35yr solo painter here. you did a fantastic job on the interior! Did everything I would do and your plan moving forward is what I would also do. 1 coat of primer light scuff and 2 coats finish. The exterior painting on the first day was a little rough to watch, but Jordan seemed to get the hang of the sprayer on the inside. I would say, your exterior gun setup had to big of a tip and the spray gun should always be perpendicular to the surface. Never spray past your arm reach if your worried about airborne overspray. Also never let the spray pattern "not hit a surface" like on the corners, because of overspray in the air. To get the areas where it to dangerous to spray, just carry a small roller in a 5gl bucket w/ lid to whip out and roll the edges where the spray might be airborne. I did learn something from you guys. It's when you where touching up the corner boards and dry brushed the blue on the frogtape to seal the white from weeping under the tape, great tip!!
Not spraying perpendicular to the surface is such an easy trap to fall into for less experienced painters. You're thinking I can get another 12 inches down the wall without having to move over if I just angle the gun.
@@JBBBBBBBB250 exterior painting is tough when it comes to overspray. With such a big tip and not having the gun straight at the surface ricochets the paint off the surface and into the air. With a smaller tip, you're able to go slower and control your application much better with less overspray. I think you mentioned in this clip that you did have too big of a tip, which I totally agree with. Now on the inside not spring at a 90° angle, is fine because you don't have to worry about overspray.
Agree, nice job. I didn’t see the spray episode. There is yellow frog tape that wouldn’t have started tearing up the fresh paint like that green did here.
Paul, my brother...I'm in tears!!! You have made me so happy!!! You have finally mastered the Art of Caulk!!! Most excellent job if I do say so myself! No more sticky fingers! Just want to say, probably your best video so far! Great job guys!!! Now...I have mentioned this time and time again, and I'm only going to say it one more time...LOT DRAINAGE. You mentioned getting the gutter and downspouts done soon, you need to find a place for all the water to go. You are quickly approaching demo on the existing house, and that's going to be your last chance to do any grading/stormwater management on your lot. If you don't address it now, all your hard work will be for naught. The entire lot needs to be regraded and subsurface drains put in. Engineering will need to be done, if you haven't already done that. I've looked at the topo for the neighborhood and it's going to be a tricky solution at best. But I have faith you guys can pull it off. Thanks again, and Happy Easter to you and your family!
Thanks my brother!!! Dry those happy tears!!! Definitely an art but I'm getting there 👍 Regarding lot drainage... we've had a company come out and survey. They don't want to do any drainage work until the main house slab is poured for fear of damage to the pipes during foundation work. Sounds like good advice although I've been thinking we could do something before then along the fence line, it's far enough from the main house site where it won't get damaged. Gonna have to do some digging over there soon for the new gas line, maybe do it all at once idk.
@@StudPack as I have said in the past, I'm a retired site and stormwater management inspector, so I'm offering advice from experience. I wasn't missing you guys , i wasn't checking in 3-4 times a day to see if you were here, i didn't check my notifications to see if something was off. I didn't look at google earth to see what you were up to. I wasn't about ready to fly down to Houston and do a drive by. Honest I didn't , well I couldn't afford the plane ticket. glad to see you back.
oh one lesson i have learned is get your primer lightly tinted (like just barely, i like to use a just barely pink. like 1/2 of a normal very very light pink). makes it MUCH easier to see if you missed a spot either covering or when you cover it with paint. (esp on ceilings which tend to be flat white anyway). Any paint store will tint it for free.
I recommend spraying the clear electric meter with 2k clear coat. It’ll never go hazy or yellow, like it would in a couple years. Same for any electrical outlets outdoors with clear covers.
I've talked to numerous electric companies about painting the meters and box and they've all said it's fine as long as you don't touch the clear cover over the actual meter numbers
Whenever you're painting trim with such a small reveal, and in such a contrasting color, it's always better (and far easier) to caulk and paint the trim first, and then cut the wall or siding color into it afterwards. It's much easier to lay a larger brush on a wide flat surface than it is to try and navigate a straight line with a tiny brush on a 1/2 inch trim reveal.
As a painting contractor, I would normally agree. But in this case with lap hardie boards I'd do it differently. I'd start my caulking all the windows, mask all windows (windows only), spray whole house (trim included) then mask the hardie board with one pecie of tape per side. Spray trim color and you're done.
The hay trick reminds me of something our landlord did back in the '90s. The duplex we were renting was white with burgundy trim. While we were there, the landlord needed to repaint the outside. So he looked at the color of the dirt that had splashed up onto the white walls, and bought paint that was that color. So we ended up with "caca brown" (as another tenant described it) with burgundy trim. Not a choice I would have made, but he didn't ask me.

I gotta say the black on top and the blue on the bottom was a choice I never would have made.. but I saw the rendering and it looked amazing. Looking at it standing alone I still don't really love it, but I know when the bigger, more intricate main house is next to it sporting the same combo it will bring a sharp, modern, look to that classic style facade
I really appreciate how you guys share the products and techniques you've been using. After all if you're doing it for your own house it's safe to say you stand by them.
@FJB2020 true.. and a lot of companies that DO pay for youtubers ads are pros at making profit and are not in it to provide a quality product at a good price point for the consumer. Instead it's fancy advertising, luring you in only to find out later that you over paid for the same thing that is available from a smaller company/distributor that dosent advertise at all.
"We're not in the business of posting filler content." You guys are so amazing. That's why your videos are so interesting, no filler and everything you do is primo.
Brushed rolled my entire house 2 coats. Using a sprayer and the cleaning and rinsing of the equipment between stops and coats not to mention the overspray problems all went away. It was a great decision!
It's just like anything else, sometimes one method is best, sometimes the other. I painted 5 massive hotels with a brush and roller and trust me a sprayer would've been much faster but the owner wouldn't allow spraying. It was great roller and brush training for the new employees though that's for sure
What a great job. It's hard not to get OCD about something you take such pride in. One thing I noticed is the back of the building, with the deck, looks more balance than the front. The front white going up to the peak makes it look bigger and heavier than the bottom.
Steady hand. Great idea on the hay to avoid splash up on the paint. 👍🏻 The blue looks amazing. I love how it is coming along. It's just beautiful. Love the tips and trick as well as the tools. Have a Happy Easter!
Awesome job!!!! We always do 2 coats, and sand in between primer and finish coats no matter what , it's what brings out the true color that you picked. Also lay that pva on thicker. It will help all the smooth surface fill in,especially if your using a eggshell or satin finish. That pva can go on pretty thick you'll be thankfull when the sun's shining across those walls lol
When we do the tape trick, instead what we do is we apply a very thin line of caulk once the tape is applied and then paint it. If you paint with the undercolor to let it bleed through to then do your crisp line - as you've found out, it doesn't always work, sometimes you just miss a spot because you didn't wanna oversaturate with your undercolor and your main bleeds past the tape. With caulk, however, it simply can't go under the tape because you've provided a barrier. Does take a bit more tinkering with the tape cause you want it just a millimeter off the line and a TINY line of caulk that goes onto the tape.
You picked outstanding colors that look Great together. I am a fan of 2 coats of drywall primer as the first coat gets absorbed into the drywall and the second coat seals it all for top coat.
Video are always great and worth the wait. We're all huge fans and would watch the paint dry with y'all. It looks sick and the colors fit that neighborhood.
We did porcelain tile once in a bathroom reno. The final product looked great. However, the porcelain proved to be much more difficult to cut vs. ceramic tile. Just a heads up. The progress is looking awesome, btw!
This is why I love watching you guys do this work, I’m learning about all the details that it takes to fix or build ( I work at a lumber yard and am trying to build my product knowledge ). Appreciate all your information and love that you guys get to do that with each other 🎉👠

14:56 - I saw Buster! For the second time! I know y'all said he's in a bunch of videos, but somehow I missed him all those times. Thanks for pointing him out again! Go Buster! Nice work as usual, gents, and the exterior looks like fire! Gorgeous! I'll be following this build to the last bloodied knuckle end!
Good to see Buster keeping an eye on things. I'm curious to see if you can keep tree in front of the house. It looks healthy on the vids and apparently likes the water.
Looks GREAT, guys! From the ground up, you’ve done an awesome job and meticulous work. That cathedral ceiling almost took me to church. When customizing time comes, Jordan’s gonna play hell gettin’ mirrors up there. Thanks for taking me along on the journey. 😊👍
Jordan, you are so blessed. You are getting to do something that most, not some, people don’t get the privilege to own/build your own home and get to do it with your dad and brother in-law. What an amazing thing. Just think you will have all this preserved for you to show your kids. Awesome job and keep up the good work.
I know you put the hay down on the soil to help prevent the mud splashing up on the house. Check out horse stall bedding to cover the mud up. It's compressed pine shavings that will break down into saw dust and you don't have to clean up the hay before you finish your yard
Loving this series, I've been watching you guys long before this, brilliant to see father & son team, passing on so many skills. the only tip I can offer as a professional decorator is when caulking try to move a bit faster, same goes for cut in's with the brush. I know it can be scary but it makes for a straighter line and more uniform caulking.
Glad to see you spraying primer on the raw drywall. It is the step that most people skip. The primer makes it easier to see the imperfections and you can put additional topping on the primer.
Love that you guys learned how to roll the paint. I'm usually yelling stop scrubbing the paint at the screen. Check your walls for more imperfections after the primer dries. Light sanding is good. Makes the Top Coat Look rich. 2 coats of top coat. Sprayed then back rolled. Get the Good S/W washable stuff. That Place is going to be Gorgeous.
It needs a Giant Black Metal Texas Star with the circle up in the Big White Area above the 3 front Windows to break up the white area under the roof eaves lol. It'll add contrast and pop because it's 3d and matches the black trims.
Use some clear caulk on the frog tape to seal any low spots and paint doesn’t get behind the tape and since it’s clear caulk if it gets behind the tape it’s gonna dry clear and you won’t see it and gives you crisp lines
Looks incredible guys!! What a blessing it is that you and dad are able to work together on a long term home for you. Can't wait for the main house build - the garage is already the best looking structure on the block!
Your strategy on video production is great! There is a reason y’all are so connected with your audience, we appreciate the quality of the content. Thanks for sparing us the filler videos that so many others feel pressured to produce.
Hello Lads from down-under, great work and excellent craftsmanship across this build. There are some many minor differences in approach and building code between here and there but a great many cool tricks to learn from you guys. great stuff, thanks for taking the time and showing quality content.
1 primer 2 finish… back rolling is always a great idea other then pushing the paint into the surface. It catches runs and drips which are inevitable while spraying, and also adds a roller texture to the surface for future touch ups. It’s impossible to touch up a sprayed surface in the future.
Looking great! I’ve been wondering about the garage doors - not just to complete things but also to secure your tools nd other gear. You could have made a video just going and reviewing garage door options. Can’t wait to see them go on!
Looks great guys. I know there were some comments about the white, but it really fits in with the neighborhood. There’re some big white houses on that block.
Another brilliant video guys. your right it has been a while since your last one and every one brings in more funds to add to the build account. Just post as often as you can guys, I'm sure we'll all be happy with that. But I feel sure you'll be in your new apartment by July. And that tile, I think it's for the bathroom floor. Thanks for sharing with us all.
It's looking great. Love seeing some of the finishing touches. Now I see why the property was such a good deal. It looks like you're going to have yourself a bit of a white elephant situation, where this is going to be the biggest, nicest house in the neighborhood. Good thing you're building it yourself, and doing most of the work. Otherwise, you could have been in a not so good investment situation. But, what matters is that you're happy with it.
Whenever I painted drywall I always went from mud to mud and never stopped on a board with the primer. I also never sprayed indoors. It's faster and uses less paint just to cut and roll it. Looks great!!
Wow. Just absolutely stunning. What a transformation the blue has made to the entire garage. The interior is looking incredible even with just a partial primer coat. Seconding everyone else, please take your time and post when YOU feel ready. We are here for the quality content that you, your dad, and Rad have to offer. It's totally understandable that weather, time, and task restraints cause shifts in your video timings. I don't care, I'm just always happy to see your incredible family doing incredible things. Keep up the fantastic work and as always, I'll be patiently but excitedly waiting for the next video!
man that scaffolding sure has paid for itself and some. i always love watching yall guys videos keep up the good work cant wait to see with the garage doors up
Tip for the painters tape, always run a damp sponge or rag along the tape to avoid bleeding and get the sharpest lines! Great job guys things are coming along over there!
This is after the tape is put up, but before painting? Wouldn't the moisture under the paint, for the side not taped but still got the damp sponge run against it, make the paint bubble over time?
Next time you install a vent (dryer, air exchange, bathroom, etc.) go pick up the premium vent from Lowes. It's pre-finished metal so it's much more durable but its best feature is that it's magnetic - a magnet ensures a tight seal for the vent when not in operation, plus it looks way cleaner.
Been following you guys for a few years now. It’s really nice to see the exterior complete. I can’t wait to see the deck finished and the garage doors installed with all of the accessories. By far my favorite channel on RUclips.
The paint looks awesome! I wasn't sure about the colors but, it looks great! Just like the rendering! When you do your drywall touch up, put a little color in your mud ( I used chalk from my chalk line or food color) and use your light to find all the stuff you want to fix. The colored mud will be easier to see after it dries so you can sand those spots without having to sand everything again. Also, a little goes a long way, so don't use too much or it could show through.
I recently have been using frog tape and a light pass with clear caulk on the edge and painting over that and then removing the tape while everything is wet...super sharp lines.
Hey Guys... Looking Rad... Fantastic results... Please please please put those interior upstairs access panels back and get them to swing UPWARDS.... Keep Up The Good Work... Lovin it...
WOW! Those above roof outdoor shoots look fantastic. In Australia, shingles are very rarely used, but, boy, they look great on your garage. Wonderful series. If it has been a year since you started, then that is fine. It doesn't feel that it has been that long and I am sure, that like others, I can not wait for the main house build to start.
Great job. A couple thoughts... You can get a roller that attaches to your airless sprayer. You just hit the trigger when the roller starts to get dry. When you start on the drywall, shine bright lights down the wall. All the imperfections will show so you can fix them early...versus noticing them after the final coat. Painting the frog tape is a cool trick...it also works when changing color on textured drywall...especially if you have rounded corners.
Wow looks great with the exterior paint on, excellent job guys, think of all the progress, remember digging up the dirt and then mud for the foundation 😂 you’ve come so far already, can’t wait to see the rest
Nice work! Been watching from Northeastern Pennsylvania from the beginning of this build. Appreciate the comment at the end. It’s always nice to take time to admire a job well done, and that’s what you have here! Congrats!!!
I keep saying this. That roof looks fantastic! Now I’m focused on that tree in front of your existing house. I hope you’re able to keep it, Landscaping with mature trees is pricey! Really looks great Guys!
The water oak is not healthy, an arborist has looked at it. The magnolia near it was severely damaged by a freeze. They both have to go but we've already been to a nearby tree nursery to look at some mature trees to plant after completion

@@FJB2020we don’t use it if we don’t like it!
I used to spray then roll. But not on windy days. lol
Leave the sprayer for the pros
It's just like anything else, sometimes one method is best, sometimes the other. I painted 5 massive hotels with a brush and roller and trust me a sprayer would've been much faster but the owner wouldn't allow spraying. It was great roller and brush training for the new employees though that's for sure
What a great job. It's hard not to get OCD about something you take such pride in. One thing I noticed is the back of the building, with the deck, looks more balance than the front. The front white going up to the peak makes it look bigger and heavier than the bottom.
@26:46 it does look "great"! In fact, it looks so 'solid' as to appear as a digital image, it's so defined and clean.
Steady hand. Great idea on the hay to avoid splash up on the paint. 👍🏻 The blue looks amazing. I love how it is coming along. It's just beautiful. Love the tips and trick as well as the tools. Have a Happy Easter!
26:42 Don't worry about the second coat of primer. Sand that coat of primer good and then do two coats of your top coat.
That would work great, I use gardz for that cause I always have some around and it works really good for this also.
I like the big bold color choices. It looks fantastic. And today when everything is 18 different shades of beige it's really stands out.
You picked outstanding colors that look Great together. I am a fan of 2 coats of drywall primer as the first coat gets absorbed into the drywall and the second coat seals it all for top coat.
The apartment is huge, you can park a small plane in there.
Awsome building, looks fantastic!!
As usual nice work, the paint is like the icing on the cake, keep up the good work!
Video are always great and worth the wait. We're all huge fans and would watch the paint dry with y'all. It looks sick and the colors fit that neighborhood.
Love the blue on the outside. What a difference a painting job makes. Love the progress so far.
Three words on the paint "Crisp and Clean". You guys are a joy to watch!
💙the blue color. Very sharp with the top color.
We did porcelain tile once in a bathroom reno. The final product looked great. However, the porcelain proved to be much more difficult to cut vs. ceramic tile. Just a heads up. The progress is looking awesome, btw!
yeah cutting porcelain panels is not DIY. The panels are over 5 x 10 feet. Crew is coming from Dallas for the install stay tuned!!!!
This is why I love watching you guys do this work, I’m learning about all the details that it takes to fix or build ( I work at a lumber yard and am trying to build my product knowledge ). Appreciate all your information and love that you guys get to do that with each other 🎉👠
Thanks 👍
OMG, it's GORGEOUS!!! You guys should be so proud of yourselves. It's stunning.
I love your fan club camped out across the street!!! 😂😂
And a bunch of people have said it... Don't stress about the gaps in videos. We love you, we'll be here when you post next ❤❤❤
Durham's water putty is awesome. Stays good forever too.
Been using Durham's for decades...it's the shiznit!
Gorgeous!!!! We finally get to see the vision come to life! I love that blue color (recently painted my guest bedroom that color). Can't wait to see all the interior finishes, the light installation, the bathroom and kitchen....I wish Paul was MY dad!!!! 😂
Thanks for not posting filler content and doing an annoying title sequence. I love the fact that when you post a video there is something to see that I don’t want to miss!
17:02 Even the woodpecker in the background approves. 👍
I hope he is allergic to Hardie board!
Funny you say that, woodpeckers around here are insane!!! All day with the pecking!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely PERFECT ouotside & in!!!! you guys are working SO HARD....you deserve to have the perfection you are striving for!!! OUTSTANDING. Your neighbor must hate you for blocking the sun with your behemoth of a building!!!
If you put tape on it then run a little bit of caulk down it with the tape on it when you pull the tape it leaves good straight line
Looks GREAT, guys! From the ground up, you’ve done an awesome job and meticulous work. That cathedral ceiling almost took me to church. When customizing time comes, Jordan’s gonna play hell gettin’ mirrors up there. Thanks for taking me along on the journey. 😊👍
What a great way 2 go at that tape. I feel like a dummy for never thinking of going at it that way. Awesome!
Jordan, you are so blessed. You are getting to do something that most, not some, people don’t get the privilege to own/build your own home and get to do it with your dad and brother in-law. What an amazing thing. Just think you will have all this preserved for you to show your kids.
Awesome job and keep up the good work.
Love that new style that Paul is wearing. Two pair of sunglasses on your hat. I will have to buy another pair.
Use a chalking too. I do shower remodels so I chaulk corners and curbs all the time . Popsicle stick and damp rags makes very clean chaulk joint
Use some clear caulk on the frog tape to seal any low spots and paint doesn’t get behind the tape and since it’s clear caulk if it gets behind the tape it’s gonna dry clear and you won’t see it and gives you crisp lines
great sound commentary on the tape removal! 🙂
Looks incredible guys!! What a blessing it is that you and dad are able to work together on a long term home for you. Can't wait for the main house build - the garage is already the best looking structure on the block!
26:50 WOW. I'm so jealous. GREAT JOB!!
Always 2 top coat, probably 1 primer. The exteriorlooks AWESOME!😊
Thanks 👍
1 primer 2 finish… back rolling is always a great idea other then pushing the paint into the surface. It catches runs and drips which are inevitable while spraying, and also adds a roller texture to the surface for future touch ups. It’s impossible to touch up a sprayed surface in the future.
Looking great! I’ve been wondering about the garage doors - not just to complete things but also to secure your tools nd other gear. You could have made a video just going and reviewing garage door options. Can’t wait to see them go on!
Love the fact you don't skimp on details. The end results looks a million time better. Love the colour combo. Looks awesome.
Proud of you guy's. Looks fricking great!
We used to use a roller that had the sprayer built into it… made the jobs a lot faster.
What's nice is to see family and friends working and having fun together.
Garage looks better than most homes. Great job guys. I love the east the blue pops
Graco makes a pressure roller and extension for the pump you guys have.
Keep up the fantastic work and as always, I'll be patiently but excitedly waiting for the next video!
man that scaffolding sure has paid for itself and some. i always love watching yall guys videos keep up the good work cant wait to see with the garage doors up
Thanks 👍
Exterior is so VERY HANDSOME! Colors selected are magnificent.
What does adding water to the tape do?
Apply your tape
Damp sponge or rag (you can dry as you go or wait it out)
Apply paint
Peel tape
@@zohebthayer it’ll help flatten the tape as you press along it and activate adhesive
@@MysteriazHD does this work similar to caulking the tape? Thanks for the tip.
You’ll need the scaffolding for the gutters too! Unless you’re subcontracting the install.
Looks great and don’t worry about the timing of the videos. Just happy to watch more of your content and adventures
"More of that Rad guy with his shirt off please"...... Said my wife over my shoulder. 😮
I think all 137 genders can admit that he’s easy on the eyes 😂
Wow looks great with the exterior paint on, excellent job guys, think of all the progress, remember digging up the dirt and then mud for the foundation 😂 you’ve come so far already, can’t wait to see the rest
that blue looks amazing after the second coat....well done!
Nice work! Been watching from Northeastern Pennsylvania from
the beginning of this build. Appreciate the comment at the end. It’s always nice to take time to admire a job well done, and that’s what you have here! Congrats!!!
Love when paint goes on because it really changes the look and makes you feel good inside, love the colours.
It will be truly interesting to see the complete garage and house build. The garage is just so much more larger than house
@@StudPackthat’s too bad. At least you’ll have the heavy machines to take them out during the house demo.
On the caulking technique, I like the look of pulling with a pass of the finger. You can see what you are doing and the finger gives a smoother look.
Looking awesome guys I wish my dad was still around we used to do projects together all the time.
