It was such a senseless, needless and completely unnecessary coup that truncated Nigeria's march to greatness. Those young men were so misguided, foolish, selfish but above all ethnic bigots who sowed the very seed of today's unbridled tribalism in Nigeria.

Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa was a remarkable leader who exemplified humility and dedication to his country. He lived a modest life, with no foreign bank accounts or lavish mansions to his name. In fact, he was known to buy everyday items like beverages and provisions on credit, only paying for them when he received his salary.
Balewa's commitment to Nigeria was unwavering, and he served the country with unshakeable passion and integrity. His leadership style was characterized by simplicity, honesty, and a genuine desire to uplift his people. He was a true patriot who put the interests of Nigeria above his own personal gain.
As a leader, Balewa's legacy continues to inspire generations of Nigerians. His selflessness, humility, and dedication to public service are qualities that are sadly rare in today's political landscape. He remains one of Nigeria's most beloved and respected leaders, and his memory continues to be celebrated and honored by the nation.
It's quite unfortunate history as a subject is no longer allowed in our primary and secondary schools.

@@adewumibusayo3187 it wasn't labelled, it was Igbo coup. All coup plotters were Igbo except one vagabond Yoruba officer. All Yoruba and Hausa leaders were killed and Igbo leaders were spared. What other evidence do we need to know the motive behind the coup.

@@kingsleyikenna1894 It was an igbo coup ! No single igbo army officer or politician was killed in fact, the plotters were allegedly has forewarned the then ceremonial president Nnamdi Azikwe to travel to London before they struck!
Notable powerful leading Northern politicians including the Premier of the Northern Region Sir Amadu Bello were brutally killed . Powerful Yoruba politicians including the premier of the western region Chief Ladoke Akintola were brutally gunned down as well as top ranking Army officers from both Regions. No single igbo politician or army officer was killed!
