I remember buying my first bike as an adult and seeing this video, it was a hard tail basic xc bike and I said well some day I am going to ride something like the men of the video is riding. It’s been 5 years and today it was my last ride on my hard tail, it has been a beautiful journey that I am never going to forget. Hello dropper post and front and rear suspension, we are going to enjoy this one.
Best upgrade ever. I was undecided due to my weight, but so far my Giant Switch SL 150x440 mm is a real treat. Even if it doesn't survive the summer, the fun I'm having so far is well worth it
Thank you for explaining exactly how it worked. I've seen other videos and they talk about them but didn't show the function. The information you provided gave me what I needed to understand how to use one and why to use one.
fun fact: I read in a dropper post manual, that you are to keep your head at least one foot away from the saddle all times, but it is ok to point it at your genitals.
Had my Reverb for 3 years. Out of all the upgrades, this is my favourite. One of the most reliable parts too as I haven't had a single issue with it yet.
He always gets to ride the best bikes. Gotta love that Scott Genius plus he's riding. On top of that he's rocking the new Crankbrothers dropper post. I love their remote how it's really customizable. I just bought the Easton Haven Dropper which is awesome but I'm debating whether to upgrade the remote to a shifter style one instead.
My new trail bike came with a dropper post, but after riding with it for a couple of months I ended up selling it and going with a normal seatpost, where I ride I just didn't really see the benefit of it, I'm probably quite accustomed to riding with my seat up too, the roughly 600 gram weight savings will offset the weight of some burlier dual ply all mountain tyres.
i think its great the first time i rode a bike with a droper i fell in love with the idea but not the price. so i made my own for $10 its under 1lbs just half to fabricate a cabel operated seat clamp. budget mtb hacks are the best. and gmbn you guys are awsome thanks for all the good vids
Grant Lawrence two things, yes you can get some externally, but also consider going with a drill and making a hole near the bottom of the seat post on your frame
I'm going to need to invest in a dropper seatpost soon. I've only had my bike for about a month, but I can't pop a wheelie/manual or even practice jumping because my post is at the "correct" height and even at it's lowest setting, it's still too high for practicing a few tricks 🙄
kinda reminds me of desk chair height adjustment. I wonder if the technology is similar. If it was the same you'd get some shock absorption to kick making it even more worthwhile mod
I'm a bit of a noob so forgive me for asking this question - Can the dropper post be used as a height adjuster? Meaning can I adjust the seat height on the fly.. using the remote and my weight for the adjustments? I'd prefer getting a dropper post just for that reason if that is possible rather than having to stop and manually adjust the seat height. Or am I wrong here and the only utility of a dropper post is for trail-riding so you can drop it down fully to get it out of the way and bring it back up once you cleared the obstacles. I guess what I'm asking is can the dropper post go down with different levels depending on how much I push it down with my weight (like a computer chair)? Or is it just max bottom and max spring back up?
They may seem expensive and I'm sure price probably puts some people off but they're sooo worth it. I'd hate to not have one now and have that saddle in the way again.
i can confirm that you can run a stealth dropper on a canyon grand canyon hardtail internally, just open up the unused fd (if using 1x) route with a drill and fish it out by bb, looks very clean. I just didn't need it
seems like added weight, cost and more to go wrong to me. Might be handy for some folks but a cheap, simple and effective QR clamp does the job for me. As I live in a rural area with only a few hundred yards of road and very few tracks or trails I spend most of my time wild biking over open landscape so the seat spends 90% of it's time low anyway. - For those that ride a mix of roads, tracks & trails a dropper post sounds like a good idea :-)
Hey guys. Could you do a video about "how to cope with overshooting a jump". I think when people ride a gap jump for the first time, they are concerned about coming up short and casing it, leading to people excessively clearing it. Also if you are riding a chain of jumps and one is shorter than the previous and you know your going to land on the flat, what do you do? Do you land back wheel first? I heard this stresses the forks alot. Cheers guys!
I keep my saddle in the high position because being the Wal-Mart cheapo bike it is, it doesn't have a dropper, nor do I feel it could be fitted with one. However, I've learned to work around the saddle; on steep descents I pretty much clutch the saddle between my legs. One of these days, I'm obviously gonna have to get a better bike, but I have to admit to becoming attached to my 26" Granite Peak; I've rode that thing for a whole year over 1000 miles; just can't part with it until it breaks. haha
I'm really wanting one of these, but here in Brazil it almost doesn't exist... when you find it, costs way much money :T of course I could buy from USA or Europe, but the import taxes are ridiculous high
So on a dropper post, the only setting is how far the base goes down in your seat tube? There's no setting for how much it extends when released? I ask because say a bike comes new with a dropper post, and you have the base down into the seat tube as far as it will go, but the seat is too high for you ride normally when fully extended, then what?
that's pretty handy, I ride a foldie bike and wanted to make it like a mini mountain bike, sadly I don't think it would be possible to put it on my bike
I have an aggressor comp and im wondering the same thing. I think its a worthy upgrade, getting the seat lower and out of the way helps with body position and getting comfortable. The trick is finding a dropper post that isnt half the price of a new bike haha
Got bought a Intense Spider 29c with a K S LEV dropper post . It started leaking only after a couple of weeks. They sent it back to be repaired been gone now for 2 weeks and got a message there waiting to get parts. Don't know how long it will be ? I asked for them to replace it but they wont agree. Not happy
I have a rochshox dropper, and whenever i sit on it,it just goes in,like a shock(not all the way in,and it comes back up when i get off it),plus when i lift my bike holding the saddle it comes out,is that okay,or should i get another one?
My 400mm bizango seat post can drop 250mm into the tube. Would I be able to fit a 170mm dropper (274mm insert including actuator) with 30mm left below the collar? So 244mm inserted in the frame. Just curious as the measurements say yes yet I've read someone saying you can't even fit a 150mm post. Maybe they're just assuming a full insert.
Global Mountain Bike Network I got a second hand bike and it has a dropper seat posy but it doesn't go back up by its self. How can o fix it. Please help.
Hi, I am planning to use downtube shifter (like) device for my bike. I have 2x360 Nuvinci hub and double crankset on the front. I had 3x9 before and an XT shift lever, then I adjusted the stopper to reduce it to 2s shifter. I didn't want to buy 2s shifter and still don't. My question is: How do the seatpost dropper lever works? Is it capable to do Lo-Hi positions or does it work in press-release principle and returns to same position when untouched?
never realised dropper posts are hard to push down, (atleast for me) I got one, the bike was the last one, probably been sitting there for a while, and why does my fork when I bleed the air a bit it spews out a pink liquid?
Hi, i have a question, I have an adjustable 150mm to120mm dropper, I had the lower section all the way down and the height adjusted to the max 150mm, but I’ve been looking at pictures and there is always some bit of the lower section exposed. Should I dial the height to 130mm and adjust the lower section up so it shows ? Thanks
is it okay to leave your dropper post down when not in use? Because i want to avoid possible scratches in stanchion when bike is not in use. Im using brandx ascend
I didn't know my bike had one of these, mid technical section the seat shot straight up and hit me in the balls. Worst part is I had to come to this guide to find out how to get it to go back down.
How well does that crank brothers remote fit with your lockout? I'm looking to try it in conjunction with my fox lockout lever that's a bit bigger than the Scott lever
So I just test-rode a bike that had a dropper post that my fat ass was still not fat enough to drop. I had to get off the bike and drop the elbow on it before every hill, yet it no problem returning to full extension. Is this a common occurrence, and if so, is it easy to fix? Never having used a dropper before, this made me hesitant to buy one...especially a used one...
So I have a reverb and noticed that when the seat is low and you pull it back up without pushing the lever it actually goes up then goes back down (kind of like a trombone). Not really an issue but I was wondering if this behavior is normal or if something is wrong with mine
Never pull on a Reverb when it is not extended. You've likely worn out the seals, and are only doing more damage to them as you do it. Not exactly your fault, but they are by far the least reliable "big brand" dropper out there.

So I want to get a dropper post for my hard tail. Question is, my bike doesn't come with a built in hole for running the cables internally. Should I drill a hole so I can run the cables internally or just run them externally?
Run it externally, zip ties work great to secure the cable to the frame or possibly another cable. Drilling holes in the frame weakens it and voids any warranty.
I'd get one if they weren't so expensive and unreliable, so much so i'm considering a mechanical one to get my feet wet. thinking about the RSP post in 27.2mm so its compatible with all my bikes.
Similar issue. My original seat post has a diameter of 29.8. The only working dropper post I found that could fit is a ICE V8 DELUXE with a diameter of 27.2 + adapter 27.2->29.8 After 1 year, I am really fed up with the ICE V8 and would like to upgrade. Sounds like I have to change the whole bike to get something better. If anyone knows about a good dropper post atht would fit in 29.8, I'll be interrested. Thanks.
#askGMBN I have a problem with my dropper post. My first one came up without pressing the button when I pulled it lightly, so ROCKSHOX replaced for me. My current one is a ROCKSHOX reverb stealth B1 and I've just noticed that it does the same, but with a harder pull. HELP! Is this normal? How do I fix it? Thanks
Its really difficult for us to diagnose things without having the bike! Take it to your local bike shop and ask them as it could be a variety of things :)

@@xxfyrezgamerxx6279 I got a PNW cascade a few days ago and it’s awesome! Just what I needed riding trail and xc
We're in the same page
Like a dishwasher, nobody needs a dropper post, however, once you have one you can't imagine life without one.
What a ridiculous statement. Humans only 'need' food, water, shelter and warmth. Whoever thumbed that up should stick their thumb up their ass.
Well of course Chuck Norris doesn't think a dropper post is necessary. Chuck Norris once won Leogang chainless...going uphill.
No, I think a dropper is necessary. Dumb ass.
LOL
Chuck Norris, you are TOO angry man!!! Chill
I'm tiered of having to stop and change my seat height. I can't wait to get a dropper post

Yes, Fully extended correct seat height for you.

You can just use an angle grinder if you want to put holes in your frame
