Ben me again,I just tried your method and found that after prying one side open I was able to pull out old cable about 1.5 /2cm I then cut that by the strain relief paired(stripped) back the insulation of the cable ,then soldered new cable to the old one that was still attached to p.c.b. And fitted the new cables after wrapping insulation to avoid a short, closed the box back up reversing your procedure and voila ! Did not have to remove contents of charger or open the case completely ,wicked ;0) none of this would have been attempted had it not been for your excellent video .wicked buddy and Bless you .
The video is fantastic and the explanation is excellent. Could you please share a new link to purchase the cable as the previous one appears to be broken? I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide.
A couple of cable ties might be better than super glue so it won't be much of an issue when you need to replace this cable again. Great Video Ben. I am sure you have just saved a lot of people a lot of money.
Why so many companies continue to use crappy plastics is anyone's guess. It might be a good idea to augment the stress relief devices - now - since their failure is inevitable. Perhaps silicone based "rescue tape" or adhesive lined heat shrink tubing would be useful. Either choice would serve to bolster the stain reliefs mechanical integrity, and to reduce atmospheric oxygen exposure - potentially - delaying the plastics eventual degradation. Or not, but it's probably worth trying. Next time, use a couple of bricks to hold it together while the adhesive sets up. Gravity may not be your friend, but often you can force it to work for you. Great video. Your skills are progressing nicely! S
Thanks Steve! And good recommendation for the bricks, I should have just used a vice though, haha! Even though the plastics may degrade due to oxygen, I think the real issue here is Apple's choice of el cheapo plastics in their $80 chargers...
Impressive young man ,Articulate explanation ,better than the others I watched ,Thank you very much ,I wish you a happy and successful you tube career,Bless!
Great video as usual Ben! It's great to see how fast your channel is starting to grow!! Also just out of curiosity, what is the name of the song in your intro?
Thanks for a great video. Keep them coming. Ben I have a question. Is there any other way you can shut it the case so if it happens again you can easily open it to repair it again ?
Yes Mike, you could potentially use zipties but I haven't actually tried that method myself. You could always use some acetone to remove the superglue if you wanted to replace the cord again though.
There are two models of supplies, the 85w one and the 65w one. The 65w is for the 13" MacBooks and the 85w is for the 15" and 17" ones. Depending on whether you have a retina display MacBook Pro you will need to either get the MagSafe 1 or 2 cord, thats all.

this is the best tutorial on RUclips for replacing your cable. Thank you so much!
Wow, thank you, I'm glad it helped!
Don't use a screwdriver to bust it open. Fold out the corner tabs and then use the pliers to force it open, as you did later :-) Nice video!
What a good speaker: articulate and smart. No nonsense. Thank you.
Much appreciated- thank you for watching

Thanks for helping me grow the channel to almost 2,000 subscribers! Your support is greatly appreciated.
Ben Builds: that's awesome man....though as helpful as this video is I can't perform any of these actions cause I'm 12..

Hmm.... great idea. The cable ties wouldn't look as nice but it certainly would provide the strength and ease that people would be looking for.
Ben Builds: Very true, it wouldn't be pretty, but who is actually looking at the charger?

Awesome tutorial! Bet lots of people will want to do this with their old power cords.
Great video as usual Ben! It's great to see how fast your channel is starting to grow!! Also just out of curiosity, what is the name of the song in your intro?
Hmm.. I think that one is called Microchip.
how do you know it is the cable and not the box that is broken? I have a faulthy charger but the cable seems fine.
You saved my 100 bucks, thanks man

thats true! thanks for the response brother. keep the videos coming!
love your videos, keep up the good work.
Thanks! Glad to have you!
Hi! What if i dont have the soldering? Is there any other method? Thx mate
You could use a lighter to heat up a bit of metal to make a makeshift soldering iron maybe.
Instead of buying the new cord and soldering to the block, you could strip the original cord and solder it in.
Nice Ben. 7 bucks beats paying 70.
Ben: Another good & useful video. Do you know if each model has a unique supply? Or, can you put any con any supply?

Can you just buy the box section?
The link for the cable no longer works. Do you have another like for a new cable?
Just search eBay for your model computer with "magsafe" added and you should find it. Make sure it looks identical in the picture.
This video would be perfect if u didn't have the music constantly playing the whole time 😂 but thanks dude my charger just fried out on me lastnight
WHAAAAATTT?! I had no idea I could just replace the cable! thanks!
No problem!
@@BenBuildsDIY Realy ? How about output voltage ?
Thanks for helping me ... i'm brasiliam, very good class
Great Job
Great guide! And planned obsolescence for sure. ;)
:) Agreed!
I've saved even more money by avoiding Apple products altogether!
Looks a bit of a trail. Just pay for a new one.
love it
Can I also use a glue gun?
I would rather spend 60$ on ebay and buy a new charger. Ridiculous waste of time compared to the cost.
Keep in mind the eBay ones are usually knockoffs and isn't 25 min of your time worth $53?
I wonder if using a heat gun to soften the glue before prying would have made the teardown easier. Any idea?
