We were wondering about these. Thanks for taking the time to do this test.

Get that fuel tablet closer to the bottom of the pot, 2 fuel tabs 1 after the other will boil 2 cups of water. Thank you for sharing👍

My exclusive trail cooking kit is an Esbit titanium tri-wing stove and a homemade titanium foil windscreen. I prefer Coughlin's tablets because they're cheaper. 2 Coughlin's tablets weigh the same as 1 standard Esbit or Bleuet 14g tablets.
I don't understand the results of your test. 2 Coughlin's tabs have never failed to bring 2 cups of water to a boil. I do use a windscreen even with no wind because it reflects a lot of wasted heat back into the pot. Also, I stand the tablets on their sides to provide more surface area for combustion.
I think one major difference might be the pot. I use what I call "The Ultralighter's Dream Pot." It's the Evernew 500 ml. Titanium mug/pot. With 2 cups of water in it there is no more space. With the pot you used it looks like there's a lot of extra space for heat to escape. You were trying to heat 500 ml. of water and 500 ml. of air. With my pot I'm heating water and virtually no air.

I would guess it's the distance from the tablets to the bottom of the pot. Ive seen reviews using the coghlan's emergency stove with the tabs and boil achieved with 2.

The pot used in this video is too narrow. you can clearly see all the flames raising up on the sides letting all the heat escape.

Good video and review you did. I bought the Esbit cookset (three piece) and had to use two tablets to get my water to boil. I did not like how far the tablets sat from the post. I cut a small can and elevated them to about half inch and that works great, of course always need your wind screen.

Fuel tablets always have a hard time boiling water due to a number of reasons. Are use the esbit solid fuel tablets and always get a boil no matter how cold it is because I enclose it in a teeny can when screen enclosure made in a fireplace chimney fashion that has a side hole in the bottom side and open a new top that covers the burner and 99% of the pot. I also have a lid on the pot and painted the part with black rust tall Liam flame resistant paint. Good video. Good test. God bless you.

I have many pots, and a similar stove (the Bushcraft Essentials Outdoor Pocket Micro Stove EDCBox). I also have the same Stanley pot and what I've found is that a wider pot with more surface area works much better with less fuel. Think the MSR Titan (850 ml) pot. Beer can pots and this Stanley, which is a tall, narrow pot with little surface area and a slightly tapered bottom (meaning the bottom disk is smaller than the diameter of the pot thanks to a slight tapered bottom half inch of the pot) doesn't warm up fast. I like the pot... durable, strong, sturdy, but not conducive to fast boil times; it's not the best choice for backpacking. I can get a pint of water boiling with two Coghlan's tablets under most conditions (windscreen, moderate temperatures, dry fuel tablets, wide pot). Like Esbit and other solid fuels, they do produce some soot, though less than many other fuel sources. It's economical fuel, but not as economical as liquid methanol (denatured alcohol) and some other choices. I use it as my third backup (alcohol stove, followed by wood fuel, followed by solid hexamine... that said, hexamine makes a great firestarter if you don't need it for cooking). I do think your review pointed out some real cons of this fuel source and I'm glad you posted it, but I'd recommend a retry with the same fuel (two tabs) and a wider pot.

Maybe 1 cup water and 1 tablet at a time? Also maybe a thinner pot ?

Good to know, 3 tabs Coghlan's fuel equal boiling water Thanks for the review.

Maybe it would be more efficient with a larger diameter pan.

USE A LITTLE COMMON SENSE.......PUT A LITTLE PIECE OF FOILD DOWN AND IT'LL KEEP YOUR STOVE CLEAN

Hay news flash...you need to raise up your fuel tabs ..use a small cap 1-1 1/4 inches to bottom of pot.

That’s strange. I used two at the same time to boil about two cups of water. It did it in 8 minutes and no residue. These have worked for me on test and out on hikes. Always use two.

Strange I use 3 tabs and boil 4 cups of water, the only difference I see is my pots wider
