- Short Line Railroad Switching On Cincinnati Eastern Railroad In Lawshe, Ohio On A Bridge Over A Road. Listen To The Train Climb Lawshe Hill & Climb The Grade At A Railroad Crossing In Mount Zion, Ohio. Video Includes Train Chase With Both Sides Of Train. This Train Is On The Eastern End Of The Norfolk Southern Railroad Peavine Line. CCET Leases 69 Route Miles Of Track From NS.
I was on my way to Portsmouth, Ohio to film the Norfolk Southern line and also CSX. While passing Peebles, Ohio my scanner started picking up activity on the CCET line. I stopped at Peebles and saw the end of the train passing by just after it had finished working McCoy Lumber. Then I went to Lawshe to catch them. The only road to Lawshe off of Highway 32 was closed at the bridge so I had to drive way around to take a back route to Lawshe. We see the train doing some switching on the main line. There is a long passing siding that is used for car storage. The train was switching flat cars around. I filmed the entire railroad switching process. It was interesting and some gravel was spilling out of the bottom of a few railroad cars.
Next we go to Tranquility Pike which is just east of Seaman, Ohio. Check out the train coming around the curve and climbing the grade. Is that awesome or what?! We see a closeup of the rail with a before and after shot.
After that we go to Mount Zion to get the other side of the train at a railroad crossing. This is Tricounty Highway. Listen to the awesome locomotives as they approach the level crossing. That was pretty cool. This is where Part 1 ends. Part 2 will start at a railroad crossing on the west end of Mount Zion. Part 2 will be a train chase from Mt Zion to Williamsburg, Ohio. It will include a look at abandoned railroad track in Sardinia and will include an awesome run at Williamsburg Hill. The train will be longer in Part 2 because there were loaded grain cars picked up at Mt Zion. Don't miss Part 2!
Filmed Thursday, May 16, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

3 Step Protection is for crew safety and was used in this video for switching. Three point protection is applied anytime either a crew member or a fellow employee of a different craft , fouls your train for any reason. Three point is most commonly used during coupling or securing or tying your train down. It consists of these actions. 1. Generator field switch in the off position. 2. Centering of the reverser. 3. Application of the Independent engine brakes. 4. A full service application of the Automatic brake. This in effect, prevents any movement of engines or a train , during a situation where a crew member fouls the equipment.
Nothing like eating cheese toast, drinking coffee and watching a Jaw Tooth video. Doesn't get any better.
Awesome and thanks for watching!
Sure enjoy hearing the engines working hard in the distance. Coming or going it sounds great.
Yes it does! I agree
Good Morning Brian.. I was watching a vid by Matt Mantel earlier and he might be going to Brett this summer for Shoestrings memorial. He's from the Medina OH area & since the both of you are personally known by Mark maybe you could rideshare to Brett together to save a few bucks & share some memories... Stay safe out there my friends..
I remember Shoestring talking about Matt. I never met him but he has to be a good guy if he was his friend. Thanks for the info. Thanks for watching also!
Nice
Thanks!
Hey, Mr.Jaw Tooth Brian it's a Beautiful Morning!, 😃🌄 🎸,0:18
Morning!
The train goes this way; then, the train goes that way; then, the train goes this way again. Then, a guy steps down from the locomotive, and sometimes spits some tobacco juice as he realigns the switch. Then, the train goes that way again. I love switching operations. Thanks Brian. Great video.
Good morning enjoy that video👍👍
Good morning!
Great video Brian. 👍
Thanks Jeff!
GM my friend great video
Thanks!
GoodcMorning JT & everyone, i love the sound heavy trains make when they are slowing down or speeding up. They bang, creak & screech just awesome sounds. I love this bridge just gorgeous with the narrow country road passsing underneath. Another cracking good video JT, Cant wait for part 2! ❤😊👍
Thanks for watching Carol!
Nice job Brian.
Thanks!
I love rail out in the forest (well anywhere really...); thank you for this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! Such a Beautiful place 💚🌳
It really is! Thanks for watching Gabor!
@@JawTooth You're welcome Brian!
hi jawtooth i like watching your videos on trains and i have a birthday on monday 20th of may my name is david salyers .
Awesome, happy birthday and I will give you a shout out!
Thanks again for yet, another great video JawTooth!
Also for the road scenery and the lovely country site you treated us with. Your part of the world is very green and lush. Thanks for sharing.
God Bless from Sydney mate! Keep them coming.
Glad you enjoyed it! We get a lot of precipitation in this part of Ohio. Its raining again today also lol
Hello, Sydney, from the Rio Grande Valley in southmost Texas! The part of the country that is in this video gets 46 inches of rain, and that sounds like heaven to me, because we are in a drought in south Texas, and I have inch-wide cracks in my soil. And very little rain this month,.
JawTooth have a question on DPU since the lead engine controls each one with jumper cables in series how do DPU power up
@@leecarlson9713 And a very ood day to you Lee from Rio Grande.
No wonder then the place is so beautiful!
We also know about droughts down here, every now and then.
A few years ago Sydney had to impose water restrictions that lasted about a year.
My little knowledge about Rio Grande relates to the old Western movies I use to watch and love with old 'stars' ( Burt Lancaster, Glenn Ford, John Wayne etc etc.)
I hope you do get some downpour really soon! Best regards.
Good video, Brian. Surprised I'm here so early.
Morning!
Wow! Excellent catching the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad, I like it, it's awesome, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you very much.
Thank you very much!
@@JawTooth You're very welcome, Brian, have a nice weekend.
More great trains around various crossings in Ohio with rock trains
railroad switching on a nice bridge, the most beautiful scenery and
of course the awesome live action pets this is always a great way
to start my morning thank you Jaw Tooth.🇺🇲🤠🇺🇲
Thank you very much! Good morning Roger!
Thanks JT! Love watching switching and listening to the Engineer & Conductor coordinating their actions.
Great location at the bridge too!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing video jawtooth! Cant wait for the train chase in part 2!
Thanks for watching!
Wow excellent video wonder why the train had to go backwards than going forward
They were shuffling around some railroad cars on a siding
Nice spot and like the bridge
Thanks for watching!
Where you off to now to shoot video
I like that bridge did shoot the train going east bound on that bridge in the video I watched
I heard the gravel falling and thought it was rain, too.
Thanks for watching!
Good Friday morning Brian, awesome video this morning with a cup of coffee. Have a good weekend my friend 🙏🏻
Thanks! You too!
Great location under the bridge...your camera work is excellent!
Thanks for watching!
Very awesome shot of the train right there at the bridge and even hearing the guys on your scanner is awesome too.
Thanks Alan!
nice mate
Thanks 👍
Stones falling out of the train could have broken a windshield if someone were driving under the bridge
Thanks for watching!
Howdy JT! Say... how do you know when CCET will be running? Do they have a regular schedule or is it just by demand. I'd like to come chase them sometime. Couldn't make out the frequency they use - screen was kinda glared out when you showed your scanner. Great job and thanks for sharing 🤠
❤
Thanks for watching!
It would be fun to watch those rail cars being loaded with rock.
I would like to film that but I don't think I can get close enough
Amazing videos Jaw Tooth keep up the good work
Kinda puzzling why they are always facing long hood forward now when they are returning with heavy-loaded cars…
They don't have any way to turn the locomotives. They always face that direction but they are leading front forward when going the other direction
@@JawToothThank you for that explanation! I was wondering about that.
Another great video JT keep them coming Sir and play the video Son awesome as always and have a good day from Scotland 😊
Thanks 👍
@@JawTooth your welcome JT 😊
23:50 That hopper car leaking gravel is going to be empty soon! Yikes 😬
I thought it was rain at first lol
Looks like some ballast work needs to be done on the sags in the rails on that curve...
This area is a maintenance nightmare because of the hillside and all the rain that we get
Pretty view under this bridge and the bend before the RRcrossing , Nice shot !
Thanks! It is a very pretty area. It's very remote. When I was filming I thought to myself that I better not get stuck in the mud because it would be difficult getting a tow truck all the way out there
You are correct I found one reasonably priced thank you
Good to hear
That was also gorgeous scenery on your drive to the crossing! I love the gently rolling hills and waded area! Thanks, JT!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
Cincinnati Eastern has a lot of good action for a short line railroad. You bring us a lot of good stuff!
Hi JT
Have you considered using a drone for some of your footage ?
It would help you get better footage , especially with the train at the start when you were below the bridge with vegetation on either side.
Take care
Yes, I am wanting to get one. Hopefully I will get one this year
Those railway trucks are insane! Great video!
Hi, Jaw Tooth, I've loved trains all my life, my grandfather was a freight engineer on the B&O, (I was born in New Castle and they lived there, too) and I even rode on a passenger train from Pittsburgh to New Castle when I was a kid in the late '60's. When we moved to Oklahoma in the early '70's one of the things I missed were the trains, and it sure would have been nice to have had RUclips back then! Oh, and I remember visiting Horseshoe Curve, but didn't it have a retired steam locomotive on display at one time? Keep the videos coming, please!
A busy start to the weekend. Hope the weather is cooperative! See you on the next, Brian! 🙂👍🇺🇸
This clip has ASMR vibes. I love watching switching especially at such an awesome location! And seeing that same train later on that crossing was unexpected. That was cool. Thanks for sharing!
Another Jaw Tooth production! Never a letdown, always great! Thank you for sharing 😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
The switching on the railroad bridge was interesting to watch. The overgrown trees and bushes prevented us from getting a view of what the actual switching was taking place. The engines were working hard coming up the east of Seaman, Ohio. I am looking forward to the second part of your video of this train.
Thanks Thomas! I will post Part 2 soon
Awesome Jaw Tooth watching enjoying too and enjoy the side show too Awesome video JT 🚂🚂👌👍😃😎♥️
That's a really great vantage point for watching trains, quite picturesque, even though it reminds me that I start feeling very uncomfortable being directly under a bridge with a train going over it, almost claustrophobic. It goes back to when I was going to school. Unless I crossed over the rail lines themselves, I had to go under bridges to get to school. There was one benefit from going under one of those bridges, and that was a rather spectacular piece of graffiti, a drawing of a reclining woman. She had originally been nude, but somebody drew a bikini on her. She was only done in chalk, but every so often somebody would come along and make sure it was still in good order, so it was there for years. Sadly, the local council eventually painted over it. Such a waste, as it was almost a historical treasure. Somethings like that are worth keeping.
I love the sound those working locos put out.
Jawtooth fan. Thank you Brian for the videos! Been a rail fan since I was a child. At 12, I heard the whistle of a steam locomotive from my home in the projects of Elmira, NY. Ran two blocks to the RR tracks to watch the Freedom train roll by. That was 1976.!
Very cool!
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! 👍🙏
Thanks for watching!
@@JawTooth De rien. Très bonne journée !
That was a great video, JT! Excellent as always. Thank you very much!! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Magnificent catches of the train coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars.
Thumbs up.
Keep up the perfect work, Brian, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
Many thanks! Greetings to you in Portugal
Those rocks sure did sound like it was raining thanks for sharing your videos with us
Beautiful morning in East central Illinois. Drinking coffee and watching the CCE . After the Iowa Traction in Mason City, I caught the Iowa Interstate in Des Moines. Thanks for the great video
Awesome! I want to see the Iowa Traction again
All of the shots going around the curves were cool 😎!
I gotta admit I enjoy it when you inspect RR infrastructure. Keep it coming, son!
More to come!
Looks like they need to Do Some Surfacing😮
Rocking along the R.R. lines. It's a good day.💯👍😁.Any day!
You got that right!
That is sure a beautiful spot where you're filming bt the bridge, JT!! 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing JT👍
My pleasure!!
Awesome short line action Jawtooth! Cool bridge! 👍
Thanks a lot!
17:55 - Thanks for the Google Maps info. 🙂
32:00 - Eyes on the road, brother.
Nicely done,,thanks for sharing,,😊
Another great video from the one and only JAWTOOTH! And, Brian, being the safety minded person you are, you would be remiss to not notify the CCET of that defective car dropping stone. It should be done before someone gets hurt, because there's always that possibility. Never mind the vehicle damage possibilities! They can just look you up on RUclips, you don't have to send the video.
Thanks 👍 They do watch my videos so I know they will see it but I will mention it to them also
Thank You Jaw Tooth, the relaxing short line! Very Kool I Say!
Thanks for watching!
Cool, something new. That might be a good spot to film from next winter.
Definitely!
there's always '' more '' great videos and it's always a pleasure to watch
Glad you like them!
Just love these train videos on bridges, this video was definitely fun. This was a perfect day for a train video
Thank you very much!
Great video take me back to my Railroad days
Thanks for watching!
JT, another great video, brother! Love the locations you stream! If it wasn't for you, I'd never see any trains. I live in LA (Lower Alabama) where we don't have main lines. Thank you sir! God bless you!
Excellent vid thanks 👍
Hey jaw tooth your area in Ohio is awesome. Lots country scenes. Just like my area . Glad you caught train. Keep up the awesome job. Have a great railroad day.🚂🙋♀️
Thanks! Will do! what part of the world are you in?
@@JawTooth Earlville NY. NYSW RR line. Utica branch
Heavy haul railroad switching by the CCET with hard working power, doesn’t get any better than that JT. Boy they need to do something about those leaking hoppers lol. Take care JT.
Sure some long flat cars. Good vantage spot. CE railroad working hard. Interesting JT, THANKS. ❤
Thanks for watching
Grew up next to the Durango-Silverton and watched it come in at night as a little kid. Enjoy your videos.
Very cool!
Great video with some nice switching action and radio chatter! I think they better tighten up the traps on the leaky hopper..somebody ain't gonna be happy getting unlucky and catching a stone with their windshield! Have a good weekend JT!
🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
Another great video. Track looks like needs a weed sprayer. Love the sound of the SD40-3 and the GP15-1 makes
Nice Video
I love the view from below the trestle. It's super cool! It would not be good if a car passed under the trestle with the gravel falling. Scratch the paint. They would be suing the railroad. Awesome video! Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on
Wow, thanks for Super Chat Mark! That really helps pay the gas for sure! I appreciate your support and your comments!
@@JawTooth your welcome Brian, I always appreciate your videos and your commentary. Thank you

My family lived in Adams County for four generations. They then came to northern Ohio in the 40s. I’ve driven all over those small roads and hills. I still have second and third cousins living in that area.
Awesome! I live in Brown County which adjoins it. I used to have 26 acres in Adams County but I sold them
A "Revolutionary War" soldier named William Pemberton of Adams County was a distant uncle of mine , his half-brother George Pemberton of Wayne County KY was one of my distant ancestors .
Great catches and video
Thanks! I got them again today with 24 loaded cars
Hi Jaw & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks Jaw & Friends Randy
Hi Randy, thanks for watching!
Nice catches
Thanks!
Maybe they'll put some side racks on 'em? Purina will be opening up soon and perhaps they will use them for that? Great video as always bud! 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Good morning brother, where can I get a speed gun like you have, I would like to get one, thanx keep on keeping on
I just ordered mine off the internet. You can Google radar guns and they will pop up
Great video jawteeth
Appreciate it
Imagine what this would look like if it was a berkshire, northern, or mikado steam locomotive pulling up that, great catch btw!
That would be cool! I have ridden the 611 on two round trips on this line
@@JawTooth Dude that is like one of my dream trains I wanna ride on, I've seen big boy 4014 in person though when it came down to Houston texas though
That crossing at Tranquility Pike has been bad since I can remember, even when it was NW owned. 45 years, maybe! 😂
Nice video
Thanks
I like the lettering on those ex-auto racks: TTXX! What do they mean by "5 to a tie" (or whatever).
Nice.
Thanks!
Thank you JT. Please tell me what “5 to a tie”:means. I love to hear the clanging of the couplers when the trains starts moving.
Wow, 46 inches of rain a year? Even stereotypically rainy places in England only get about 32".
It stays swampy in a lot of flat areas near my home. Some places in my woods rarely dry up.
