i would be happy to pay more for an instrument where every function has a discrete button instead of the modern phenomenon of everything being abbreviated and accessible only through complicated double presses.
To me this is the best 303 clone just because I can control cutoff and peak over midi cc. It make the synth to live and be impressive and expressive. It doesn’t take much space on the surface too unlike all other clones which are enormous size for single voice synth... Even that said I like the sound of Korgs own volca bass more because of 3 osc affair but it does not have midi controllable cut off and peak. Come on Korg, wtp?
Hello, please tell me who has this synthesizer. Do all owners have the volume through the headphone output quieter than in other volcas at the minimum position of the drive control? My volume is normal only when this knob is turned to medium and maximum values. Thanks.
i might be sold on the fact it's easier to program than a td3, it has motion control unlike other bass synths of this price bracket, it has a sub osc. It would have been nice if the drive circuit was nastier. it's not very aggressive. a proper distortion would be good.
@@rorz999 I have one sitting beside me :) bought it a few weeks ago and it's AWESOME. With the ease of note input and rand funtions this is the best analog acid machine on the modern market hands down. And yes I ran it through the tube scream on my mc707 and there you go.. Full analog 303 acid which can't be distinguished from the real 303 I don't care what any purist says I know the authentic sound of analog acid
As Charizma mentioned, these are not real tubes. Its some weird concoction that Korg came up with that has tube-like properties. The Vox amps and the Tubescreamer definitely came before the NuBass. I stand corrected.
What disturbs me when watching videos of these gadgets is the fact that only very rarely complete songs are arranged with them, but there is only knob fiddling being shown or how weird you can distort some sounds in a way you would never find it in a certain music style - except hardcore tekkkno or dubstep.
There is sustain mode which helps a bit. If you chain the slides it's just the same as holding your finger on a key, it still fades away. There is no infinite sustain. It's really an acid bass line synth which it's awesome for
The original Volca Bass is much more worth it in my opinion. they're super cheap used and make some FAT sounds, People mod them out. put them together on racks, and you can even by one of those cheap tube preamps to add some natural tubiness. This one isn't terrible though. but it is basically the volca bass with less oscillators and less control over them, with added saturation.
Nice apparatus, sound is fat and rich, but it seems like not doing much soundwise. The original Volca Bass is much more versatile, except for motion recording. If only Nubass had adjustable pitch on sub at least, or additional VTO, just a suboctave is really boring.
They added motion sequencing, accents, transpose, drive, sub osc. I'm happy I bought the Bass, but it's a good tradeoff for those looking for a small acid machine I think.
That's also my sensation. For the price,I would prefer to buy a synth from Behringer. The sound doesn"t please to me at all. And what is this square sound that doesn"t sound square at all. For me,that's not the best of the small cheap Machines from Korg. I saw it costs 185€ Too expensive for what it is. And only 16 steps sequencer as all the machines propose 64 minimum today. The BEHRINGER TD3 sounds much better for a lower price.
I have a Crave and it is awesome. Pair it with a behringer fx600 and the sound is amazing. You can have delays through the pedal and pitchshift to 5ths. Such a great combo for not much money.
This one sound as shit the last one Korg put out dont see big diference between this one and the normal volca bass ...best volca out there and most useful still the Volca FM in my humble opinion
Eh, wouldn't really consider it a flop. It's probably the most niche of the volca line, and that filter should open up more, but it's fine for what it is: an acid bass machine. Seems like it has a lot more sonic capability than the Behringer TD-3, and a hell of a lot easier to sequence. If I could do it again (or if I could sell my TD-3 for a decent price) I'd probably just get this instead.
why can't these product just be their own things rather than you thinking it's supposed to replace something specific? If you want a 303 then buy that?
@@xc3n I think that's exactly what they were aiming for. They already know so many have tried (And failed) at making the perfect 303 "clone" so they just decided to make something that is acid as the soul and see how people like it. I'm totally A-OK with that!
@@Philtho I love my Bass, but the styling is definitely at least inspired by the 303 and it did give the impression it was trying to be a 303. Maybe the (exterior) design department didn't realize they were making a 303 alternative instead of a 303 clone.
This gentleman has such a nice voice. Thanks for the review. So calming to listen to your voice.

Not exactly modern. Synth companies have been doing this since the 80s
It's called menu diving and yeah it's a huge pain in the ass.
averagepainter then go buy a more expensive synth assbrain, they exist.
Get Microbrute or other similar fully analog instrument - not even single display! Had one. Good synth, now very cheap.
you can buy a prophet6 ...
The blue on this synth looks so sleek
nice review - to me the nubass is a lot easier to use than the 303 and has a great sound of its own
Being able to change the sequence +slides and accents in real time is awesome.
Thank you very much for the review. I'm looking forward to getting started with mine this weekend. Cheers.
bro please, one question.... which is the program you use to see the sound wave? and this programs can read in wich frequency it's a note? good video!
excelente video saludos desde Baja California
Sounds good but the lack of any controls ruins it.
Huh? All the controls you need are on it lol
got mine today. I have to go to bed, but literally can't stop =/
Synth noodling can be addictive
Same
Dude I've had the batteries run out twice and that's just playing with it standalone through its speaker it's that much fun
great section at 21 min. motion record is awesome
By far the most useful video I've seen. Thank you!
Your video style is so cool, congrats my friend! :-)
Great review. Very helpful. What tool are you using for your waveform overlay?
Looks like he just overplayed abletons spectrum plug-in
I was about to ask the same question, yes looks like they are the ableton waveform filtered with some chroma key.

Weird that your Amp decay is so short. I feel like the Amp decay on mine is at least twice as long or longer.
You mean filter decay?
Awesome Review! Straight to it.

I want to see a volca nubears and nufm.

It's not the first to use vacuum tubes, the Korg EMX-1 and ESX-1 used them as filters. Nice review BTW.
don't forget the Triton Extreme and the King Korg
First to nutubes, also found in the new Vox line of amps and Ibanez tubescreamer

What program do you use to add those waveforms? Thanks

What's with the disco bass sounds?! How old is this video?
thanks - cool video! 👍😎
So muffled sounding. Even with the filter completely open
It doesnt cut through. i think they messed up with this. I mean even the name nubass you'd expect something contemporary or a few unusual waveforms
Sits fine in the mix, it’s not muddy at all, but warm and gritty if need be
Sold - on your channel, as well on the nubass - it sounds like classic tb-303 to me...
Rude lil box. Shame about no amp envelope tho. Does the orig 303 do amp envelopes?
Like, it should at least have ties
I can’t wait for the Monologue 2 to come out with Nu Bass
Mine arrives in few days after all the shortage it seems. What a great overview :) ...and helpful
@Ganji,,,so this is on sale now then??is it available in the UK?
Nice locking unit
So... does'nt sound like it has got square wave OSC. Is that a tube problem? Or crap OSC?
Weird, eh?
Will a chain of slides increase the amp decay? or will it still die out fast? (haven't watched full video yet so maybe answered)
There is sustain mode which helps a bit. If you chain the slides it's just the same as holding your finger on a key, it still fades away. There is no infinite sustain. It's really an acid bass line synth which it's awesome for
@@RUclipsSupportTeams A blast from the past! Thanks, now, one year later i got my question answered haha :D

@@stormevans6897 Thanks. I have a Volca Beats and like it too. Have heard good things about the Bass. Haven't tried the non-analog volcas yet.

Understand it a "bass" synth, but wow, that filter really sounds crippled. Damn thing can't even open up past half way.
Dude you ain't fuckin woke
@@willdahbe It's like the sound is in the next room
am i drunken, or the video is shaking all the time? 🤢
The sub-bass is shaking the room :-)
Drunken🤣
So you take the Volca bass, remove some of it’s features & add a glowing light & raise the price... How is this better again? Sorry, I don’t follow.
They added motion sequencing, accents, transpose, drive, sub osc. I'm happy I bought the Bass, but it's a good tradeoff for those looking for a small acid machine I think.
Yeah I own the bass but would happily get this also. The sun osc and drive make it sound much beefier and the filter sounds niver to me.
id rather have the behringer crave i think...
I thought the same, yet my Crave is sat in it's box currently up for sale.
Nice review, but that’s not even close to TB 303
It sounds awful. A wet fart through a big sky sounds better.

Not very excited about this volca.. I think are way cooler the other ones
two waveforms almost the same...

The first RUclips Synthesizer.

yo this thing sucks
Was the world waiting on the first flop in a Volca range? Well... there you go!
The whole range is shit IMO. Volca FM was the only interesting one, but they ruined it with 3-note polyphony... useless.

Korg tries to emulate TB-303:
Attempt #1 Volca Bass - FAILED
Attempt #2 Volca NuBass - FAILED AGAIN
Good luck for attempt #3

So does the 303.
