Neither the X-15 nor the SR-71 was fighter jet. The X-15 wasn't even a jet, it was a rocket plane. It was also experimental only, unarmed, and never intended for combat of any kind. The SR-71 was a reconnaissance/spy jet, also unarmed, and also not intended for combat.
