How, using your technique, do you achieve an even surface. I find even with careful brush strokes or using a lint free cloth there are still lines or unevenness on the dried varnish.
I was going to ask the same question
I finally resorted to a spray and got even coats.
I really do find that using the circular motion with water down varnish that you can avoid any marks. I’ve had success with it.
Thanks for this! Two questions. Do you always water down the varnish? Do you get threads or lint from the socks?
Great questions, I do always water down my Liquitex varnish, unless I’m floating the high gloss on top of a painting. Just be sure that the socks don’t have any lint. Nylon is a great way to go.
Thanks so much Sara- you guide us from start to finish. I’m so grateful for these tutorials. ❤
I’m itching to get started, but just getting supplies turns into a small fortune!! What if I stink at this as a newbie? 😂 My carts are well over $1,000 easy!
Such useful information about resin for us less experienced. Do you know what the socks are made of? I can't imagine being able to make it work! Thank you v much. 😊
Thank you so much very informative information
...may not cover, or skip large areas of coverage, sorry.
I use the isolation coat but curious if you apply it the same way you do the varnish on large pieces. I always feel like I'm brushing like a mad woman on the larger pieces. Lol
Good question! I do just brush it on the same way I would a varnish.👍
Sara! I am so grateful for artists like you that share tips and tricks like this! Thank you for sharing that you mix the Liquitex with water and that you use socks instead of a brush! I had a 36x36 to varnish and was dreading it until I saw your video! It worked like a charm, so thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! ❤❤❤
You are so welcome!❤️😊
30/10/23 Hi Sarah thank you for sharing your experience with varnish. Do you use an isolation coat with permanent liquitex varnish? They state that it can’t be removed or is that only if you don’t use an isolation coat first. I’m very confused as everyone says different things😬many thanks Anne
Great question, the permanent Liquitex varnish cannot be removed, without disturbing the acrylic paint unless you use the isolation coat.
Excellent!!! Thank you!!! ??? Do you also water down the Isolation coat? - I hope you are having a fabulous time at the retreat!! Hopefully I'll be able to go next year.
I’m glad it was helpful! I do not want it on the isolation coat, just use a nice thin later.
Sara: Thanks for making this video. I found it to be most helpful. I do have a question for you though. On the bottle of the Liquitex varnish, it states not to thin with water. I am so curious as to how you get good coverage with the High Gloss finish if it is so thin? I want to try your technique but am just a bit concerned that it may not cover, of skip stops of coverage. I live in Florida and wonder it the outcome will be different. Or perhaps if my husband sprays it, we have good luck. Your thoughts?
I’m not sure why they tell you not to come with water, it’s a water based product, so it does not change the integrity. This is how I had a little slow getting a smooth and even coverage. You can build up the layers one at a time after each layer dries. Spring Watters is also very good!
Excellent information Sara. I don't use Resin on my paintings, but so many people do and who would have guessed that it will yellow? I know some artists who sell a lot of their work and the resin every piece. Bummer! Well, I'm so glad you put this information out there and I got a lot of info. from all of the products you showed and your method of varnishing is definitely something I will do. Thank you so much.
Yes, I wish it was more widely known that epoxy does yellow overtime. It’s OK to put it on a darker painting, but if there’s white, it will eventually show a bit of yellow, especially if it’s exposed to lots of UV.
Thank you for the informative video! The painting you varnished was gorgeous! Did I see that correctly? You mixed water with your varnish?
Yes, correct 👍
Thank you very much for all the good lessons. There was a lot of knowledge here that I didn't know about. Super happy that you take the time for us who lack knowledge.
My pleasure!
Thanks so much Sarah. I had some trouble with the liqitex applying it too thick. Ended up getting some spray. Must have a go with it watered down.😉 Very interesting about the isolation coat. I'm trying to get ready to start selling some paintings so thanks again!
You are so welcome!
Thanks for this video, all great information, most of which was new to me!!!🙌🏻😇
Glad it was helpful!
How often do you use satin vs. gloss, high gloss & resin? What’s your most desired?
I usually use a Liquitex satin.
You're most likely using a nylon sock not cotton right
These were cotton.👍
Thank you for always sharing some great information Sara. I'm so grateful!!♥♥
Thanks Sara! This is super helpful!
I'm so glad!
Thank you so much for the tips. 🙏❤️
WOW! THIS IS SUCH IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW! Here I've been thinking I've been missing out on not using resin on my paintings. I used to use the polycrylic too. But, I had some disasters with it, even though I applied it the same way every time. Thankfully Chris J turned me onto Liquitex. I varnish the same way you do, minus your adorable sock hands😁! The isolation coat is always a good idea like you said. I love this piece! Please show us a picture of it all varnished before you send it to its new home. I'm so excited for you! Your retreat is going to be wonderful! Thanks again for this very important video! This is the kind of info that we need to know to avoid the heartbreak your friend went through! 😊🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I’m so glad you found informative! Maybe you can come to my next retreat!?❤️🙏
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information with us. I know your retreat will be fabulous. Can't wait to see your future experiments you mentioned.
Thank you so much!
Thanks Sarah. Great information.
Thank you. For all your knowledge I learn a lot. Thank you again. God bless you.
You are so welcome
Thank you for sharing all of your info, very generous!! Best to you.
Thank you! You too!
OMG I can’t thank you enough for doing this one today! I have three 20 by 40 works to varnish. My company commissioned me to do them for the corporate office. So I want it to be extra awesome 😅 you are the best!
Wonderful!
@@SaraTaylor aaaaand it totally worked! They came out lovey with no streaks! I did a coat of gloss and two satin. Your dilution and sock trick is magic lady 🤗🙌💚✌️🎨
All the best with your retreat!
Great tutorial! Love it ! 💕💕🐷
Thank you! 😊. You rock woman!! ❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏
I never knew that you could dilute Liquitex varnish! And, the glove and sock trick is genius! Thanks for the info. 🩷
