My plan is to build a 12" cab and transplant the Rage 258 Power Section into it for a light Power Amp/Cab solution...using an Origin Effects Deluxe61 as a preamp.
Honestly, there’s probably pretty affordable power amp solutions you could use with that. I’ve been contemplating a small hi-fi stereo power amp to put with a speaker cab and see how that does. Are you just going to put an effects loop in the rage?
@@Chucksguitargeekery I have a SD PS170 Class D power amp and usually run a AIAB pedal into a EQ, Trem, Delay...into the PS170 (Rocking 212 cab w/ V-Types) The way the DKX61 Trem reacts with the Drive should be a noticeable upgrade. I plan to use a XTS Shapecharger > DLX61 > Source Audio ZIO > Catalinbread Adineko > Rage 258 The ZIO has two outputs so if I dig the Rage 258 I plan to buy a second one for maximum carnage! Already got a Jensen C8R on It's way to swap out Blue Marvel...
00:22 just nailed one key point where newer solid state amps are failing. 8” speaker in the newer one, but a 12” in the older one. Back at one time, amp companies were putting in effort to actually try to make solid state amps *good*, useable pieces of gear. Now they have this attitude towards them that’s like: “Oh they’re just for beginners and kids - just stick a cheap tiny crap speaker in it and put it in the smallest crap cabinet you can make; it doesn’t matter how it sounds”.
I like your demo remind me Peavey backstage plus and the Peavey rage 258 ! Nice démo nice playing ! Bought the Peavey vypyr 15,and the Peavey vip1 ,and the Peavey vypyr x1 is to much gain the only amp that i used us the Peavey classic on the vypyr X1 i have problem i can not the in beetween sound to much gain,! even when i turn the prégain lower, not for me! for metal players!im an old rocker from th80's
I have bias. I like the old MIA peavey. It was a different age, it was all made here, and the cabs (even on the first gen rage) was solid wood construction vs partical board.
@@Chucksguitargeekery no wonder. It's beefier and more aggresive, that is surely more exciting in the room. But the Studio Pro is cleaner and less boomy. Also it's called STUDIO PRO so it's obvious it would record better ;)
I have heard that the US made Redstripes are the pinnacle of solid state peavey, but it is the redstripe era where they switched to China. I’m really on the lookout for a deal on a US made Redstripe Bandit, then my collection will be complete.
The 80s one was killer, way more midrange
both sound great!

Great video. You are right on 80s 12" Peavey's under $100. I've had to use DeOxit in the jacks/pots but for the most part they are trouble free.
I’m pretty sure every Peavey I have in my wall behind me needs Deoxit on a couple pots lol. But, I haven’t had time and they keep truckin’ along 🤷♂️
American made peaveys are GREAT! Personally, I think they got it right before the trans tube
Transtube sounds more tubey, whereas the Studio Pro sounds lika a fuzz into a clean amp. Both sound good. I would take either one tbh.

I have a Studio Pro 40 😜🤘 In the end it will be Keith Richards, Twinkies, and Peavey!🤜🤛
Don't forget cockroaches and boss pedals.
The red stripe hands down. The note is more solid and more dynamics
The katana has the digital high thing i cant deal with
I like the 80s girl better, and the Katana. Just sayin'. New girl is ok, not terrible just kinda meh to me.
It’s funny, in the room, I preferred the Transtube. But the vintage one recorded better 🤷♂️

The vintage USA Peavey's are better. Company was sold now made in China.
