BMS protection board - Adding a extra safety layer to your DIY powerwall.

- This video describes the battery management system protection board. This board protects the BMS, wireing and the LifePo4 batteries from a short in the BMS. The story tells you how I got there, how I made my first SMD PCB attempt but quickly moved to regular THT PCB design again. Building the circuit, adding it between the JK BMS and the powerwall by installing connector on the BMS leads and the leads from the battery.

This video is for information purposes only. Be aware building a powerwall is not like making a Bob Ross painting....mistakes can cause large unhappy accidents.

Your edits have really improved
Thanks for your kind words. It's a new skill and I am learning every day.
That's a very good build.
Nice i was really hoping to hear Neffex-inspired about 10 times and you did not disappoint :D
Oh me parece muy interesante esta protección, por que sin ella como dices se puede estropear la bms y por consiguiente nuestro banco 😮
Very nice, I like the big ones more.
1. It would be useful to add a second connector to allow easy connection of an active balancer. Or, does it exist two-row connectors? - where it could connect also as 2nd device active balancer next BMS on one row in PCB
2. It would be good to have numbers printed on the pcb according to the balancing cable - next to the connectors and next to each fuse
3. With 5A fuses would this pcb board also handle NEEY - 4A Active Smart Balancer?
Well done, great video.
Hey Tibor, thanks for the great feedback. I'll take your wish list in consideration for the V2 board. Keep you posted.
@@easypowerwall Check out the pcbs for battery cell connections from Taranis Energy DIY project components: 4s-8s-16s for 105Ah to 320Ah battery cells.
great video thanks i would be interested in buying the kit thank you .
Hey David, thanks for your message and interest in our product. I'll make a V2 version of the board and will offer it for sale once completed. Keep you posted about the progress via the easypowerwall channel.
Nive job! I like the pcb board solution a lot.
How.can I buy a kit with all? Board + components.
Thank you very much!
Hi, I'm working on an improved version, when ready (I hope to have 1K subs) I will offer it via the YT channel. Good reason to subscribe :-)
Hi Franky, thanks for the interesting video. Where can we purchase the drawings for making the PCB?
Hey Joel, thanks for your message. The drawings for the PCB are available on my shared drive. The link is in the comment section under the video.

😂looks amazing,DIY stuff
Hoi .

Hello,
Is there a site where I can order the PCB? I could have missed it in your documents.
What is the fuse internal resistance, the higher the resistance the more it will drop your balance current.
Fuse IR must be close to 0.
All leads are equally long, so if there's a little drop, it's the same drop over all leads.
So far it's running great for 18 months, minimal balancing when cell hit 3.45V.
Nicely done!
I think it adds value due to safety and looks nice.
Do you sell the pcb as well?
I could not find a link or something else.
Or did I not read something 😅
Hi Erik, there's no link to the PCB yet. (the gerber files are available on the shared drive) Will add an extra connector as some people requested and will offer the PCB, parts and built kit once finished. Keep you posted.
In your parts list I can not find any fuse board . I seen you have your name on your balancing fuse board where can I find the s16 board
Hey,
Under the video you can find a link to my google drive.
There you can download the gerber files to order the PCB from you favorite PCB factory.
I ordered mine from JLCPCB.
If it doesn't work send me another message, try to help you out.

How much to purchase two of the finished fuses protection boards?
Leave me a message if interested.
Are there not any such fuses DC rated?
These fuses are max 250VAC, but they are rated for a current. In this case it's 3A. 3V DV and 4A -> the fuse will blow.

Hmm, someone might think that fuses should come after securing the cells and the connectors. But, what do I know.
That is an disaster waiting to happen!
HI thanks for your feedback. The fuses are in place to connect the leads towards the BMS. 99% of the time the balancer is not active and there's no current. It's additional protection just in case there's an internal problem with the BMS that the fuse can do it's job. If one fuse is blown the BMS will shut down. So it has nothing to do with high current or cell protection.
