- Red whiskered bulbul
The red-whiskered bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus), or crested bulbul, is a passerine bird native to Asia. It is a member of the bulbul family. It is a resident frugivore found mainly in tropical Asia. It has been introduced in many tropical areas of the world where populations have established themselves. It has a loud three or four note call, feeds on fruits and small insects and perches conspicuously on trees. It is common in hill forests and urban gardens.
Their call is referred to as ginger beer call, and they are quite talkative ones. In hillstations because of the abundance of lantana, the population of these birds are thriving.

Thats nice. These birds laid 4 eggs in my garden they were coming regularly from 1 month. by mistake i touched the birs n it dint come from 2 two days.. any idea why n what about eggs now are they gonna abandon them??

They won't abandon them, mine came back after a day. Just don't be anywhere near the nest when they come back else they will go away again.@@asmafirdose4973
I just love them, we feed them seeds and some leaves, they liked it very much

I live in Southern California in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. Several years ago, a pair of bulbuls decided to winter in my backyard everey year. I just heard them again today, and was so happy that they are back!

This bird has built a nest in my house backyard..... I had hard time finding the name of this bird by describing how it looks.... I put some grains but it didn't even touch it... Now I'm researching what I can feed it🦜🕊️....

They aren't native to Southern California, but I've started seeing them in my camphor & rubber trees! I also have lots of lantana in my yard. I think they eat the lantana berries. I'm playing this call to see if they'll show up. Don't see them today. We're having a heat wave; perhaps they're resting avoiding the heat. Thanks for sharing this!

The bulbuls here (Chiangmai, N Thailand) have much sweeter song, so much so that I feel it's a great privilege to listen to it, often from dawn onwards.

These guys also love bathing, I put a cup of water for the birds to drink and these guys would come and shower in it all the time lol

Even though they are native here, their population is increasing rapidly which leads to the reduction of other bird numbers. They are very adaptable, so this guy is not a favorite among birders even with all the beautiful hairstyle :D
