Amazing Tribute Tony. In my eyes, he may not been as big as the legendary Hayao Miyazaki himself but knowing he worked with him & founded Studio Ghibli together. And his most prolific films such as Grave of the Fireflies & Tale of Princess Kaguya will live on forever.
Studio Ghibli was and still is a big part of my childhood, his death means that a part of Ghibli is now lost, Grave of the fireflies will forever be one of my favourite movies and we all will forever remember the impact you had in animation. Rest in peace Mr Takahata.
"Like it or not, a caterpillar must first live as a chrysalis before becoming a butterfly. Maybe I remember those days because I am going through a chrysalis stage." ---Isao Takahata
RIP Takahata. You definitely changed the anime industry forever for the better and with your movies you always challenged your audience to dig deeper and realise the true magic of storytelling. You will be missed
Never will such an impactful figure in Japanese animation on the same level as Tezuka, Miyazaki, or Kon be forgotten. This man found ways to turn reality into fantasy with such raw emotions and genuine characters, whether it be two kids trying to survive in Japan during the end of WWII, a young woman reminiscing back to her childhood, or a princess from the moon growing up with a bamboo cutter family whilst being raised in a palace. For his contributions to animation, Isao Takahata will forever be remembered as one of the most iconic Japanese animation directors the world has ever known. Farewell Takahata, may your films progress in their legacies for years on out.
I could feel that you really liked his works. Tbh, his death is heartbreaking for me. His works influenced me a lot in this lifetime, as well. I guess you'll never ever be ready if someone dear to you just disappear forever. May he rest in peace. His legacy will not be forgotten. Thank you so much for the tribute. It eased me some of the pain.
I don’t know how to express this but there are 2 words that I wanted to tell him, which is “Thank You”. I may never met him in person. I’ve always believed that Isao Takahata is a very great person because the movies it reflected on him. Those movies, I’ve watched all of them, but I bet I can’t watch those movies again without feeling nostalgic ever since I’ve found out that he is dead. It hurts but we must accept it. He deserves rest after all the masterpieces he made. I hope that they will create a movie regarding to Isao Takahata’s life as thanks for his hardwork and everything... R.I.P Isao Takahata 😢
This director made the first movie in but actually made me cry when I was a cynical kid With grave of the fireflies. Then made me cry again with Princess Kaguya as teen, and finally with Pom Poko showed me to find some for my happiness through tough time.RIP For the people that haven’t seen his movies and might be interested now. You’re so lucky because you get to experience a master at work with fresh eyes.
Definetly watching Tale of Princess Kaguya in honor of him tonight. Rest in peace Mr Takahata, you were a staple in the anime industry and you were a huge tallent in the community. You will be deeply missed for years to come.
today is the last day of my spring break and I was thinking of studio ghibli and looked it up and saw this......at this point I'm not afraid of death but I am more afraid of my inspirations dying :( off to college next year and I can't bear my inspirations passing away. Rest in peace Isao
Thanks for this beautiful tribute and thanks to Takahata-sensei for all the moments of Beauty and Wonder he gave us in all these years. I grew up with his series in the 70s and I'm still enjoying his masterpieces. Sad day. :(
I am heartbroken over this. He is my favorite filmmaker of all time, and I can't begin to express how much his movies mean to me and have effected my life. It's a shame that he never gained the recognition he truly deserved, but he did leave a lasting legacy in the industry and will for years to come through his work. Rest in peace, Isao.
I think I've seen all the movies he directed now. Though My Neighbors The Yamadas wasn't as strong as I thought it would be, it was just a series of family episodes. Though I related strongly to Only Yesterday and Pom Poko was very interesting and well done. What I couldn't stop going on about though was the tanuki ball sacks. XD
Isao Takahata was the greatest inspirational director who have directed many Studio Ghibli movies, including Grave of the Fireflies and Only Yesterday. The Tale of The Princess Kaguya was he last film.
@@coc_champs are you sure, that is a belgian francois movie co produced also by ghibli but the man was mr. suzuki, how could takahata being just only an executive producer when strongly ill ?
To Isao, may you rest in peace. You were taken from us too soon. May you and your legacy never be forgotten. I promise that I, once I have children, will show your films to my children.
Currently watching Only Yesterday. Just can't get over the feeling that he's actually gone. The music and the visuals are so beautifully made that it's so heartbreaking to watch... ;C RIP from Denmark.
Such a beautiful animation, and yet I can't watch "Grave of the Fireflies" a second time. it's so painful and poignant in describing the human condition.
I agree. As beautifully animated as it is. Takahata made sure that the film would be more than memorable with its art and storytelling. Miyazaki's last film, "The Boy and the Heron", pays many homages to his deceased partner. Especially noteworthy are the scenes of the firebombing of Tokyo drawn very much like the very painful scene in "Grave of the Fireflies".
I didn't watch much Studio Ghibli films, but it is still very sad that Takahata passed away. His date of death was actually my birthday. He will really be missed. R.I.P. Isao Takahata 1935-2018

Just watched grave of the fireflies in his memory. I cried so much. Thank you takahata .thank you for all sweet & sad moments that you gave us. Rest in peace
Ich wünsche, dass Waffen aus der ganzen Welt verschwinden. “Grave of the Fireflies” is the most sad movie I , who was born in the year of the Tokyo Olympic Games, have ever seen. Every time I saw it, tears flowed like a waterfall. From the first scene that Seita starts talking I can't stop crying. There is a famous song called 'Children Who Don't Know War' that was released in 1970. In Japan there is peace education, in other words education against war, at elementary and junior high schools every year through Japanese lessons, moral education and so on. Just recently American high school students were at the forefront appealing for strengthening gun control. I myself belong to a generation that does not know war, but every time something terrible happens I wish that weapons including nuclear weapons should disappear from all over the world. I'm sure I am not the only one to think like that. I would like a lot of people to watch this Takahata's "Grave of the Fireflies". We pray that his soul may rest in peace.

What?! Dammit that man made my childhood! Well, now that he's passed on, I'm sure he's making movies for the angels in the sky.

The cause of Isao Takahata's death: Lung Cancer. Most of the film directed by Isao Takahata are underrated. I watched Only Yesterday and Pom Poko.
I wish I could live in one of his animations forever.
If I could it would be in, "The Tale of Princess Kaguya".
It is like a "living" artistic masterpiece and every scene is worthy of framing.
