- On Friday 7th February, Emerald Headingley Stadium hosted a special gala dinner in aid of former Rhinos star Rob Burrow to raise funds to support him and his young family following his diagnosis with motor neurone disease.
A host of sporting stars attended on the night and here we hear from Barrie McDermott, Josh Warrington, Gemma Bonner, Stuart Pearce, Micah Richards and Will Greenwood about the impact Rob has had on them plus the man himself speaks about the night and the impact the support he is receiving has had on him and his family.

The love for this man is spread way beyond Rugby League now.
It's hard as a sportsman to be liked by opposing fans when you're playing, but it was hard to find anyone who disliked Rob burrow even before this illness struck. Legendary player and bloke.
You just never know, how amazingly brave & so very strong minded you can become. When you are personally challenged, by an unforgiving illnesss.
Love & wonderful loving family ❤ Keep as fresh in your mind as you can Rob ⭐️🙏⭐️
From a Union fan, Rob Burrow a fighting legend. and his mate Kevin
What a legend. I am an 88 year old man, and I have seen Rob play for Leeds on countless occasions, and the rugby world will have a long wait before they find his equal both as a player and as a man, I am not ashamed to admit that there were times, as I watched this tribute to this sporting hero, that I found myself having to dry my eyes. Thank You Rob.
Rob Burrow went out of his way in his own time to go to my brother in-laws fire station and present him with a signed Rhinos shirt on his retirement. A totally decent bloke. That’s why we all love him. Little guy, massive heart.
HE IS AN AMAZING MAN AND WILL BE MISSED ALL OVER THE WORLD 🌎 💙 ❤️ ♥️ 😢 😢 HE ALSO PLAYED FOR ENGLAND 🏴 A HERO FOREVER 🏴 🇬🇧 😿 😢
Rob, you are a very decent Human being, God has blessed you, this body you are currently in is only a shell my friend, there's bigger things to come. Respect from Australia, we could have used you in your time at Parramatta. You bloody champ!
The mark of the man…to plant seeds to create trees he may never shelter under. Rob Burrow was a true champion in every way. Sleep well Rob 💙
Rarely has a player so epitomised everything that is good in sport in the way this Yorkshire lad has.
Speaking as a simple fan, there were many wonderful seasons which I will never forget. Rob brought us so much pleasure, skill, drama and enjoyment - along with the blood, sweat and the tears. Thank you Rob.
Final piece with Josh Warrington; hard man boxing champion close to tears. It takes a tough man to cry in public, but he was almost there.
That is respect for someone else's situation.
Rob was an inspiration during his playing career for adults and kids. And he still does inspire despite his illness.
My greatest respect to you rob.
Inspirational ❤ God bless
Just wow what a lovely fella and I can watch all his greatest trys over and over again purely just on the speed and size and hes a legend and truly a brave man GOD BLESS
Makes me bring a tear each time I see him and how positive he still is , keep going rob .

Sadly 😥 he has passed away 😢 though he is a HERO FOREVER now 😢
I can't give 👍 likes to every comment. I used to watch 🏉 league with my old neighbor & thought Rob was insane playing until he got the 🏉 & started running 😅 just crazy unbelievable stuff he did on the pitch. Bradford 🐂/ Northern salute & respect you Rob
I'm a saints fan but I loved to watch rob borrows run rings around those big men. Good luck rob and fight on.xx
You Paul and others like you make me proud to be a Rugby League fan. We all stand together for our own.
Rob you are true hero .
Situations like Rob's really, really .. test your faith.
So much more publicity needs to be given on this disease.
It’s a tragedy what has happened to Rob but so much more money needs to be invested in fighting this horrific disease.
Best wishes Rob, Doddie Weir and anyone else suffering with MND. 👍👍👍💪💪💪
just to say if I see just one dislike on this whoever does it is so ungrateful and disrespectful
Rob helped me believe I could play rugby league, I was way too short I thought and only weighed 9 and a half stone but he was for me the torchbearer. I only ever played in the Pennine league but what he accomplished in his career, his inspirational play, and dogged determination helped me have the self belief to give it a shot. I have never been a Rhinos fan as such but you can see the togetherness and it is refreshing to see
I cannot believe how quickly this young man is deteriorating I’ve been in tears watching him trying to speak so so sad he’s such a young man ,my heart goes out to his wee family ,you are in my thoughts and prayers Rob
The man has more bottle than a 6 foot four player ,shows what you have meant to your former players over the years ,true mans man ,but his family is his world ,,thinking of you and your family ,,true legend ,a one off
Total and complete respect.'m about the same size. I played a lot of different sports. It was always a challenge to compete at a better than average level against far bigger and stronger opponents. But like Rob, you develop ways around it. Very hard on the body though.Sincere condolences to his family and those who loved and knew him.
Rob Burrow may be short in stature but he's a giant of a man
Rob burrow top bloke keep battleing mate good turnout
Im from pontefract and can remember Rob doing my presentation back in day for my rugby team always been a nice bloke not many super league players have time to do amatuer club presentations so it says alot about Rob that he did that out of his own time god bless him X
I live in Ponty too, his eldest went to the same baby group as my eldest. He always had time to chat, even to a chubby, amateur rugby union player like me. He's a great bloke, him getting MND is so bloody cruel but he's faced it so bravely.
True legend
Just watched this again and it's made me want to double my contribution to the magnificent Kevin's crowd funding page
Does any other countries sportsmen/women pull together for one person like this? Unbelievable showing from all these sports people.
I'm 1 year younger than rob, and from Yorkshire, played rugby league from the age of 6yo to 25yo ( obviously not professionally? )
But I believe moving forward and to protect the greatest sport on earth (rugby league) there has to be more compulsory rules surrounding head protection, especially at junior level.. science is proving this, and I know there'll be backlash, but can't we even consider scullcaps as a simple mandatory part of the game?
Gone are the days of who's the hardest man on the field!!!!
That cab still be settled whilst wearing head protection...
Just my thoughts👍
Whether it was union or league, every supporter of any team would have nothing but respect for the man, that's rugby, both codes in a nutshell.
RiP rob from a wire fan 🎉
If you watch the documentary about him. He probably struggles to talk with his illness.
I watched it mate so so sad
Some of these so called stars mainly leftie football pundits??? Aren't fit to be in the same room as a true SPORTSMAN ,HUSBAND AND FATHER LIKE ROB
Lifelong minor concussions decimating contact sport.
So what is your excuse moron?
Spot on Josh warrington 👍
