Japanese see marriages and relationships as an economical contract. The love aspect is not there for them.
Love which is normally an abstract concept, is made commercially and tangible in Japan in the form of superficial ads, cliché valentine tropes and things they "think" is love.
So for Western men and women, I advise not to seek a relationship in Japan or Asia.
Culture and Western philosophy vs Eastern philosophy is too important of a factor to ignore. You will end up miserable down the line, wondering why your Japanese wife/husband never speaks up their mind and lets their frustration get to boiling point(scary in Japan).
It's like talking to a wall instead of your partner. The Japanese/Asian man are taught to see women as objects of sexual desire and housewives.
They are emotionally detached from the social aspect of adulthood, which makes raising potential kids very difficult for them.
Asian men also often suffer from an identity crisis, getting angry/frustrated/confused with themselves. Thats why you see Asian men adopting other peoples culture in the craziest way.
In conclusion, take culture and history into consideration before you decide to pursue your yellow fever/fetish

I remember going to Connor's very first AX meetup, 5 or 6 years ago. There were like, 10 of us, outside of the building by the bushes, standing around awkwardly with him. I took some vids with him and got a plush ciel signed. I check in a few years later, and he has his own panel in a main hall of AX, and someone I met at that first meetup texts me out of the blue about how she's so proud of him, but she's sad she can't actually talk to him at the cons anymore. Still. We were both here then, and we are both here now, and we couldn't be more excited for Connor.
(Also, he signed the plush right across its face for some reason? And I'll never get over that. It was funny, but I remember being kind of baffled, cus it was one of my only plushes and a gift from my best friend, and he wasn't that big a creator then, and hed just put lettering across poor ciels face. I still have it tho, and I guess he's made up for it by making his signature that much cooler to have.)

Yes 100% I lived in Japan 13-24 and I'm hafu + slim thick (french mixed w green eyes). Japanese ppl tend to love hafus but I don't act like a stereotypical Japanese woman and I've had ppl admit to dating me because they wanted to "try out" a hafu or a girl with curves but they can't handle me long term because Im not shy, demure, reserved, super girly, and quiet.
It felt like I was always the problem, but it was ppl who thought i was hot but not worthy of a serious relationship for super shallow or dumb reasons like dyed hair, tattoos, being loud, egirl/vamp fashion and Otaku.
My husband is Japanese Mexican and it's nice to be with someone who understands my mindset being Hafu and encourages me being me even if that's a loud nerdy otaku who cusses a lot.

Dating, like anything, is something that must be practiced in order for one to get good at it. There's no exact technique, but a surefire way to at least break the ice is as follows"
    1. Learn how to make direct eye contact comfortably
    2. Have a good, firm handshake
    3. Shake the other's hand at least 2 times without letting go but without being too tight
    4. Take the person whose arm you are shaking over your shoulder
    5. Flip the other person over your shoulder
    6. Stand on top of their body with your arms stretched out in victory
    7. Reclaim your title as champion of the Thunder Dome

I heard Norwegians are depressed people, because it gets dark and gloomy very early there. With all the snow and lack of sunshine, I can understand. Instead of rioting and destroying stuff for every little thing, we have civilized people who knows better. The police is more educated than what I have seen from the ones in America, we DON'T need guns there are strict laws and a long process just to even get a gun, and if u misuse it even once you will never hold one ever again, honestly, from every video and news reports, and everything i have heard and seen makes me HOPE that we never learn anything from America, and it makes me never wanna go there because just the thought of going there makes me scared for my life. I hope you'll be able to make many many more Japanese friends, and many good friends overall regardless of nationality. Much respect for all that biking, keep the good job up and continue to enjoy and do what you love doing 💫

I cannot agree more. He is the kind of person I aspire to be. He is very confident, very funny and entertaining; even chaotic sometimes (all on purpose), but clearly knows exactly what he's doing to draw in and hook an audience. Yet all without acting like 'the big shot'.
He is very humble about his own stuff, very chill and down to earth, but at the same time he is a chad friend and a big support (or even just an inspiration) to so many others. He very clearly respects a lot of other creators, big and small, each in all kinds of different 'genres' if you will. And befriends almost all of them in his interactions with them. And that is what I like about him most. He seems to care more about how they are doing then himself. And I admire that aspect.

About the question on how to break the ice with new people:
One thing I notice Connor does when meeting new people is immediately asking them about how they want to be addressed (gamer tag, real name, nickname, whatever). And I think that's a great way to make someone feel more comfortable by showing that you're genuinely interested in talking to them. It also helps to get over that awkward moment when you first meet strangers and don't know what to talk about. Maybe something in their name comes from an activity that's interesting to talk about.
Obviously this works a lot better for online connections but I'm sure something along those lines can work offline as well.

This might be a weird take, but I honestly feel like the cycling video should go up here, on the main channel when it's finally ready. Like, it's such a MASSIVE project that it feels like the same amount of effort of a main channel video, plus the style itself fits the "out and about in japan" kind of format. Just doesn't really feel like 2nd channel material at that point.
Plus, I think it could be a really great way to try and unite the two worlds Connor finds himself between; using high level twitch content for his main channel fan base. idk, food for thought.

Then I watch journey across Japan where I saw Joey for the first time and Emma and Sharla and Natsuki. Then I saw Aki in one of Joey's vids and then eventually I can across trash taste where I learned about Garnt. It's crazy how many people I've found in literally just over a year through their collaborations. And I genuinely like all of them and I am subscribed to all of them including Ryotaro.
In conclusion, take culture and history into consideration before you decide to pursue your yellow fever/fetish

as someone who's lived and dated in both the uk and japan, i'd say this: in japan, it's easier, but it's worse. it's true that you're automatically more desirable than at home basically just for being gaijin, so a higher % of dating age people will be interested in you and you're statistically less likely to get shut down if you ask someone out.
however, the dating itself is a lot more complex and annoying in japan. for one, the language barrier makes it harder to communicate, and in some cases harder to be charming. if you're more socially awkward then this might actually suit you, since it does kind of simplify everything, but i personally found that i couldn't express myself how i wanted a lot of the time. the other thing is that the rules and expectations of dating here are different and, in my experience, quite restrictive.
tl;dr it's harder to succeed back home, but more enjoyable when you do

The only issue with dating in Japan is the language barrier. You'll find a lovely person but she may have poor/average level English making communicating challenging and relating to her more difficult early days. To overcome you'd have to find a middle ground and both learn each others language. I'm proficient in both English & Japanese and yes I did kinda do that for love lol.

    • @ForumcoldiArchon

Additionally to the barrier there is the difference in relationships as a whole. A japanese woman will want to introduce you to her family and speak of marriage pretty quickly as they are expected to marry rather early in life.
