Several months ago I went to my local dealer to buy/order a bike. They offered me a deal at almost $4k US over sticker. I told them I had an offer at MSRP with NO additional fees from another dealership about 2 hours away. If they would match the deal, I'd buy it from them instead. They "called my bluff" and told me to buy it at the other dealership.
    So I did.
Was very satisfying to ride the bike up to that dealership (the overpriced one) and show off the bike that I got for a price... and this is their words.... "Too good to be true".
They have also lost me for all of my service, all of my parts, everything. Not joining their HOG chapter, not buying clothes from them, nothing.

Same thing happened to me. I branched out about 200 miles from my house to find the bike I wanted. No dealer would even offer to work with me on the price and wanted me to finance through Eagle Financial. One dealer even laughed at me and gave me some BS about how bikes were "flying off of the floor." This was in May of 2020 during the height of covid. I walked into my local dealer and said to the GM, "Don't bullshit me, and I won't bullshit you." He found my bike in New Orleans, gave me 1k off, and even steered me towards a local C.U. where I got a great apr. I shook the man's hand and bought the bike. I added about $3600 in extras and gave him $2500 down on the spot. I emailed the dealer who laughed at me a pic of my new bike and what I paid. Funny, he never replied. My dealer has been great ever since.

Harley has done everything to not sell you a bike. A local dealership in PA cannot give you a price on a bike unless you are willing to sit their for hours on end. Then you will get some crazy price over sticker. Harley needs to shop their dealers to see the games that go on and address the issues. A lot of riders will not even look to buy a Harley because of these issues.

Some dealerships are a complete nightmare… three years ago I brought my bike (with very low mileage, almost brand new) to a dealership for a quick service. They ended up breaking my oil pan, welding and painting it!! They didn’t tell me a thing but I knew something was wrong with my bike. It was leaking, but I never imagined they could do something like that. I brought it over and over again because of the leaks. They acted as if I was the problem… I documented everything, so when I brought it to another dealership and they told me about my oil pan, I made that first dealership pay for the repairs. I’m the end everything got fixed, but I was so pissed because they lied and because they didn’t care about putting my life in danger.

After they checked the bike out the next person in the sales lineup said they would give me $1500. I laughed and walked out and put the bike up for private sale asking 5k. Sold it two days later for $4000. Went back to the dealership and continued my purchase. They ran my credit and got greedy when it returned at just over 800. The finance guy did the typical try to sell you a bunch more crap and mess with the points to increase their profits. I was fed up at that point and went to plan B. Which was pulling an envelope full of cash and buying the bike outright. They still got me paying a little over the MSRP but I kept the bleeding down to a minimum. Harley dealerships are the worst.

I went to trade in my old Harley (bought from that dealership) and buy a new one from a dealership last year. The manager valued my bike and a salesman set up the contract for the new bike with all the extras I wanted for an 'on the road' price. This was all put in a sales contract which I signed and then paid the deposit. Next week they wanted an extra administration fee that was "on all bikes - there's nothing we can do about it". Next they noticed that my trade in needed new tires so they wanted to deduct money from the trade in value, then it needed work as "the indicators and tail lights weren't working". Then they needed to add workshop hours to adding the parts to my new bike. I pointed out that we already had a contract and I expected them to honour it. I was told if I felt that way I could have my deposit back, so and thanked them, got my deposit back and went to another dealer who ran an honest shop. When I pick up my old bike from them, the indicators and tail light were working - I called the salesman to look and he just shrugged his shoulders.

I don’t care how nice and polite you’re or how much $$$ you are throwing at them they are rude and will refuse to do the basic things you ask for, even though they have your bike for 2 months over a turn signal switch. If you aren’t on their little crew of nut-riding friends, you’re a peasant to them and they make sure you feel that way even when trying to have a basic conversation with them. I feel your pain….

A few years back I came across a 79 XLH, low mileage and almost completely stock. I had a new one when I was young and I couldn't resist. You know, relive your youth thing. So I go to my local Harley dealership to pick up some fluids and plugs, I did basic maintenance on my first one and kind of enjoyed it. Plus now I could afford more Loctite and better torque wrenches. I handed my list to a young guy at the parts counter and told him to take his time because I wanted to look around. The last time I had been at a Harley dealership was 1982 and I wanted to see what had changed. Pretty much everything. Dealers back then were small, usually family owned. No wall of chrome or a clothing store. The old shops had character, this place had none of that but everyone was wearing the same style of shirt. When I went back to parts the young guy had everything but the plugs. It seemed there was one mechanic in there that had ever actually worked on an Ironhead and they were waiting for him to get back from lunch to suggest a plug. Harley wants visiting a dealership to be an experience but judging from the comments on videos like this one, probably not the experience these people are commenting on. I think Harley has forgotten where they came from and its hard to know where you are going when you can't remember where you've been.

They had it for a week including a weekend and when I went to pick it up the speedometer showed over 250 miles indicating that someone took it home over the weekend for a joyride . No explanations, apologies , compensation , nothing . They just didn't care. You should have named the dealer.

A Ducati dealer did a similar thing to me. We agreed on my trade price and new bike price. When I got my bike there, they told me it needed a new rear tire and tried to gauge me for that. I used to work for a dealership and know how much tires cost as well as how much they pay 15 y.o to change them. We agreed on cost price off the trade in value. It wasn't until I got home and checked the invoice that I realized they charged me full price for the tire. My fault for not checking it. This was my second bike from them so you'd think they would look after a return customer. The only other Ducati dealer in the area was a rude prick so I refused to go to them.

I haven’t had anything near the issues you have with a dealership but I can’t begin to tell you how disheartened I have become with HD. My first experience with HD was buying my first Harley from my local dealer 45 years ago. I was a snot nosed twenty year old who went in drooling over every bike on the floor. Figured out there was no way I could afford the Low Rider I was in love with so I went for a Sportster. I never talked to any of the sales people as they all sort of either were too busy to talk to me or blew me off. I can’t say I really blame them, as I didn’t really look like I could afford to buy a new bike. Not to say there were that many sales people. The dealership in those days was a small old school dealer. I went to my bank to talk financing and while I was there the bank guy called the dealer, and was asked asked who the salesman was I talked to. Well after saying I hadn’t been able to get a salesman to talk to me they put me on the phone. It was the owner I was talking to and he got me squared away on not the bike I was wanting (kick start), but another one identical to it with electric start. I later learned that he held a sales meeting and totally reamed the entire sales staff a new one over my not having been able to talk to anyone. I bought my bike and found myself on a first name basis with just about all the staff as well as the owner and his son (the head mechanic). I always got treated right by those people even after they were forced into building the NEW big fancy dealership that HD demanded all their dealers build. Quite a few years ago however that ownership passed from that family to another. No longer were the price tags placed on every bike telling you the exact price. Ask a salesman the price and get an answer like “Oh anywhere between 23 and 27 thousand.” So ok which is it for this bike right here? “Oh well it’s hard to say right off. Let’s go over to my desk and talk sales and we can work up a price for you.” Yeah no thanks. A lot of folks still in and out of there but I have long since lost my enthusiasm for the place and any loyalty I had has long since passed. Now yet another family has purchased the place and I was struck at the difference between my fist experience and the experience I had on my last visit. A salesman who was just as pushy as he could be from the moment I walked in the place trying to sell me a new bike. It was almost amusing. I’m still riding my 18 year old bike, the last one I bought from the original family and with what I have been seeing from my own experience and experiences of others like you here, I’ll keep on riding it for some time to come. Used bike prices are such that I wouldn’t consider a new bike anyway and I often wonder if I decided to go new, if I might just start at the Indian dealer. This isn’t your daddy’s or your granddaddy’s Harley Davidson anymore.

It seems that a lot of the family run operations are getting fewer and fewer as big companies buy them up. I had very few issues with dealers when they were smaller. Now the ones here all have big new buildings and with that came higher overhead and a loss of customer service. It has become more about the brand and the profit than the customer. I would not blame you for not wanting to buy new, or going to a different company altogether.

Sorry to hear that you went through that, I'm from Pennsylvania, U.S.A. and in 2021, right in the middle of the pandemic, I purchase a 2021 Road King Special. The bike had to be order and of course I have to put a deposit down too, sounds pretty much like your situation. However, in my case, my local Harley dealer did not increase the price after the MSRP and I did not turn in my trade in (2010 Road King Classic), until the new bike was in the dealer's possession. I respectfully say to everyone, that the moral of the story here is, "Never turn in your trade in before the new bike is in front of you". I do trust my local dealer, and I'm sure that there is maybe more details about your story, but even as much I trust my local dealer, I always keep in mind that their are in the business to make money.

The biggest problem we have is that this lack of customer service has become a contagious disease in the 21st century. Old fashion customer service by dealerships is a thing of the past, it seems employees are rewarded on how much 'short' term profit they make. This model/policy/disease is designed to boost the bottom line by not allowing 'customer loyalty' to be factored into the sales model for HD dealerships.

I will say this, Bike in shop 10 October, 2022 Under WARANTY Promised back November, etc. The Monday before Thanksgiving I was in the dealership where told my bike was being totaled. 2 hours later found out it was NOT my bike,. Then told it was 1000% covered and they would move me into another bike just as if it was 100% fixed (red flag #3 for the day) Then the sales manager tried to super lowball me because the engine was blown, yet sell me an older used bike with more likes and NOT an Ultra CVO for $30K, meaning I overpaid for replacement and gave them my Bike. Come to find out the dealership 1st contacted HD for warranty on 3 Feb 23, 4 MONTHS after the got my bike and kept promising completion nd tracking numbers (Which I have never gotten) Now, 11 May 2023, no bike, no tracking numbers, but they are trying to pressure me to "give" them the bike (they don't know when they parts will be there) and but a new one at over retail. OH, I forgot, HD told me I was no longer welcomed to call Corp. I am waiting on what my attorney does this coming week before uploading. As I told the dealership back in November "I want my bike fixed post haset and I will never see any of them again including their employees who migrate to another dealership. It doesn't end with just Harley dealerships. I've bought bikes from powersports dealerships, same thing. Once the salesman is done with you, he never looks back. There is a big miscommunication between sales, parts, and service. I've bought used bikes from a powersport dealership and when they called me to pick it up. They can't find the keys. My buddy had a similar issue with one of those places. He bought a used Harley, he wanted the apes replaced with more stock handle bars. It took them 5 weeks to change those and they couldn't find his keys. When he got the bike home, we had to re-solder all the extended wiring. bad connections. But we weren't going back there, ever. Word to the wise, don't ever, ever trade in your bike at a Harley dealership. They will rip you off royally. Sell it privately. I wouldn't even use Harleys financing. I'll buy parts from the HD dealership, that's about it. They don't touch my bike. There's plenty of smaller shops out there that don't try to bullshit you in parts you don't need replaced. Two seasons ago, I had my Night Train stored at the HD dealership for the winter months. They do their 30 point inspection. They told me, I need 600 dollars in parts and 2600 hundred in labor. I'm like; Don't touch it. When I got the bike back, I took their list to the place I go to. Turns out, I needed rotors and pads. It didn't cost me 3200. HD dealerships have always been known to be greasy. All the small mom and pop dealers are gone. Now its just big HD dealer chains. Their too big to care about their customers.

Running a dealership under the constraints imposed by a manufacturer is an art form that many dealer principals/owners either fail to grasp the concept of, or are simply incapable of.
The upsizing of motorcycle shops brought on by corporate mandates has sounded the death knell for small, eager to serve, family owned businesses where all employees involved rode motorcycles and understood motorcycle riders.
    HD values the
'customer journey' through the purchasing process, however, they themselves have created this monster that due to the amount of parties involved, breaks down when one variable
    is not in place.
With my 46th motorcycle, having ridden for 53 years, I miss the small dealerships where a tire change was done correctly in less than a hour without an appointment, and there were no pre-qualifying questions to determine a customer's worthiness.

They want to charge really High Interest Rates on their Loans, even if you have a Great Credit Score!!! I will never Buy another Harley, there are so many Better Built, Better Riding, Reliable Bikes out there, who needs a Harley. My experience with Harley-Davidson goes back to 1973. At that time I purchased an eight-year-old 65 Harley from a dealership in Syracuse New York. In time I came to realize the dealership had a reputation of being a total rip-off. To no one's surprise I had a very negative experience dealing with them and unfortunately that hasn't been the exception to the rule over the years I have had in all my service done by aftermarket small shops. Not all of those have been positive but I have been fortunate enough to find a few really competent service people. Dealerships don't work to keep customers. People do if you find a competent mechanic that is honest treat them with respect

I road it once and brought it back...needed clutch plate, basket, starter, new wiring harness, and several other things. In 90 days I had to bring it back 7 times for the same issues. My dealership went above and beyond to dial the bike in...didn't cost my a dime. The owner had the GM cut me a check for my troubles. The bike is now in my garage and runs like a top. Same experience when I helped a girlfriend buy a 2002 HD 1200XL Sportster. That year Harley offered various paint levels. We chose a custom painted gas tank with a production run of 1200 that added $1000 to the price. No problem. Also changed handle bars. Both tank and bars were thru the Harley parts catalog. Factory parts no aftermarket. Then thru the dealership we ordered chrome braided cables, clutch and throttle. Dealership ordered them from a national well known company you and I can order from. I figured let the dealership do everything seeing that the bike is shipped in a crate and requires assembly. Brake lines were also ordered. Kool no problem we agreed on a price and given a date to take possession of this bike. This was after the dealership had talked with the sales rep from Harley. My girl was pre-approved for a loan from her bank. We exceeded that by a tad. We paid $2000 down, the following Friday went back paid another $1000 and in 2 weeks were to take delivery of the bike along with all the take off parts. 2 weeks later was told cables hadn't arrived, be here in 3 days. Ok. Following Friday dealership was still waiting on cables. I became a little warm and loud. In like minutes the salesman had the manager in the room. We heard I think like 3 excuses why the cables hadn't arrived and the best one was there was a problem with the dealerships check. When I heard that I informed them that come the next Friday the bike would be 100 percent ready to be rode off their lot or they had better be ready to refund our downpayment. Come Friday my girl was riding but nobody knew anything about the takeoff parts. That took another week and then they tried to pawn off some used cables as new. This experience left me with a total distrust of dealerships and cuz of that you will never see me on a brand new Harley. I still support Harley but not thru a dealership and never will

A had a absolutely piss poor experience buying my 22 fxlrst at badlands harley in medicine hat too. They took advantage of me on the price charging me 2k more for a used one than what they quoted me for a new one. They bungled the install of parts to such an extent it was truly unbelievable. 30% too much oil, riser stud that wasn't even locktited and came loose on me, wiring that wasn't even plugged in, crimp connector one end wasn't even crimped and on and on and on. After I politely refused to bring the bike back in to get "fixed" it was total non communication. Not so much as a single reach out to say sorry, to say how can we make this right, nothing. Considering I was a brand new customer, only 40 so they could have had 25 years of new bikes, parts, swag etc from me and bought 15k of parts and gear on top of the bike, was beyond unacceptable. Overall cost was about half of what the new one would have cost. He paid it off in less than a year, still has it and has done all the maintenance and customization himself. I love Harley's and they closed my favorite dealer and the next closest one is a huge mega dealer that I don't like from some previous experiences so I just did the same thing with my new (to me anyway) Road King. most of the issues are dealer issues ..
these were not Harley Davidson factory issues. I mean if you like Harleys, don’t blame the brand.
there is a pricing guide for labor called a flat rate manual. I was a motorcycle mechanic at three different dealerships. I got paid flat rate. If the manual said I would get paid one hour for changing/swapping out a pair of handlebars, then I would make one hours pay at whatever the flat rate was at that time. If it took me 45 minutes, I still got paid for an hour. But if it took me five hours, I only got paid for one hour.
most mechanics, in fact, every mechanic I have ever worked with at those different dealerships, could always beat flat rate. Example.
if I had to put a head gasket on a Honda, CB 750 which required pulling the engine. I would get paid eight hours labor. But I could do that job in five hours… I still got paid eight hours..
warranty work was different, you had to go buy that manual, and it always pay the mechanic Less.. The flat rate manual for that same job doing warranty work, would only pay about five hours pay, because they knew how long it would actually take..
pretty much every mechanic hated doing warranty work for that reason..
you know, the fact that that dealer overcharged you, that was actually worth it to you. Look what you have learned.
It’s like lending a friend money, ….if you never see them again-- It was worth it…

I tried negotiating a ‘23 HD Breakout but the absolute rape incurred at the dealer level was absurd, the plus pluses, limited availability charges, and additional fees from both HD and the dealer a cold hard stop for me. At the same time my brother was looking to trade a Low Rider and Wide Glide against a Breakout, both bikes under 4K miles and flawless. The dealer offered him $9,400.00 for both, which by the way were purchased there. Setting on the showroom floor at the time was an identical Low Rider in rough shape for $17,495.00, later reduced to $14,995.00 to be fair to the rapists. Immediately I deferred to BMW’s R18 which I had more than a mild interest; in stark contrast the BMW dealership acted as true professionals start to finish with no plus plus BS. I now own the R18 100 Years Anniversary which I love, and my brother, well he went home to ride what he already owned without a thought about it. These are toys, not necessities, and HD did not get our money and I will not darken their door again. Sometimes once a better mousetrap is found there’s no going back. Someone posted a video on BMW’s R18 and someone commented on it that HD had nothing to worry about, I replied they have more than plenty to worry about, it just doesn’t happen to be the R18. Thinking your video seconds my opinion. BTW, I’ve owned 3 HD’s and enjoyed each, I love the BMW considerably more; perhaps HD should be a bit nervous, if not worried. Thanks for sharing. Ciao.

They have an excellent inventory and regularly host events to stay connected with their customers. They are a great dealer to deal with.

You can find countless videos with horror stories, just like yours. And I have horror stories of my own. It is so so sad that the Harley dealerships are ruining Harley. It really blows my mind that they still even have loyal customers. I had a sales manager tell me, after bringing me a price that was 5K over MSRP “ I don’t care if you don’t get this, if you leave here today without it, it won’t be on my showroom floor for more than two days before someone else does” how the hell are they even able to still get business? Harley motors needs to fix their dealerships before the company completely tanks.

Next time, take your old bike back and tell them to stick it and go else where until you find one that treats you like they appreciate your business. I had two friends that purchased brand new street glides and when the dealership got done with them they ended up paying way more than what they were quoted thru little tricks and scams similar to what was going on with you. It's like they have all been trained in how to con you. Just to get an extra fob for mine turned into an ordeal.

Great Video and very informative. I live in the US and never really was interested in Harley's. Early on they were notorious for breaking down thus the nick name "Hardly Davidson". I have only owned Honda's and Kawasaki's and I currently have a 2010 Triumph Rocket 3 Touring. This Triumph is by far my favorite. My Honda CB 750-4 was back in the day. I bought that one brand new in 1978.
I was not surprised that BMW is popular in Europe. How is the Triumph market there and where you are? They are based in Great Britain and have been for a long time (started as BSA). They are quite respected here, but the used market is flooded with Harley's and Indian, as you noted, is gaining ground. My next motorcycle just may be an Indian Scout, when I decide to downsize. Keep up the fine work, I look forward to your upcoming videos!

Thanks. I like the Rocket 3. Their hp and torque is quite impressive. I’m not aware of any Triumph dealers around here and I can’t remember the last time I saw one on the road. Harley is a big player here, and I tend to see a fair amount of sport bikes like Suzukis, Yamahas, and Hondas. Actually, I don’t see many Indians either.

Msrp is just the starting place to negotiate. Ask to see invoice? Holdbacks? Rebates? Buying experience the worst part when it should be an exciting experience. I hate even walking into dealerships anymore with their shenanigans. I buy on line and have bikes/cars shipped. The trade ins are still a problem but less shenanigans with in line purchases.

Can'eh'dia'n, old prairie 'farm boy' and have lived and worked in all 4 Western Provinces. I think I've been to just about every HD dealership in Canada... and many in the USA (43 states so far).
Just come across your channel for the first time... subscribed. Riding since 1967 on 'too fast for fun shit' and first HD in '91, Heritage Softail. Now... '06 Road King, last I could get with a carb!
Still alive and survived crashes and cancer...lol... waiting for the F'n snow to melt.
Appreciate if you would somehow communicate where the dealership is, as to never 'darkin' their door. I have dealt with the Yorkton, Sask. people way back when and they were awesome. The Saskatoon people were "could care less attitude", if I even bought an F'n Tshirt. Regina... didn't even talk to anyone there. BTW... email is my name at g mail.

I've been wanting to buy a Harley for a few years. I've gone through the purchase process a couple times and the HD dealers are so frustrating and difficult that I cancelled the deal. The dealers try to over charge, wont disclose information until I'm in the finance managers office. At this point I think I'm going to stick with other brands because its the dealer that the customer has to interact with, not the manufacturer, and I don't trust HD dealers.

That’s too bad. There are some good dealers out there but they are hard to find. I had one here until 2021 when Harley closed them. I wish I had the answer but it seems like the dealerships just get bigger until they just don’t care about customer service anymore.

It's important for any business to realise who is paying the bills. Small businesses usually do but big bussinesses lose sight. You can tell what kind of service you are going to get if the 'boss' parks out front and customers need to park elsewhere.
