I just read on other thread...beer makes carbon dioxide...which mosquitos love...👍
they eat beer, then salt in it kills them.. you can also mix 1 teaspoon plain salt, a dash of dry yeast, 4 tablespoons of sugar in 2 cups of warm watter.. put it in a bottle.. make some holes in it.. once it starts fermenting mosquitoes come to drink it.. and then salt kills them when they fly off..

Hi, I am living in the tropics. Getting Epsom salt is not easy, so I ordered it from USA anyway for my garden and bodycare (really expensive because of the extra delivery). The mouthwash costs about 7 dollar here. A can of beer costs like 50 cents, so this is the only cheap one. I think, you can replace the mouthwash by a solution with peppermint essential oil or even selfmade mint in alcohol, because it is the mint that is important. What I really don´t get, is the meaning of the beer. Beer attracs bugs. If I leave an half empty bottle over night, I always find it full of flies and bugs in the morning. So I really try to find out if I could replace the beer with water and alcohol and replace the mouthwasch with a mint-alc solution (like I use for my body against moscitos.) Also inside use with that sticky mouthwasch and beer would not be recomendable. :D Has anyone tried to modificate this reciept?
Thanks for your question. I grew up in Liberia, West Africa on the equator and the humidity and bugs were horrible when you got away from the ocean and salt breeze. The epson salt is probably very important. I personally did not originate this recipe, Paul Harvey did to my best knowledge unless someone here can find otherwise. I've used ovee a decade and it works great for me. Never modified it. I live in rural Tennessee and the humidity is bad here but the bugs are worse, as i often have told my wife. Maybe some of our viewers followers habe modified? Good luck and sorry about the cost, our world has gone mad everything is expensive now!!
Beer 50 cents? Im moving to where you are..What area? Lol

@@fredgarza4228 great question, needs to be alcoholic because of the chemical reaction created with the other ingredients
Hey! Thanks for the video. Sincere question here: What is the rationale of using the different ingredients as the beer is a lure and the mouth wash is a repellant? Natural light cuz it's natural it's good for the environment
Does the mouthwash have to have alcohol in it?
Any idea how well this treatment works when irrigation sprinklers are used?
Not really but it lasts half the summer, even with rain, so I would just put the spray down with a perimeter thst isn't right on an area getting sprayed constantly.

I'm going to try this. So for three cups of epsons salts, and 16oz of mint mouthwash, you added 36oz of flat beer? is this correct??? So If I wanted to double it I could do 64oz of flat beer, six cups of espons salts, and 32oz of mint-correct? Thank you so much for helping us out. I pray that this works.
Yes Brad you got the recipe righ. , The hardest part is dissolving the Epsom salt. Use a wire wisk. I would start with a single recipe 1st. It goes a long way and if you end up not using the double batch this summer, it loses its efficacy next year after sitting around. It gets kind of sticky and hard to apply.

I meant to do this last year, and did not. I left the beer in the garage, unrefrigerated, hot and then cold. Would you recommend that I still use it, and ferment it outside for a day, or buy some new beer and let it ferment outside for a day?
Thank you, sir.
Probably should be fine to use
Great info. I’m going to try.
Let me know how it goes!!
Since never a beer drinker, I accidentally bought NA beer. No wonder I wasn't ID'd, lol. Will it work? I am a mosquito magnet. Anxious to try your recipe.
You can try using Isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol Instead. Hopefully It will work.
What is the function of the Epsom salts?? I’m doing this today. Mosquitoes are horrible in Texas
Wish I knew, Ann. The only item I'm sure on is mint masks our CO2 that comes off us. Good luck with this!! Apply when they aren't active and make your perimeter.
@@aliveafter5589 Thank you.
Please update how it's working for you. I live in Texas and the mosquitoes are out most of the day here eating me alive 😳
@@karen-gq4zd I think it's works pretty good. I sprayed my front entry and back patio. I will make another batch and continue to spray when I go outside
Epsom salt is actually used as fertilizer for potting plants. It is non toxic. It probably gives staying power once the liquid lands on the surface. Just guessing.
Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻
Do i HAVE to let the beer sit for a day first or can i mix everything right away. Will it still work
Can you spray this indoors ? Is it safe on clothing / furniture etc. Will it harm plants ? Thanks :)
@@getsmartpaul ... It's designed for outside, Paul, and you spray a perimeter around places you inhabit outside regularly or if you went camping, in places around your tent area. It is safe for clothes, pets, plants etc. I've never heard of a problem but I didn't originate it either.just used about 20 years
Can you spray it on yourself ?
How long does it last ? Or how often do you need to re spray ?
I do it every couple months. We have had so much rain here in TN this year, I will be doing it sooner. Mosquitoes really bad this year!
