Kenny has been my guitar hero for years! The man has such taste. He builds up tension like no other and has that silky smooth touch! I recorded a instrumental the other day and just laughed because I've stole so many of his licks lmao 🤣
i am one of those jazz chord melody guys who love all music. 72+ and still practice and gig more than ever. your tone and lyricsm are beautiful. perhaps it is syntax, but i conceive the diminished not as a substitue for the V chord, but as an extension. it adds the b9 to the G7 to extend it to a G7b9 which is a 5 note chord, the last four of which form a diminshed. i love how you played the D7 to G7 over the G. I tend to see G7 as Dmi7 to G7 with the C-B leading tone but you create more movement by going to D7 first and the F# catches the ear. And that may have a more authentic bluegrass sound...authentic or not, it's still really cool. None of what is say is to be interpretated as a correction of any kind, just adding another perspective to the discussion.
