Actually what dean was doing with the alcohol is kind of common with parents. I mean they probably don't jam a jack Daniels flavored finger in the babies mouth, but they do use vanilla extract (which one of the main ingredients is 35% alcohol) to soothe the pain on infants gums when their teeth start to grow in.
Hehe I forgot about this scene and soothed one of the crying babies at work with Smoke on the Water. And it worked too! Aah the wisdom of Dean Winchester. 😎
It makes me so happy and so sad to watch this because Sam sees in Dean the future he will never have and the past they had together. Dean will never be a father and have a nice calm life, he knows it. He just sees how caring Dean is and maybe it reminds him of his own childhood when Dean took care of him.
