perry como did an equally great samba album (with stronger vocals and some of the same songs) which was released some months before the sinatra/jobim album. i always thought sinatra did his como imitation on the jobim album.
@@top5records796 You know the song, One for My Baby (and One More for the Road). The album cover captures the essence of the moment were he finally steps out of the bar at 3:05 AM, pausing for a moment in the middle of the night before walking home.
I just bought 4th and 3rd place on vinyl last week. Was also happy to have found Franky At The Sands. I always make sure that the records are as old as possible. Old vinyls just sound different.
I love the passion you put in this review. I have always considered Sinatra to be the best, and an American treasure. Although Watertown has never been one of my favorites, I confess, I didn't really know the background as I have only heard sections of it. Now I want to sit down and listen to the full album. I agree with your other choices for being spot-on. Thanks so much for your great work and keep it coming!
I mean this as a compliment. For a young guy (I'm an old guy) you seem quite knowledgeable. It's pretty bold putting Watertown at number 2. I think I'll subscribe to your channel. Much respect to you.
Where Are You- the songs are wonderful. Lonely Town, The Night We Called It a Day… The arrangements by Gordon Jenkins have so many counter melodies especially at the end of the songs. Sounds like Mahler symphonies.
Did you know that in the wee small hours is perfect for sleeping because it has nothing but very slow ballads? I've heard songs for swinging lovers, and in the wee small hours,in the wee small hours is perfect for sleeping because all the songs are all slow ballads,I didn't think It was gonna be an upbeat album, but its all slow, and i really like it,and i was crying the last time i heard it,it was a masterpiece, very deep and hits different in the early hours. And it is also the best sounding monophonic album in the world and it makes you cry every time!
I know, have and love these albums too. There is this album Cycles which has one song on it......whenever I put it on I start crying. I never had that even not with any Beatles song. Sinatra is so special. great great great ..... thank you for that !
@@top5records796 Thanks again. It was much fun to watch and listen to a couple of your great rankings. The song from Cycles what touches me so extremley is Gentle on My Mind. I dont know why maybe it is also the songform and the many modulations. I just start crying when someone puts it on. It sometimes happens when listening to Long and Winding Road or many other Beatles songs. But this is so emotional to me. I even didn't really listen to the lyrics. It's funny, actually you can call it a pop album. It has a photo with George Harrison and Frank in the booklet which is interesting.
Interesting content and I respect your entitlement to opinion. Of the albums you have listed, I’d probably buy the concert at The Sands album. Thank you for this content 😊
You are absolutely right! 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1.......perfection. But may favorite album of all is Wee Small Hours. God!! And some of his "suicide albums" A Cottage for Sale...damn! And others.
Watertown is my favorite Frank Sinatra album -- it reminds me a lot of the two albums that Jimmy Webb did with Richard Harris and also of the Scott Walker albums from that same era.
I sure have! That is a beautiful album aswel. Same as Come Fly With Me, Where Are You? No One Cares and his christmas album. I think Sinatra made some of his best music in the late ‘50s.
@@top5records796 Agreed. Those Swinging Capitol Albums from the 50’s were incredible. His work with Nelson Riddle. WOW. I have them all. Also agree with Sinatra at the sands. Great sounding album. You have great taste! Always look forward to your videos.

Hi Tommy! I've been collecting Sinatra for about 50 years now. I know a thing or two myself. Lol. I've digitized my collection, which includes his entire discography (RCA, Columbia, Capitol, Reprise), as well as a huge collection of unauthorized releases, and over 1,000 live recordings. Pleasure meeting another Sinatra PERSON!
Great work as always! Excellent taste. I agree. This album is sublime. If you like sublime get the Lena Horne 'A New Album'. Orchestra, solo harp and solo saxophone, Fender Rhodes and incredible arrangements so beautifully recorded. ONLY on vinyl of course...
There are so many albums missing there: Only the lonely, Nobody cares, Where are you? Spetember of my years. My "in the wee small hours..." is an original American copy from 55-56 - W 581.
September Of My Years deserves a top 5, devastating. Missing something from his Tommy Dorsey days when his voice was real smooth real silky boy ;] and haunting.
What about the concert album “Sinatra. The Main Event.” Recorded after the 1974 Madison Square Garden concert when he came out of retirement for the 1st time. And the album “Sinatra Trilogy, Past, Present, Future.”
I would like to second John Kritikos: as good as IN THE WEE SMALL HOURS is, FRANK SINATRA SINGS FOR ONLY THE LONELY is similar - wallowing in self-pity - but even greater
@@top5records796 I assumed you must not be familiar with ONLY THE LONELY, or you would certainly prefer it. Since you know both records and prefer WEE, I can only say it takes all kinds to fill the freeways! LOL. I subscribed anyway and look forward to future entries
Wee is for a bad night. You play Only the Lonely on New Years’ Eve to commemorate a bad year . Don’t even want to go through the pain of hoping things will get better.
In my opinion SINATRA AT THE SANDS is the best live LP he ever released, true SINATRA on stage his voice is perfect his jokes n his storys, can't help but keep listening as often as I can 🎉😂😂❤
YES YES YES on Watertown, thanks for mentioning it, a gem. I will disagree with you on the Sands album, it's good, but not among my favorites. How about his Come Fly With Me concept album?
Good for you for selecting Watertown at number 2. It is an INCREDIBLE album. Incredible.
Thank you!
One of the more underrated albums by Sinatra is "No One Cares" imo.
Agreed
@@scealtv1347 ironic, isn't it?
Such an underrated album, very intimate and expressive.
Why Try to Change Me Now, Cottage for Sale, Stormy Weather….all iconic
Amazing strings ;]
So glad you selected Sinatra’s album with Jobim. I’ve loved it for decades.
It’s a masterpiece!

My # 1 Sinatra was his personal favorite “Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely..”….Fine choices by you. Good job…
The cover of In the Wee Small Hours is absolutely fantastic. I had never seen it before.
Beautiful cover indeed! I just did a video on In The Wee Small Hours alone!

My favorites so far are Where Are You?, Wee Small Hours, Nice N' Easy and Close to You. All I find very moving and incredible.

This was the video made for us. I love it. 🥃
Good to hear that!
Cheers 🥃
You forgot Only the Lonely and September of my years.
Yeah, can’t imagine leaving “Angel Eyes” off the list. Prolly greatest torch song ever.
Sinatra felt his best work was with Riddle when they collaborated on Only The Lonely.
Also an amazing album!

Lovely album to listen to with a glass of whiskey after the clock has turned 00:00.
And it's perfect for sleeping because it's nothing but ballads and doesn't have anything with a club beat, right?
When Sinatra was under Harry James and Tommy Dorsey is some of my favorite singing ever

Point of no return also.....
It's probably strange, but I don't like "In The Wee Small Hours" and I think it's overrated.
