Big Announcement about the sawmill video posted today on Patreon ! Big things are coming Join the OTW Patreon to find out: https:www.patreon.com/outofthewoods
Why spoil the anticipation, just like the movies @ theaters, they eventually appear on your favorite streaming service.
Don't emulate the cat who almost perished from a disease called curiosity.💡
My mom always said "Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back."
Patrick, your mom lied, my vet prescribed satisfaction & it failed 💡
Regarding your firewood measuring stick, a phrase from my past seems to fit:
"Those who matter don't care, and those who care don't matter."
Be blessed today!
Thanks for including Paul Harvey in the video. It’s important to keep that history alive. Great man. Great voice. Great wisdom.
You bet
I really enjoy the videos of all the other projects and chores on the property. It doesn't have to be saw milling 100 percent of the time. Mixing it up keeps it interesting.
Thanks 👍
Those of us who watch you regularly know you care about your work. You are very precise and exacting in everything you do. That's one of the things I like about your channel. One of them!
Nathan, thanks for the wonderful Paul Harvey recordings. He was such a wise gentleman.
Good day . Back in the late 70's they had him on our local rock and roll radio station . This was before FM was used. We'd listen to him at lunch time at work. One day he told about a women from here who's very young son called for an ambulance for his mother . This was also long before 911. They showed up and took her to the hospital where she found out she was having a bay that she didn't know she was pregnant for. It was pretty cool hearing the small city here being named on his show .
Local DJ Ron Chapman took over the Paul Harvey broadcast , Ron has passed also both these men had a way with a story that grabbed you from the beginning til the end and Now for The Rest of the Story!!!
I'm like you Nathan. I can't stand it having firewood too short so that you can get warm twice by having to go get more. Don't worry about those Facebook trolls.
ALL your videos are relevant Nathan! I live in an suburban community where all the farmland is being sold for housing developments and commercial sites. We arrived here 33 years ago through the Marine Corps and it was all farmland and it all disappeared! Sad! I guess the farmers children didn't have the guts for hard work. The area now is overcrowded, and we're too settled to move. Keep up the great videos Nathan!
I got an idea.....Get a Joe Maine Silver beak for each chicken and have them split those bigger rocks.....Yeah, I know, brilliant! Love the Paul Harvey inserts......Thanks for the video and all the supporting cast (Excavator, Side by Side, Dump trailer, Husqvarna Chain saw, skid steer, chickens, Horses, goat and not sure Momma Cat was there).
Some people just don't acknowledge any other way to do things than the way they do it. Ignore them Nathan
Nathan, It's refreshing to hear Paul Harvey's voice and wisdom interjected in your monologue about all the work you do to improve your business and property. The American Dream is accomplished by those who work hard and ethically; making this nation a better place....For you, that is one farm and sawmill at a time.
"I think it looks pretty good.... That might be overkill for a culvert in an old farm pasture...But, I think it looks nice and when someone drives over it I think they'll know the person who did it cares about their work."
YESSIR!
The little things that trigger people will never cease to amaze me. Maybe you should use the marking gauge to saw up a red cedar log just to see if you can set a new record for comments.
Man, some people are ust born and raised to complain and comment-bully someone - ignore them: they are simply jealous of what they cannot do/have. And my compliments of the initial log splitting with your friend and his son (?) gathering the split pieces. Always said you have the best B roll on RUclips, but that three shot with that incredible sky in the background - applause, applause.
Thanks Nathan for sharing here on youtube. I don't get over to the other places you mentioned, I'm sort of thin skinned about a few things and folks just don't behave themselves on the other outlets. You're doing a great job on here and we enjoy listening to you and watching what all you share with us on here about your days work and Bruno and respect your wife's privacy. Stay safe and keep up your great videos and the fun you have making them. Fred.
I could watch you painting a wall Nathan and i would think it was worth watching. You’re always entertaining and and hardworking. Keep up your fine work mate. 👍🏼
Nathan, it would be good for you and Mike Morgan to work together. You could teach Mike a lot about the sawmill and kiln drying lumber, and Mike could teach you a lot about operating your equipment. He is very good with his excavator and skid steer. The both of you would gain a lot of knowledge from each other. It would be great, my friend! Have a great day!
Collaboration videos generally do well too.
What I’ve found is the people who are the most miserable in their lives are the ones who make the biggest stink of all the different media platforms. They will sit at their keyboard and berate you or anyone else, for what they perceive as being done wrong, yet they won’t ever look into a mirror to see that their own lives are out of wack.
Great video Nathan your videos are down to earth no bullshit. Here in the foothills of North Carolina where I live most of the folks are down to earth easygoing. Stay safe and May God bless you and your family.
Watching your videos of day to day operations on your farm bring back a lot of memories for me. My grandpa was a farmer and I planned on joining him when I got out of the Navy. Because of circumstances beyond his control, he had to sell his operation just prior to me getting out so I never got the chance to join him. That was over 40 yrs ago and he’s gone now, but I really enjoy this as much as the saw milling videos. Thanks Nathan. Nothing but go thoughts for you and your family. Stay safe.
Measuring stick and rip rap are just the right amount of overkill.👍
Little plastic stick is ingenious! Simple and laboursaving 😊
Totally!
It won't stop raining here in upstate NY, glad to see you're getting some decent weather.
Paul Harvey! Awesome!
I used to listen to Paul Harvey every day at work during lunch break.
Looks like a great time saving tool. good for you. Sometimes haters are stupid sometimes hilariously stupid.
I always look forward to your videos Nathan! I've learned so much about wood from you and even though I don't have a saw mill I do have an Etsy shop. What I've learned about wood from you has made me a better woodworker. Thank you!
PS I think the Pajama people are talikg over Lancaster, PA!!
Glad to help!!! Watch out form them
10:20 Nathan, many people (most?) feel a great need to make themselves appear to be more knowledgeable, more capable, and much more important than they are. The best way they can accomplish this (they think) is to attempt to put down others. Just ignore them. You know what's best for you much more than any of us.
Love seeing your day to day work videos 👍
I could swear I spotted what looked like a wood chipper top chute on an Instagram reel yesterday. Maybe I was dreaming. 🤠
your not dreaming
Thanks for recommending "The War of Art". My copy arrived yesterday and I'm starting to read it today.
Good deal
I sure could have used Mr. Kato the other day. I had to dig up my roof drain culvert under my driveway. By hand. Pick and shovel the old fashioned way. Got it done.
……….. the person that put it up takes pride in his work” ……..what a great outlook! And how true.
I think the firewood marker is brilliant!
+
Absolutely!
I have a SMALL "fireplace insert"...a wood burning stove, with doors and a fan, that sits inside my fireplace. It can heat most of my house. But the biggest log that will fit in it is only 15 inches. I stopped letting tree service people cut logs for me because they always cut them at 18", and I ended up having to trim them just to get them in my fireplace. Now I cut my own logs and there's a lot less wasted wood and time.
You should see the fire wood attachment for a front end loader on Diesel Creek. Picks up the log, positions it for the cut and splits the cut section. Pretty neat.
Fully appreciate the time you spend on the edit work.
Two things I like, OTW and Paul Harvey. Keep up the great work.
Just so you will not forget we deeply appreciate the long hours you put in the videos. Thanks.
I appreciate that!
Nathan, I loved that you included Paul Harvey in your Video, great job.
Hey, thanks!
You might consider setting the tongue of the little tilt bed trailer on an up ended cement block. Doing so will reduce your bending and lifting, as well as allowing you to back directly to the trailer coupler.
Put some of that big rock in the mud where the water comes out of the culvert to prevent erosion!
Great Video, Made a measure tool for cutting firewood years ago, it sprouted legs and left, so I just marked different lengths on the bar works just as good but I like the one you have its a good tool to have. Hope you enjoy your chipper I love mine gets the job done! Thanks for the great music, I like the banjo, special tones special meanings to me. Paul Harvey yeah buddy! He was a great guy. As far as being called an amateur Nah! you are better than some Pros I've seen. Great rock work, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and behold you did great! Stay safe ... John Toccoa
I wouldn’t worry about haters using your firewood markers, I use a magnet mount and a mingo pain marker for 16” it’s always something and yea I’m sure it took more time to set up the cameras up than it did to get those stumps out, good content.. keep it up...Tim
Love this kind of video - doing what has to be done! You’re such a joy to watch!✌🏼😊
Ared cedar tree grows from Juniper shrubs. I hope this clears any confuciuosness from others.
👍👍👍👍
The rip rap looks good. Thank you for the Paul Harvey clip. I find his old stuff fits well now as much as when he said it before.
Your place is greening up nicely and I'm sure you will have some fun getting the new place ship shape.
Take care, stay safe,
jack
Well, Nathan, I, for one, really appreciate the work you put into your videos. You get some fantastic and interesting footage, with your various cameras. Thank you!
I appreciate that!
The older chickens will likely attack the younger ones but it should not be too bad and it will not take very long for them to be friends. I have not yet seen chickens get along right away when introduced.
that stick is slick, wish I had one back in my firewood days
I am watching your channel for the past four years now and it is the first time I saw the back of your house also your yard.
Yeah I don’t go back there much. Just now it usually
I think that is a neat log marker. Don't have any over long or short logs.
I really do enjoy the Paul Harvey audio that you add every now and then. More would be nice. As for the measuring stick for the chain saw I have only one question. Does it work. Obviously the answer is yes. So for all of you "perfect Peters" live with it.
This is perfect, I was just thinking about this stick the other day when I was cutting up fire wood and trying to remember what it was. Thanks! 🎉
Good job Nathan. Whenever I click on one of your videos, the first thing I do is give it a thumbs up. I know that whatever I'm going to watch willl be very interesting and informative as well as entertaining. Keep up the good work and God bless you and the family.
I appreciate that!
hi there you and the machine made stump removable easy .wood mizer makes a great sawmill but there splitter is not for me , don't care much for multi split of box wedges .still well made . best to all ,john
You need two lengths of culvert there.
Hello Nathan, I enjoy all the videos that you post I know there’s a lot of people that only want to watch the sawmills, but I like to watch everything that has to do with your farm and the growth of your business over the years I’ve been watching for I don’t know how long long time but please keep them coming and I enjoy it again as I see all of your videos don’t stop for anybody’s nasty comments or anything like that. Just keep them coming.
Thanks very much. And best regards.
FRED Thomas
Looking forward to seeing that new chipper in action. Enjoyed the video!
Thanks 👍
I think, that orange plastic measuring stick is genious 👍👍👍
I love it!
I was thinking we would see the siding on the chicken coup when you first started out on the video. Not yet. 😂
Paradise Nathan. You hang in there friend.
You have more cool tools and machines than just about anyone else! Doing anything in that neat woodshop?
I never would have thought you buying bedding I just figured you would use the saw dust
Hey Nathan thanks for that Paul Harvey. I used to listen to him. Love it. Great attachment that grapple. And good job on that driveway culvert. Cool video 👍❤️
You bet
Love Paul Harvey, really miss his commentary
You like driving that tractor don’t you 😄. You could’ve used the side x side and the little trailer to pick up those stumps or better still just throw them in the back of the side by. 😂
Enjoyed the video and thanks for getting the little goat unstuck.
Paul Harvey " ....and know you know the rest of the story "😊
Culvert crossing looks great! Still wish you would have made it a little wider. Have a great day.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for sharing this story 👍😁
Thanks Nathan. I grew up in that part of the country and noticed something interesting about your videos. You never seem to have trouble with wasps, hornets or yellow jackets. I always seemed to run into them, usually when least expected.
I usually figure two hand spans is about 16 inches.
Do they make an electric motor version of the sawmill? Seems like it would be much quieter
Yes but you need 3 phase power
I can’t wait to see the comments on Facebook
Very enjoyable Nathan!
It’s good to see you and your day.
Enjoyed the video, nice stone work 😊
Love this channel!
Glad to hear it!
Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Great job , love all the options, keep them coming. Memphis Tn
More to come!
I'll watch anything you do Nathan
Thanks, Nathan. Good episode.
And great video, I have watched it 3 or 4 times so far.
Wow, thanks!
Thank you
Chicken coop siding, connect the Mr Cool, all things in good time, prioritize the tasks ....🤔
Thanks once again for an interesting video and look at what you do at your farm. It’s good to see the progress on the jobs you need to finish and it’s good to tag along as you progress, keep safe and I look forward to another good video in the future!
thanks for a great video....Peace to you and your family
I'm glad I stuck around for the end because I was about to ask you about the wood chipper! It's like you read my mind.
Thanks for sharing your day to day work! I love all the little tidbits of knowledge dropped throughout your videos. I'm considering buying some land and you've let me in on what I'd be getting into. I look forward to seeing your next one!
So why is using that orange doo hickey any different than using a tape or any other gadget to measure firewood? Nothing wrong with a little precision and consistency and there's DEFINITELY nothing wrong with making your job easier. Of course I'm a gadget guy so I enjoy seeing all your tools and gadgets. Thanks for the videos.
The tools you use are a personal choice, forget about the haters. Maybe they are related to Mama cat 😉🤣
Hi Nathan, I was thinking that you might want to put a bit of that riprap down around the bottom of the conduit to slow the outflow and inflow to decrease erosion. I’ve seen others do this. Just love watching all you do!
Nathan, here in Tennessee we use the skin (including tail) of a Grey Squirrel to measure the length when cutting firewood. Also, you might get some negative feedback from the mud turtles if you make your culvert crossing too fancy with more than one size rock.
Thank you sir for a good video 👍
As always you make all of your mundane tasks interesting. We'll done for yet another productive day .BTW I sure like your house view what a great back garden.
Thank you!
Better 'overkill' than have it failing just when you need it.
Another great video, Thanks.
Thanks again!
People trying to run your life can’t even run their own life!
Always enjoy watching!
Glad you enjoy it!
Cheers Nathan, enjoyed the video, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it
Looking forward to clearing back field since your perfect culvert job.
you are a good guy, keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos.
I appreciate that!
Nathan, you once had a measuring gadget that used paint at set intervals for cut length. Did that not work out? I thought that was a slick idea.
