Great video. Excellent spot-on Analysis on the current mower and trimmer market. I have seen advertised non working craftsman gas self -propelled now selling from $30-$100! Yikes! I also think its that people are learning to fix equipment and now theres more side hustler mechanic competition, (thanks to great how to videos channels like yours, steve small engine saloon, chicanic, mower medic1, Taryl fixes all...). On another note. I was able to make small 2cycle carburetor check valve disc inserts using a harbor freight leather hole punch set and a new piece of rubber metering diaphragm. This saves big money on echo, stihl , ryobi etc. carburetors that use the metal check valve with the rubber disc insert. I hope you make a video on this someday as it is not so common in small engine knowledge circles.

Five years ago we bought a brand new (at the time) RWD toro recycler personal pace 22" that came with the bag and side discharge chute for around $150-200. It has the ohv Briggs engine but it has always started up on the first pull since the day we bought it.
Apparently it is the last generation recycler with the side discharge as the new models that replaced it do not have a built-in side discharge in the deck. You have to get a adapter that fits where the bag goes and you have to register the mower to receive it.
On top of that, the engine displacement is smaller at 150cc compared to 163cc on ours. The price for a new model is easily north of $300 and you get fewer features!
I guess ours has gone up in value now that toro has done away with the side discharge and the older 163cc ohv engine!

I cant speak for used but l know new echo equipment has gone up. My powerhead for my kombi trimmer msrp was $320 and now its $360. I tend to buy comercial equipment and use good gas and oil so my equipment can last as long as possible. So l will happily pay a premium for Amsoil products if my equipment runs longer and better. And I feel it's better for the environment not to have perfectly fixable and usable equipment cluttering up landfills instead of using gas trimmers. To those who want to help the environment... if that's what you really want to do, buy a manual reel mower. That uses the least amount of resources in manufacturing and in use. No lithium mined with slave labor in 3rd world countries. No batteries to replace every 3 yrs. Yes it takes more effort. You ARE serious about helping the environment, right? What's a bit more effort in light of such a worthy goal?
Also, get a corded electric trimmer. If you have a need to do trimming beyond the reach of an extension cord, downsize! You have too much property.
Or... realize that you've been sold on a faulty idea, and go buy some gas powered equipment. Oh, yeah, and maintain it.
Equipment prices... The closest equivalent to my Toro Recycler is selling for about 2X what I paid for it 12 yrs ago. Overall, that's probably not too bad, but like you, I think most of that cost increase has come recently.

The thing capitalists LOVE about inflation is the opportunity for them to just _jack prices up arbitrarily_ and explain it away with "bUt EvErYtHiNg CoStS mOrE nOw!!!".
(Meanwhile, if us workers try doing that with our wages the cops get called to break the strike up...)
    ----
On the price difference: My guess is that it's due to the world's industrial sector mostly being geared towards electronics. In an industy where voltage regulators are sold for FRACTIONS of a penny, you can bet your ASS the lithium battery company will get hundreds of really angry phone calls if they try jacking the price up too much.
With internal combustion engines being less in demand, those manufacturers can get away with increasing their costs more.
Oh, and for those of you who comment "thats why we need more competition!" do remember this: companies will (and do!) collaborate with their competitors for all their benefit.
You know about cartels? Yeah, that right there is collaboration!
