  • On a recent trip home from Houston Texas to Pascagoula, MS we had the tail winds in our favor and hit 230 mph ground speed in the Sling TSI. This is an incredible plane to be able to get those kinds of speeds on only 8gph of fuel.

I used to live in Pascagoula. This was back in 88. There was a bit more going on there back in those days. Plus Diehard with Bruce Willis was about to come out. Best Christmas movie ever. What a time to be alive.

An impressive performance by an outstanding kit plane. That's even better than my turbo Mooney. I wish somebody could offer something like the Sling TSI with just a tad more power and FAA certification so we don't have to build the beast.

Yes great results and this was at 11,500. Up around 15k it would be around 155TAS. It is great to get so many features for a fraction of the cost of a certified plane. If you ever wanted to learn more about the build you should reach out to a build assist center like Evan Brunye. He can guide you through the process pretty painlessly.

How can that be more impressive than a turbo Mooney? You should see 170 to 180kts in that. It’s all relative to altitude and a tailwind. For example I’ve seen 260 mph over the ground with 26 inch tundra tires…

If the new FAA MOSAIC rules come through, the Sling can be certified as an LSA. SO that means they can sell fully built planes. I've got my fingers crossed. It's a capable plane at a good price or the times (would be nice if we could go back to the days when a plane cost as much as a car, but that's not likely)

I do like them. Just got them recently and they are very lightweight and do not interfere with viewing the glass panel. On the down side I typically like using a pair of croakies which don’t work well with them.

Consider that it’s 8.3 gph or 28 mpg, at 170 mph! Any car that could reach that speed would be getting less than 5 mpg going that fast.
