Not only is there a “holy grail motherland” dumble SSS there, but a two rock is a holy grail in its own respect as well. They are magical to say the least. A vintage blackface fender is no slouch either. That amp trio sounds unreal live, got to witness it at Madison square garden
I never understood why there is so much hate for the jmod! His Dumble is like 200k and the two rock also costed 8500$ when it was for sale! So 6k for a jmod doesn’t sound to bad to me. Also I think we just have to accept that John Mayer lives in a whole different world money wise!
I saw him at MSG on February 20, he sounded incredible to say the least. His sound just “filled up” the entire room every single time he started soloing
I was at the hollywood palladium show this past week and his tone was absolutely brilliant, i was just being blown away constantly by the sounds he was getting from those amps, john was on fire that night
Saw the Sob Rock tour in Tampa and it was a great show. I wasn't close enough to be looking at John's gear, but I've seen him a total of 4 times and to me he's always had a killer tone.
The greatest thing in guitar playing is the fact the entire world wants mayers tone circa continuum. But if you or I had those guitars and those amps and plugged right into his stuff…… it wouldn’t be right. We just all think it’s some trick but it’s not. It’s just him.
It makes me sooooo excited to know ima hear the tone he used in his battle studies tour since I missed out on that tour. And I love the performances/tones that came out of that tour!
Worth remembering that the Bandmaster and Vibroverb were both Fender AB763 circuits, so the major difference was that the Vibroverb had a 15" speaker. Looking at the cab the Bandmaster is on, there's definitely room in there for a 15" speaker, or it could be a 12". Hopefully at some point we get a photo from the back of the amps and can see better. I do think it's kinda funny that he's gone to such a small number of speakers now after, in the Battle Studies era, having 6 2x12" cabs at one point for the same number of amps 😂
He could have a EVM in one of these cabs too and the 64 BM killer through that speaker in a oversized cab. I got one with my Kerry Wright cabinet & it sounds huge. What I’m curious about is if he’s had a tech do wattage increase for it or not. A lot of people I know do that with these even though they already have loads of cleans at 40
I saw JM at opening night for the Sob Rock tour in Albany on the 17th. Tones were off the charts, mostly used the Nebula Silver Sky and brought out a black SE model for Gravity. Really interesting selection for the show. Just INCREDIBLE!
Imma say something slightly controversial. When John played the super eagle during the search for everything, that’s when his tone lit up. And overall, his tone is pretty cool during that era. Maybe I’m just sentimental. Anyways, you’ve become my eat breakfast RUclipsr so keep up the good work man
Do we have confirmation of the mics he's using on the cabs? They look like Shure SM7B's. I just saw him in SF at Chase Center this weekend, and honestly I've never heard a better guitar tone. It was a spectacular show in every way!
The bandmaster is probably my favorite number 3 on his rig. A true blackface fender just adds a level of looseness and mid range that other amps lack. This is probably the reason some of my favorite tones were from 2010 when I saw him at the Bowl & Red Rocks
Hey Justin.... Love you channel. Do you like your Traditional Clean? I am looking for a new amp and have been looking at Two Rock, amplified nation, bludotone and matchless... Amplified nation is near me as I'm in Massachusetts and I like the idea of supporting a long business. I will have to see if JM will be coming to my area soon.... (algo being fed) I'm a PRS fanboy but not interested in their amps...
If you're looking for that sound, Two-Rock or Bludo are hands down the way to go over Amplified Nation, IMHO. Those brands also have notably better resale value (if that's a factor for you). Welagen is another fantastic builder you should check out.
I'm glad Mayer realized that his tone is far better using the Two Rock/Dumble combo instead of the PRS amp. It seems like my favorite players are all using Two Rock amps now. Did Mayer mend fences with Two Rock?
I have a 65 bandmaster head and it's amazing. No reverb but it has a sound unlike anything else I've played. Currently looking for a tremolux because it's the same basic design but with a tube rectifier.
Hey Justin, I wanted to hear what you have to say about the JMOD 100 and what happened with that whole thing. Seems like they released the amp and then pretty soon afterward I'm pretty sure he stopped using it even with Dead and Co. Is that true? Let me know what you think
There were some cool sounds on The Search For Everything. Rosie is a particular standout. Also Movin' On has some good tones but probably the most weirded out I've ever been was when was playing that pink Charvel or whatever it was on like the Ellen show. It was just wrong. LOL!
Great stuff Justin! The real question for me is what amp/s does he play at home? I Love the tone he gets when he does the Instagram tutorials. I wonder if it is a champ? Or maybe the PRS?
Regarding the Bandmaster, there isn’t a lot of difference between the circuits of the Vibroverb and the Bandmaster except that the Bandmaster has not a reverb. It’s a small cap on the phaseinverter that is more or less the difference. Maybe John has the cap changed on the Bandmaster? I think it would be more convinient to tour with heads and cabs separate. Maybe the speaker cab under the Bandmaster is a 1x15 like the Vibroverb? Time will tell
I owned a Dumble Land special that was given to me by Taron Porter, Bass player for the Doobie brothers as a wedding present ..! it is my understanding that Howard built this amp for bass guitar …! One of my regrets is trading this amp straight across for a VHT put ball to making music in Los Angeles. I wonder if anyone knows where that ant is now ..?
& As far as it being modded I honestly don’t believe it’s been modded there’s really no reason too. I feel like this is in my area of expertise since I collect old fenders and work on them quite a bit. This particular circuit that he’s got usually get snagged quick when they hit the market for good reason. These amps were near perfect out of the factory. They already have very good cleans & have far more headroom than a lot of amps out there and there fairly easy to revoice. All one needs to do is have it running in spec & in his case he probably has a full NOS setup with black plate RCAs & wallah. I just can’t picture him using a fender with the sort of mod that people have speculated about. I wouldn’t be surprised if John does have a couple fenders that do have the ultraphonix voicing but I just don’t think he’d use them live
Mayer's fascination and experimentation with gear is one of the best things about him. John has been using Fractal gear more and more. Eventually he's going to make the switch. So much work hauling and tweaking all those amps and cabs. Ugh.
Clapton's Fender amps are DEFINITELY modded by Dumble and literally he has this special circuit in them where every knob is just set to 7. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if John had his modded. Also Kenny Wayne Shepherd has Dumble modded Twins.
Do you take into account that JM intentionally deceives us with gear on stage? As we know (11 years ago there was a rig rundown) most of his pedals are hidden in a rack back stage and wired in back stage. I guarantee he throws pedals and amps up that he never uses. I just wonder which ones
Hi mate, Another excellent vid. I am hooing someone on here could shed some light on the speakers used in all his cabinets. John Mayer Gear on Instagram said the 2x12 cab had EVM's and they weren't sure whats in the both 1x12 cabs. If anyone coukd help out that woukd be great
Your channel is amazing! As a new John Mayer fan I am learning new things everyday because of your channel!!
Thank you so much Adam!! 🙏🏻
What cracks me up is the fact that he doesn't use his own signature PRS amplifiers
I remember reading that he once mentioned his love for fender amp and it's post JM-fender season
Maybe not but he sure likes his PRS signature Silver Sky's.

Yeah well I mean who likes a $7000 pc board amp?

Seeing him in DC next week. So stoked.
It makes me sooooo excited to know ima hear the tone he used in his battle studies tour since I missed out on that tour. And I love the performances/tones that came out of that tour!
It's sooooo nice to look at, let alone hear

Not all vibroverbs came with the 15 though. They were quite expensive even to get back then and it was more money for the Factory JBL

dude that‘s a crazy cool setup
I'll be at the show March 1st in NY, cannot wait!
I saw JM at opening night for the Sob Rock tour in Albany on the 17th. Tones were off the charts, mostly used the Nebula Silver Sky and brought out a black SE model for Gravity. Really interesting selection for the show. Just INCREDIBLE!
I don’t doubt it dude!!! That Matte Charcoal SS is actually a Standard model! The Moon White SE was brought out for New Light!
@@JustinJeske well thank you very much for that! Appreciate the reply. Can't wait for the day I can get my hands on one of those Roxy Pink ones!

Where can I find the picture of the thumbnail?

Was there a tour when we was using some cabs with vintage 30s in them?
On the David Cobb rig rundown he talks about his dumble modded blackface deluxe. Definitely a possibility that bandmaster is too.
What strings is he using at this time?
What the brand of cab he uses ? Alleandro or something like that ?

I just got a 66 Bandmaster myself yesterday! I'm in love with it too!!
Hey Justin, are you going to the Toronto show on Feb 27th? I’m praying its not canceled because of dumb restrictions. Any thoughts?
Thanks for this cool vid too !! Any idea if all pedals runs through amp ?
Are these amps daisy chained from 1 into the next or does the guitar output split into all 3 amps at once?
Hey Justin, I wanted to hear what you have to say about the JMOD 100 and what happened with that whole thing. Seems like they released the amp and then pretty soon afterward I'm pretty sure he stopped using it even with Dead and Co. Is that true? Let me know what you think
I have a 65 Bandmaster. Extremely clean amp
not going to lie justin, I think this live tour sound might be up there next to where the light is!
Is he using the SE's? Some of those are SE's in that first picture right?
John said he will use it in some songs on tour

He did one insta live back in the day at home and was using SSS 004 so who knows his range of amps at home!
@@JustinJeske oh no! I hoped it would have been something more modest!
Any gossip going on with the JMOD amp? Looks like he’s phased it out at this point

Do you know pls which cabinets are?? There is no brand name on them
They are all PRS! The 2x12 cab is a JMOD one!

is he mic'ing them with Shure SM7 ?
Yup!
He has said himself it’s modded. It was in one of his interviews with Paul.
You got a link to that by chance?

Nothing can top Mayer fender era in terms tone & playing
Mayer's fascination and experimentation with gear is one of the best things about him.

Can you do a review of Justin Bieber next……
I can always count on a dumb comment from you for engagement hey? Thanks a bunch man!
💘 P r o m o s m!!!
God the J-MOD is such a mess, he never even plays it why did he make it that way
I wonder that haha.

Too much talk, no listening to the amps.
Hi mate,
