So glad they are still making cars like this!
Definitely!!
Being glad is meaningless. You have to buy it in order for them to keep making them.
@@zarbon700 Pretty sure they will sell every one they make. (Car shortage)
And dealers will mark them up.
That’s all thanks to Morizo, (Akio Toyoda) when the best Driver of Gazoo racing becomes president of the company, you get someone in charge who understands the enthusiast community.
True that.. Toyota is such a successful company that they can afford to build cars like these because they have enough money save away and can play a lil..
I just got the GR86. I have been a Toyota fan for 30 years. I love the speciality cars from Toyota. I owned a FJ Cruiser and now the GR86. Thank you Toyota for making these cars.
Respect to Toyota for making this & respect to him for doing the interview so well in English….👍
The GR Corolla could be like a homologation similar to what Volkswagen did with the Golf Rallye G60. This has to be the sexiest & most powerful Corolla from factory.
It’s a great looking car in person. Every bit as good as it looks in photos.
Isn't the gr yaris also Homologation? Just that it's not sold in US, I think
@@harryqiddel1247 Yes the GR Yaris is homologated and no it's not sold in the US.
They already have gr yaris for that
Takumi Fujiwara has just entered the chat.
I really hope eventually Toyota eventually doubles up this engine and makes an inline 6 out of it. Would love to see the power of something like that, if it's even possible
BMW did that for them. The Supra won’t grenade its transmission at stock power levels either.
The Toyota Way - See behind this man's talk, PASSION & focused leadership by Maziso. I rest my case
Great questions and thanks for not interrupting him lol
absolutely agree
He’s a very interesting guy!
very respectful interviewer
I'm buying 1 now. Wow 😮
Still delivering the best car reporting in the business from this guy.
hardly, but i appreciate the comment.
This is a fantastic interview. I really got so much info out of this about the car. I'm just falling in love with this car more and more.
Me too man... me too.
Great interview with master engineer!
I hope Dealers will not mark these up like crazy, Excited Toyota is back !! making cool cars !!!
Plan on buying the Circuit Edition as soon as it’s available 😎
Better get in line if there's only 1,500 allocated to the states 😬
@@abehaile2659 🤞🏻
Good luck it's gone already.
@@dyaaong6030 Nobody has ordered any 😂
Yea! That is the quality I want to see. Great video! THX
I salute the Engineer.
His english is great, i wish i knew at least one other language like that guy.
He’s fantastic and his enthusiasm shows. This car is a passion project and I’m glad Toyota makes desirable cars like this.
That's gonna be a special little engines for many years to come.
This is a very special car imho
looks sick
I love it
liked and subbed. great interview. learned a lot more about the GR Corolla here than other channels. very cool that guest did his best in communicating in English too. I'd like one of those cars up here in Canada :)
Thanks! I *think* this will be available in Canada, but it will be extremly limited. I seem to recall hearing 200 for 2023 but that might be my imagination. IIRC the BMW 1M had 200 sold in Canada of an entire global production run of around 5,600 units.
I’m glad their our friends.
I just hope availability is good. Millions of people are going to want this car.
1,500 Circuit and done. 2023 only. 5,100 Core for 2023 and more the following years.
it is a masterpiece of engineering...
love the exterior look, similar to previous gen Type R. very aggressive.
No way. That civic was hideous, this thing just looks cool.
Well done Toyota. Well done. This car is a passion project and it is going to sell like hotcakes. Bravo Toyota. Bravo!
I’m very, very impressed with Toyota bringing the GR division to the forefront and making cars for enthusiasts like you and me.
@@revmatchtv Agreed!
Morizo bringing life back into the Toyota lineage
Great content with some technical talk for us nerds.
I had very limited time, so I hope you enjoyed it
Thanks your interview was educational and answered many questions about the development of the car.
Great questions. Very enjoyed. Thanks
This was fantastic but we really need a minimum 1 hour sit-down with this engineer to go over the development and performance components of the car. That would be a great service for car enthusiasts
I really hope they're gonna be able to meet the demands, I've gone to every toyota dealership in Oregon and put my name down and they said they were only gonna get 1 to 5 cars
So you on the list on 5+ dealerships?
@@JG-mg3if 7 at the moment lol I'm headed up to Washington next weekend and gonna put my name on a couple of toyota dealerships up there too
I really want this car ! 😭
Did he say 330hp or just mispronounced 300? So excited for this car…seriously considering grabbing one. Literally everything I’m looking for in my next car jeez
It’s 300. I think he misspoke.
Thats probably what it really makes 😂
I think he was trying to say 30 more hp than the Yaris
I think this limited production is all pre-ordered and taken...I was trying to find one as well
@@seinundzeiten preorders aren’t available yet
very special interview with a very special man.. best recognize you stand in the presence of greatness my good sir.
I'm glad it's a hatchback, the more videos I watch of it, the more I like it. Compact hatchbacks are hard to come by in North America unfortunately.. I'd jump on the Audi RS3 Sportback, if it were available here. Not a big fan of sedans. I like hatchbacks, wagons, and trucks all for their practicality and utility. Not a fan of Crossovers or SUVs as much, too much extra weight, higher center of gravity, and I'm not a soccer mom lol.(Just a bearded guy who drives semi trucks for a living) Coupes are good looking, but just not practical enough for me.
Bravo to Toyota and it's partners for offering fun, affordable, small displacement vehicles for the masses. Now if only more manufacturers would offer some more hatchbacks and wagons here in the US.
Excellent video quality, thank you.
Its absolutely gorgeous
Great Video!
I'm interested In this car or a 400z to replace my older mustang. The thing I'm concerned about is tuning. I'm assuming exhaust mods would provide pretty decent gains. But overall how much power can I little 3 cylander handle? I feel like it may already be at its limit unless you wanna get forged internals. I would like AWD but I would get tired of 300HP after a year or so.
Theres guys running 500whp with their GR Yaris in Europe on stock engine so I'm sure its up for the task.
This engine has reinforced internals vs the GR Yaris and the Yaris already can make a lot of extra power on the stock engine, so I wouldn't be worried at all about that. Also, the car is really light for a modern AWD performance compact.
There’s already people out there who have made significant gains with this engine. Even though it’s an i3, Toyota usually does not ever wring an engine out to its fullest potential. This is usually for the sake of reliability, but it can sometimes be unlocked like how it is with this engine. I mean look at the 2JZ, that was over engineered, and so was this G16E engine. It’s basically a more tame racing engine so it’s built for the abuse compared to turbo charging a little economy engine that’s made for mpg
Us Australians have a 500hp Yaris check out Motive Garage
@@thehermdawg10 whp or bhp? Link?
Your favorite car the Devel sixteen is in the production model stage, it's the V8 model but it's real at least, they've made videos on it actually going on track and on the street, and it only took them 8 years.
And a few more to make the 7 they promised
Wondering what kinda aftermarket exhausts are gonna come out for this thing
1.6 3cyl turbo 300bhp mind blow 4wd mind melted, body aero lost my mind .Thank you Toyota
Toyota is the BEST all around car company IMO. They deserve a trophy for making this car with a STICK ONLY. That is what I’m talking about.
Did they specify if the torsion LSD was only on the circuit launch version or also on core GR Corolla?
The LSDs are optional on core.
Get the LSD option to get the performance out of it. Otherwise the core edition will be lame
Want this car bad
I want one soooo bad! I tried to order one months ago. Was turned away. Tried again 2 days ago and was told there's 20 people ahead of me! F you Toyota lol not really.. I have a supra and love it. Also want this dudes zip up sweat shirt! Need it!
Put deposits in with a few dealers
Did the exhaust noise sound good in person? If there's a valved exhaust it defs should be loud but I didn't hear much of an exhaust noise during the previews and vids of other reviewers..
It sounds quite good in person. I’ve a little bit. I’ll post a RUclips short with it.
@@revmatchtv sweet!!!!
The front is absolutely wicked 👿👿👿
Since the Circuit Edition is reserved only for the year 2023 making it a limited run, how many of these will they make?
1500 Circuit, 5,100 Core are the 2023 targets
@RevMatchTV targets...hmmm... So could be more!
They should increase it to more than that if 500 are sold within the first two months
@@scathachx none have been sold yet
Suspension parts are in steel? I was hoping in aluminum as a lanser evolution or civic type R
Steel gona rust badly here in canada during salted winters
Man I just want to know what mpg is it expected to make and if the circuit version roof can hold a roof rack
Similar. I need it to fit a hitch bike rack. 🤞
same curious about mpg...
I'm hoping the core model is around 32k because dealer mark up is going to be hard to negotiate down
Crossing fingers but that seems optimistic for a car with a lot of manual construction. I’d guess far higher honestly. The GR86 starts at $29K and it’s a far simpler vehicle with traditional assembly.
@@revmatchtv yeah, but I like to get my hopes up 😂 I still want one regardless. Just patiently waiting

I Love Corollas...I drive an 06 S....but have always wanted a Hatch...I wonder how high I can jump this one?
Team Rolla !
Last week in stopped by two Toyota dealerships, one in Plano right next to the magnificent Toyota facility, and Toyota if Dallas, put my name on the list for the "Circuit Edition", but they were not taking a deposit, do I need to leave one anyways your thoughts I want that car
When a company hand builds a damn grocery getter, you know it's a serious car.
and crazy thing is following all past gr cars. theyre definitely underreporting the power figures. so its probably 320-330 hp crank AT LEAST
Probably;)

The dealer markup on this car will be through the roof.
Hail Toyoda!
I wish I can put this engine on my Scion iQ
めちゃくちゃカッコいいマシンだぜ❗️

Still waiting for the gr86 in my country
Did he say a shorter gear ratio compared to the GR Yaris?
Yes. It's heavier.
A corolla a want to buy. Extreme Widebody kit please.
What is the center diff?
When will we see this engine and all wheel drive system in a 86?
Nevet
How many Circuits will Canada get????
One per dealership. They only have 287!!!!!!
What about right hand side steering
In Australia and Japan
This would be even better with a big turbo. 🥳
More power is always better! This is about 11.8 lbs/hp. Not bad for the price. In Europe people are making 500hp with the stock block.
Bad cameraman. You got motoman in the background, in his blue booties, doing his review 🤣🤣
We had to work with what we had! That's Matt Maran Motoring. Motoman was there too =)
im lazy. is there an auto transmission?
Can't wait for the $5k-10k markups to begin. 😢
Yea…. Gotta wait a year or two…
Work with an MSRP only dealer. They exist!
@@revmatchtv how would you find msrp only dealers?
@@revmatchtv whether the MSRP dealers exist or not is not the issue, limited availability of the Circuit Edition will be the problem, there's an incredible demand already, some dealers already have a "list" of people that's triple digits long in 3 days since the reveal
That guy is so smart and chill.....him and Elon would get a long
WILL THERE BE A LEXUS MADE ON THE SAME ARCHITECTURE????
Lexus CT F on the way i hope
No word or rumor about this. Lexus is pivoting heavily towards hybrids and electrics. The most hardcore vehicles from Toyota are under the GR brand
You can see Matt Maran at the back of video at 1:31
Indeed! There was a time crunch so we had to film at the same time . He's a cool dude =)
Is it faster than the Yaris and the barely slower than the gtr
GR Corolla or type r ?
Learn Japanese and ask him how that awd system works i still cant figure it out 😂

@@revmatchtv i think were both in the same boat here 😂
guys will this beast be avallibile in Europe?
Not at launch. Later perhaps.
Why Lexus LC doesn't have 4 litter twin turbo V8 600hp engine
I need a high flow exhaust and a tune so I can get 300hp in my yaris
Why wasn't the 4 cyl Toyota Corolla engine used?
1 weight, 2 this engine already had a lot of racing development in place.
This engine standard... Dino 500hp... What a engine...
Arigato
Will this come to India 🇮🇳
Not in 2023. Not sure afterwards
Only if I am in the market for a new car……. Damn this is a good one!
It is
You're gonna overpay...
Why is there an EV mode? Is this a hybrid?
Not a hybrid. EV mode?
@@revmatchtv some reviewers had a chance to record the center console which had an EV mode button.
It is a preproduction model and that button is from the original Corolla. It won't be in the GR.
@@antster7 This is not a production car. In preproduction cars it’s common for bits to swapped out or missing.
I am a die hard Toyota fan, what makes angry though is that why is Toyota making this car for US and Japan market, the whole world probably need this car, they should bring it to the world market not only US and Japan.
It will also be available in Canada. They may expand further but this is by design a limited production vehicle like the GR Yaris. 1,500 for Circuit and 5,100 for Core in 2023.

why make such a master piece, and limit it to 1500cars? there are 1500 Toyota dealerships in the USA alone even if 100% of the Circuit Edition goes to the USA alone, that's 1 per dealership!!! of course that won't happen, it'll be spread out around the world, soooo
good luck ordering one =(
The Huindai Veloster N should have to step up against the GR Corola. its time making the N all wheel drive too
Would be interesting to see if Hyundai makes a move. However, they’re hugely focused on EVs right now, so I’m not sure it will happen.
It needs 4 cylinders
I wonder why the gr86 has less power compared to both hatchbacks
They want the targeted age group to stay alive without wrapping it around a tree.
@@1nvd xD
Because Toyota knows that boxer engines are terrible for turbocharging that’s why Subarus always have issues with their head gaskets going out all the time
because if it had more power it would be a $50,000 car.
Because just like its AE86 predecessor, the GR86 (even the older GT86) is designed to be an affordable entry level sportscar with more emphasis on agility (turning ability) rather than pure horsepower machine.
Sure, Toyota & Subaru could've use a turbo but it will eventually make the engine more complex & heavier which at the end also gonna make the price higher as well.
Only 300 likes 😅 okay good.
Maybe this means most Americans aren't as crazy about getting a GR as I am 🤞🏽
Get your deposit in asap lol
@@revmatchtv can you get one in now? or only for the circuit model?
Advice . If they cannot speak English well just have them speak their native language and subtitles. It will be explained better
For sure. I know this guy had a lot to say but was held back by his understanding of English. Would’ve loved to hear him explain it in his full understanding.
It would have taken a few days to get the video out dealing with the translation.
Oh come on guys, it wasn't that bad. The lead engineer elected to speak English. I assure you Toyota could have provided the engineer an interpreter if he elected. I applaud him for taking on the challenge; speaks to his character 💪🏽
