Important! We have 10 Tips & Tricks about driving a car in Bali for you. 1. Drive slowly! Don't rush anywhere. 2. Motorbikes have higher priority... 3. Please remember about motorbike spaces on the left and right in traffic jams. 4. In Bali there are no negative emotions on the road. Really! Despite everything always be smiling :) 5. Emergency lights mean that the driver is going straight :) 6. Change lanes very slowly. Turn on your signal up to one minute before you plan to change lanes. :) The ride is smooth. There are no sudden brakes. 7. If a driver from the opposite direction or at an intersection turns on his high beam headlights, it means that you should stay out of his way! It has a completely different meaning here. 8. If the oncoming driver has his turn signal on and overtakes a motorbike or something that is standing still on the road, which is not uncommon in Bali, it means that he needs some space. 9. Bali's roads can vary greatly in quality, from smooth highways to bumpy, pothole-ridden streets. Drive cautiously, especially on rural roads where unexpected obstacles like livestock (even monkeys!) or pedestrians may appear. 10. Make sure you have a valid International Driving Permit along with your driver's license from your home country.
Thank you for sharing. Been to Bali thrice but each time hired a drive with car. Motorbikes, cars and everyone was horning away in the slow traffic & jams. Seems like very stressful driving. Does the 2.5mil IDR cost of car rental for a week include insurance with CDW? (Guss this is very important )
Thanks for your question! This is Bali, here people rarely have insurance, especially on scooters. As for our car, I know we were supposed to have insurance, I'm not sure, because it was all verbal and via Whatsapp. The owner of the car offered a $1000 down payment in case of accident and theft :)
Hi, In the south of Bali we traveled to Sanur, Kuta, Uluwatu and Nusa Dua (I recommend Mandala Toll, you will get there much faster). Sometimes there is a bit of traffic jam during rush hour, but it's definitely better than in the Canggu area. Generally, traffic in Bali is relatively safe and slow 🙂
