100% agree with you Greg, tow my fifth wheel with my single rear wheel Duramax. Then had the same trailer behind my friends Duramax dually. And it feels 150% more planted. Even without his truck having bags.

Man I love the 08. That truck is un stoppable I hope you keep that truck forever Greg! It seems like it hauls as good or better than the dually. They have their differences but the 08 holds its own!
Didnt you say you have the air bag lines connected to each other. Then to a single line out on this truck? If you still have that, when you take turns it pushes air out of one bag and into the other. That's probably what you're feeling.
@@bouchee2007 if you have bags set up this way it's a fact that's what happens. And he stated a while back when he put bags on another truck that's how it was setup.

@@bouchee2007 and I realize that is what a dually is for. But I have single tire 3500 06 Cummins. It runs heavy weights just fine. I dont have bags. I have large tires as well.

I totally understand and respect your decision, I've been there done that. You were the only reason I was going to make the trip, I guess I'll be stay home too this weekend. I hope Ally feels better
The suspension on it wouldn't hold the weight, not to mention the 1st Gen, from 1992, isn't legally rated to tow that much. Plus it has a welded rear diff, and no gooseneck hitch.
Balls up Dude! Towing that much weight on single rear wheels! I had a 99 2500 4x4 that I towed a 8k horse trailer with, I was cruising on interstate around 70 mph and rear tandem trailer tire exploded. That made me start thinking, I really needed a dually as often as I towed the horse trailer. I just kept imagining the rear truck tire blowing with that weight towing 2 horses at highway speeds. I stepped up to a 2005 dually and of course went with a 42'x8'wx8't living quater horse trailer, that dually towed like a dream and much more stable towing 14k than the single rear wheel towing 8k.
Towed my 16.5Klb toy hauler with a 6.7 with the 68rfe then got the dually with the Aisin. There is no comparison, the Aisin is hands down a better towing Tx. The exhaust brake was solid with no drive train torque flex when decelerating like the 68rfe had. No gear hunting, always in the right gear at the right time. Day and night difference.
Only problem is that the Aisin can't be tuned ...especially important if making big power like I'm sure Greg is planning for. Also, replacements are in the 10k range if it breaks.
Hi Greg. I have a 04 with the HO 6 speed. I have a enclosed trailer that weighs 5k empty. When I’m in 1st or reverse taking off slowly or backing in a tough area I get a choppy hop in the clutch the whole truck will shake if I’m kinda mid clutch. If I let the clutch out all the way or push it in it will stop. I’ve had the truck for a couple years. Could this be a flywheel issue where it has hot spots? Or is this normal?
Awesome awesome video Greg A, I am shocked at how well the 08 handled the fully loaded race trailer. I figured it would do well performance wise, cause I know you like to keep them running top notch lol, but stability wise was gonna be the biggest thing, and stopping wise. It did surprisingly well for a single rear wheel truck for that kinda weight. Usually for that gross weight a dually is about the only way lol. But I also think the traction bars on the 08 helped t some too. And sorry for the late views and comment between work and spending time with the ol lady I’ve fallen behind on videos lol.
I never tow heavy in 6th. Rarely in 5th with my 68RFE. But mine has the 3:42 gears. Hard to trust overdrive especially if you watch RUclips any. 18,000 Miles, so far so good though
Also commenting before watching but if the 08 stick with less power can tow it (it made it to the scales for the thumbnail at least) the 05 should be able to do the same just shorter wheelbase making it tow less well
That amount of weight riding on rims like that would have me walking on egg shells worrying about rim failure. On the other side, what foam wash setup is that? Curious to try a touchless wash system.
