9:43 - Linus showing genuine excitement about how deep the screwdriver situation goes is just so cute and just full of good vibes. It was awesome to see!
Can I just say, Nicole seems to be one of the most wholesome and chill/laid back people out of the team and this was one of the most enjoyable videos from the Intel extreme tech upgrade series
Definetely more of a in front of camera person than she herself seems to think. But, you know, you do you Nicole. It's fine if she doesn't want to go in front of the camera.
_"I wanted to upgrade the graphics card in a year or 2, and then a year or 2 came and.. aauugh"_ This pretty much sums up the entire GPU situation for the last year or so.
I’m just thankful that I’ve got a 1080. Was wanting to upgrade this year but uuuuhhhhhh I don’t think that’s gonna happen lol. New games on a 1440p ultrawide are pretty brutal even for a 1080
Nicole seems like a delightful human. This was such a peaceful and relaxing watch compared to the other Intel Tech Upgraded. Not that I don't also love all of the other more eccentric LMG personalities (Taran is probably the closest thing I have to a spirit animal), but this was just a nice cooled down pace. Also, that Gundam edition monitor is beautiful.
This video is a perfect example of how Linus and his people are far more than just people who work together, they are all great friends who work together and have fun doing it. What more can you ask for than that, especially at a job like this!
"Hotkeys" "Well, nobody said anything after I took it." :) I like her. She's naturally entertaining without even trying. Get Nicole on camera more often!
Linus : "Couldn't help noticing yet another my team went with a 850W psu for a 3080" *Me having that exact same psu with a 3090* : Yeah... how stupid of them 😳
Lol, I'm upgrading my PC right now. Was planning 13600k and 7800xt when it released, but got an amazing deal on a 6900xt. I'll be praying for my poor EVGA 850w when putting it together in a week or so.
@@madebyrens I believe that's what the manufacturer recommends. Or at least that's what they recommend for my 6900xt which I assume is similar. However 1 week in and my psu hasn't exploded and it's overclocked so it's probably fiiine lol
I like how when she says "should I be ready to catch", Linus scoffs and says "rude!" but then he nearly drops highly expensive hardware *at least* 3 times throughout the video
"When I built this, I thought: "Maybe in a year or two I'll upgrade the graphics card". Then a year or two came and..." Yeah. Me too, Nicole... Me too...
mines even worse, i built my computer right as the pandemic hit but didnt get a card because i was trying to save some money for the next gen of cards.....and that didnt happen so im stuck with a 1060 3g but im hoping im able to get lucky and get a 3050 on the 27th
@@IronIsKing that my guy is a total lie, 1,300 dollars is expensive, I only saw a single seller selling it for less than a 1,000. Best chance for getting anything new at a decent price is to find it in stock in store somewhere (unlikely, was at a Micro center the other day and the only Nvidia GPUs they had were MSI 1050 Ti's, though they did have quite a few in stock 6000 series AMD GPUs, and a single 6900xt ) or an older card off the used market that is still capable (GTX 1080, 1080 Ti, 1070, 980 Ti, R9 390 Fury to name a few that are pretty decent for the price on ebay ) but with those there come other risks. That was the path I was going to take while making my new build but we got super lucky and found an RX 6600 non-xt for msrp. Also having the R9 390 in the used list might be a bit controversial but you have to remember that while it's actual GPU performs like a 1070 or 1060 most of the time you can't forget the thing has a whole 8GB GDDR5, at least if you look for that version, although if I was looking for a card I'd still go for a 1070.
i really like how chill and respectful linus is to nicole compared to his usual IETU video demeanor where he'll fully dig through an employee's home with no hesitation
"You haven't even been with us that long " Nicole: *has the audacity to Abscond with an actual fridge and then not even return it when it's not optimal.*
Linus’ statement of, “I actually don’t have to do pretty much anything today.” & Nicole’s response of “Oop. Okay.” was priceless!! Love these Extreme Tech series. This one is probably my favorite.
I'm beginning to think the whole purpose of these upgrades is to give Linus a chance to see what everyone has stolen from the office. And I love how after calling them out he seemingly lets them keep it. Maybe getting to steal from the office is a LMG employment benefit, if so I should totally apply. Also screwdriver hammer on LTT Store when?
@@xxJOKeR75xx Yeah it makes sense that if you are working from home due to Covid you get to take stuff like headphones and whatnot from the company to your home office. And the fridge was probably salvaged from the dumpster.
As someone working in IT: You can steal SO. MUCH. STUFF. Well it's stuff that gets written off because it's more than three years old, but a barely used 5000$ UPS ist still good as new after a 300$ battery swap, so yeah, we take a lot of stuff home.
Even funnier, the "why would you?!" discussion. I can't say I never did it. I used to have a mini fridge on. It was noisy. It ended up being a stand for a CRT TV and storage.
As an Australian, we will can anyone the C word regardless of gender. We usually don’t mean it. *censored cause it’s a family channel, gotta respect the canucks
I appreciate how she knew everything about what she chose. Quality choices, and good aesthetic. You can see her on it, and ready for the next steps while Linus has to explain it for the audience.
As a person who lives in Vancouver, I have no clue how she was able to get some of the stuff she did. The GPU was company bought, I get it but that Gundam monitor is near impossible to find especially in December
I get that they have a system for taking stuff that's not needed around the office but the continuous joke of everyone "stealing" from the office and Linus caring less that they're doing it but always being surprised by *how much* is so funny to me "how did you abscond with a FRIDGE" absolutely killed me
Love the choice of mounting dream for the tv. They are such perfect mounts. I know out of everything it's weird to point out, but they really are great.
Isn’t Nicole one of the editors? If so, I don’t blame her for being nervous on camera. Speaking as a musical theatre actor (it was my minor in college), I’ve seen quite a few people be just as nervous for their first time on stage. All that considered, Nicole was great.
She does a great job, but Linus is also really good at engaging with people he's with on camera which probably helps a lot because it keeps the conversation going and probably helps keep her mind off the fact that they're doing this on camera because she does seem to be a really nervous. Always interesting seeing the behind the scenes guys at LMG take a turn being in front of the cameras.
I think if they keep everything that has been sent to them. it would be much more expensive to keep them and rent a warehouse if they are not going to use them ever again
I mean, its not like he doesn't do it too. They get so much sent to them and its part of the deal when the people that work there are actually enthusiasts.
@@hackerdev1L Yeah, With a few exceptions basically anything they have over a couple years old is never gonna see the light of day again so it walking off is really just saving time on inventory/reorg week.
This was actually incredibly well thought out, case incompatibility aside. There's plenty of sense made with the choice of upgrades, but also some personal flair like the white-on-black theme and the Gundam monitor.
Having recently been looking for white monitors for my fiance, that Gundam monitor is the only high quality white one out there. Wound up going with a Titan Army 32" curved one (rejected Samsung VA panels) for her since we weren't wanting to go that extreme currently and it works well, there's just not much variety in terms of white monitors, especially in my country.
@@ultrarandom This. Yeah the Gundam-theme is kinda more expensive than the regular one.... but the color they come from are not exactly color you can find normally so if you actually want the color, its actually pretty decent choice compared to paying someone to do automotive paint job or something. Its still more expensive, but its not that overly expensive for me.
idk why, but i actually love this setup more than anyone else you guys have done. Don't get me wrong, the other ones were nuts. But hers just felt like it was an actual setup that was reasonable and just felt cozy.
It is my personal favourite so far too. I think Nicole's personality helps a lot as well. Her demeanour is very casual and understated like Anthony's, but she's more of a casual tech enthusiast, so her choices and the way she handles herself in the video ends up hitting a lot more home in this setting.
My god Linus you folks have an amazing knack for hiring people. Everyones an interesting character and all the kind of people you'd like to have around.
this tech upgrade series is just an excuse to go through everyone's houses and keep tally on everything they've stolen and how much of a thief they are.
apparently it was all pretense. once he started digging, he didn't care much whose room it was. he picked up her nail clipper with the awesome backstory like it was his bud's.
I’ve watched Linus and the many different people he has employed over the years, and I have to say, Linus, you’re truly an awesome, fun and caring person. The people around you, like yourself, emit such a bright and positive light. Linus Tech Tips is a go to channel every morning while having coffee, or when I want to see an honest review and breakdown of a product, or need the technical information of something I’ve purchased or am looking to purchase. Linus has taught so many people over the years with his videos. To be able to absorb some of his knowledge and expertise for a day would be an honor and would be so humbling. Linus and team, if you see this, know you’re truly appreciated by many. Your videos and product are relevant in so many countries and to so many people.
Back in college (2015 or so) I showed an LTT video to a friend because I loved it, it was funny and educational, etc... forgot what video it was. Anyway, he said, "this Linus guy is irritating". Yes, we are no longer friends lol. Which is fine, we just think differently at a fundamental level. He's too serious of an engineer and hates fun. His idea of a fun leisure time is watching Engineering or History documentaries and hates movies. I appreciate the entertainment value that LTT put into their videos to make tech far more personal and enjoyable to learn about.
Nicole is such a sweet person, i enjoy every single time when she is talking. you could feel her genuine soft personality just from listening her voice and seeing her reaction. What an amazing crew you have linus🐣
I'm gaming on a rtx 3090 @ 4k ultra, using a Corsair 750w power supply; never had issues and my system is packed! Loved the $800 monitor and Linus' reaction to it. 😅 Btw. Nicole is great fun and adorable! 👍
16:20 I remember when I built my first rig, the advice that Linus and other RUclipsrs would say is to not bother overspeccing your PSU. Now I'm sitting here with my original 1000w PSU and a 3080 Ti feeling real justified.
My 850W Seasonic Focus GX-850 Gold NEVER has given me problems even when running my 3080 Ti at max overclock and power limit increase while simultaneously running 100% CPU and 100% GPU stress tests. It all depends on the PSU's build quality.
lol when i built my 2xGTX570 rig 10 years ago and got a Corsair AX1200 PSU people said i've overspeced with my PSU, considering my PSU is almost 10 years old at this point and used to run 2x 1080Ti's and now runs a 3090 just fine just shows how spot on i was.
I had issues with my old 750W PSU and so replaced it with a 1200W with a Core i7 3770 and a GTX 970. When I bought it, the shop I bought it from looked at me like I was crazy, but now I'm running a Ryzen 5900X, 3070Ti, and a 2070Super (my old graphics card) to have USB-C video out. 1000W is easy if I put it all under load, so I'm laughing now. (Need to upgrade the UPS though, it's also 1200W, and it's running basically at capacity when I put it under load)
To be fair he gets a lot of that stuff either for free or close to it for testing purposes. Then once the videos are done the stuff just sits in the company store room
Linus isn't the office manager... The office manager would make those decisions. The company is a lot larger than we see on camera. So they most likely got permission from their manager, and they just play it up for the camera.
i love how linus does grunt work for his employees it really shows how his success hasn't gone to his head. also imagine being able to say i had a millionaire do my gaming setup *here's a video of him lying under my desk doing cable management*
Having used either laptops or corporate micro-desktops for 20 years, seeing how a new pc is built, with all that cable management and colour co-ordination is kind of cool.
I'm not gonna lie, I love these tech upgrades. The beauty of the staggered release and tech evolving is that there is always potential for more. It is such good quality content because it feels wholesome. You can feel the excitement of the staff and the viewer gets a peak behind the curtain at whats going on in their everyday lives. Great job LTT and thank you Intel!
