I've been organizing my tackle and baits this winter to get a better handle on what I actually have. I found a few packages of these Bobby Garland Baby Shads and don't think I ever fished them because I have always used the Crappie Magnets in the past and they have always produced good results for me. Everyone swears by these baby shads so since we had some warmer weather this past week here in N.C. I went our to do some crappie fishing yesterday, 1-28-2024 and gave them a try. I caught 4 nice slab crappies all between11 - 12 inches and surprisingly also caught 4 solid bass at a runoff from one pond to another (after really heavy rains the night before) on this bait on my ultralight rod. One 14 incher, one 15 incher, one 16 incher and the biggest at 18-1/2 inches. WOW!!! I guess I will be keeping these in the tackle bag from now on.
Good stuff...I love ultralight fishing! About this time last year, I made a similar trip on a small creek here in S. Alabama...a little bigger than this one, but not much. Anyway, I came upon a couple guys who had camped the night before on the creek, and just a couple minutes before I got there, one of them had caught a 7 or 8 pound bass out of a little hole like some of those you're fishing! I couldn't believe it, but the fish was still alive when I saw it! My takeaway was to keep in mind that not all of them are tiny little dinkers...dinkers come from somewhere! Stay Safe!
nice
Thanks
