As a Flamenco guitarist I have to give this guy an A+!!!! How are there unlikes here? Doesn’t he have enemies or something because that was brilliant!! Bravo!!!
The 28 dislike are people that have never touched a “Contrabajo” and do not know how difficult and hard is to play this beautiful and to my ears the most complete instrument!
The dislikes on the youtube video might have come from him breathing into the microphones. It's easy to remove the noise in post production but I suppose they're lazy or think it gives a nice old man taste to the performance.
+derp herp his music breaths and so does he. This is common on acoustic recordings and I think it makes an intimate recording even better. PS. listen to some Keith Jarrett, then you know what I mean
I don't think I've ever seen anyone play an upright bass this quickly. Even if you took the flamenco strumming aside, just his ordinary notes are so quick.
Amazing virtuoso indeed. As far as speed I would also mention the 1974 upright solo from Stanley Clarke second album Spanish Phases for Strings and Bass, that solo change my life as a teenager in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.
Amazing!! What a pleasure to listen to. I play the Double Bass, no where near to his level. His intonation was spot on even on the 16th notes, and that on the higher register of the instrument. That is really hard to pull off on such a difficult piece. Bravo!
How did the crowd not leap from their chairs at the end to applaud? That performance is honestly insane. I would love to learn and master that style of plucking. Truly groundbreaking.
I've been a professional bass player since 1974 and I am ready to sell my basses after watching this amazing performance. What kind of strings do you use? Saludos, de Buenos aires, Argentina

the accuracy! he has an aimbot!!!
Words are not enough. This is every kind of amazing. Even the words ,virtuoso and maestro do not do this man justice. thank you so much for posting.
I keep coming back to this. So, so amazing. What an awesome musician.
this is the first time in my life, listening to Flamenco played on Bass, and I have listened to Flamenco for 20 yrs! Damn good stuff!
One, if not the best in intonation, expression, dynamic and tone, ever
that was truly incredible. i can't imagine why anyone would dislike such talent

His bass sound so bright and his playing his clean and powerfull too. Thanks for the discovery.
It takes some absurdly amazing knowledge and talent to perform such a style on such an instrument. Bravo!

Utterly breathtaking. He's an extraordinary musician.
Renaud that was the best performance I've ever seen or heard on a double bass ,
Thank you very much ,,,
What an amazing instrument.
Thanks to Renaud I switched my low c for a high c. In my opinion, the best and most interesting upright bassist of the moment.
Thank you Renaud. Utter mastery. Hauntingly full of soul. Please come back to England for more live performance
Nothing short of incredible. Creative and technically brilliant.

Fantastic performance! Who is your base luthier and who sets up your instrument, could you please write me back and let me know. Jim
Una obra de arte!
Amazing. I wonder how long he's been playing for?
+Bigb671 he started playing piano at 5 and upright at the age of 16. He's 53 now (born on christmas 1962) :)

Great Musician--Great Music
Extraordinary
I've been a professional bass player since 1974 and I am ready to sell my basses after watching this amazing performance.
What kind of strings do you use?
Saludos, de Buenos aires, Argentina
He is known to use Spirocore Weichs. Even though they're known as more of a pizz string he has shown that it can be an excellent arco string as well.
What a groove!! Awe-inspiring!! :-D
I've never seen a 5 string double bass before, or even an a double bass being played like this in general. It's like flamenco on the upright.
Bravo.
