This, very much. I have a newfound appreciation for mechanics who are working under vehicles after trying to install some step-rails on my truck for the first time ever. Just laying back and lifting your arms up holding a heavy duty 3/4" ratchet while trying to bolt things in was more strenuous on my body than I ever thought it could be.

1:10 Lower back muscle activation is one of the worst parts of lifting loads from the floor or lowering them onto a pallet. It's fine if you're only doing it for an hour or two, but if you're doing that for 12 hours, 4 days a week, you've got yourself a significant problem. It over trains your lumbar spine and causes what is known in the bodybuilding world as "a pump", which is basically when blood saturates the muscle and makes it temporarily larger than it normally is (which is fine for most muscles, but not ok for the lumbar spine). This just gets worse and worse throughout the day and impairs your ability to work safely because it puts your spine out of alignment and everything feels tight, increasing your risk of spinal injury, compared to just doing it for an hour or two. People can say "practice good technique then" all they want but those people have never worked as an agency worker in a fast paced factory, where the factory can just replace the worker in one shift if the worker gets an injury. Some of these factories' owners don't care at all whether someone gets an injury, they are just replaceable agency workers in their eyes. **Edit** They allocate their agency workers according to how much one person is physically capable of doing rather than what a worker is capable of doing safely. They hire fewer workers than is actually needed for those workers to work in a safe manner. Time is an issue and you don't have enough time to perform the lifts safely because there aren't enough workers to take up the slack when you're fatiguing, so they just have to work on, regardless of the pain and increased risk of injury. A 66% reduction of lower back muscle activation is highly significant and would certainly see fewer injuries and fewer agency workers being left sat at home with a bad back and no income. When the price of these suits comes down, If I had the power to enforce such a rule, I would make it mandatory to provide these suits to all agency workers that work lifting or lowering loads repeatedly, if they wish to wear one.

Thank you for putting something on that wasn't a waste of time today!
glad i found this video. This kind of gear would be GREAT for people who get tired standing for hours on an assembly line. Especially that leg support / chair. I used to work retail clerk on my feet for 8 hours walking and standing. would have been nice to have leg hip support device to relieve the strain on my feet. since the device would handle most of the body weight as i stood. Would love to see if similar devices are out there there for just standing and walking all day. I'd bet people who stand 8 hrs or more on their feet would also feel the same. here's to the future! cheers!
Karate Master: We train for years mastering the horse stance so our legs can maintain a strong and stable position for hours. Me in an Exoskeleton: Hold my tea.
Considering the average gym goer can easily deadlift 315-405 pounds after training for like 6 months, yea 50 pounds is pretty pathetic. Any person who does any kind of exercise in their life shouldnt have any trouble lifting that
Imagine some big rock or debri falls on someone and they have the exo skeleton on so it saves them and they catch it no problem and then all u see on the news is “man saved by exo suit, THE FUTURE IS NOW”
I can imagine how much the guys at work would make fun of me for wearing this. "that thing gonna help ya lift ya purse?" " can ya put ya dress on ova that thing?"
The idea is great, especially for people with bad backs or weakness. But I think bosses will start to expect more from workers because of their new capacity.
can i take a nap in this while my body is working? just kidding i know a exoskeleton does not work like this. while watching this i felt like i would live in the year 3000. wow.
Great video, but that exoskeleton is heavily overpriced. There are no actuators or complex electronics. It's made of metal sticks and springs, so these prices are crazy.
Not really... they're not looking to sell these things to individuals. They're looking to sell them to companies as industrial tools. Especially when you factor in all the r&d as well as the sheer ip value, these are pretty cheap. It's not like these guys are a charity. But in any case none of that matters, because if this is the price that companies are willing to pay for this product, then it's not overpriced. & if companies won't pay these prices, then the price will come down, or they will go out of business. Simple as that.
Really cool and utterly feasible for commercial use in the next few years. The millitary might tango with it slightly but I feel that Boston Dynamics is gonna win that battle with their robots. The first nation with a full robotic infantry will dominate. We're way of that yet though.

Yeah this is the future, and it's here. 2 - 5 years and we will have found a way to manufacture these like we do with cars. drasticlly lowering the cost ^^ 50 Dollars might be stretch but i dont see why these coudent cost 200 dollars. and maybe 1000 for the top of the line ones.
(people that have money, invest in these kinds of companies now, it's going to be making a huge return soon)
This is almost about the coolest thing I've ever seen
I'm a cybernetic organism. Living tissue over a metal endoskeleton!
You are the t1000!
Nicholas Isaacs t800
Nicholas Isaacs - or in this case a metal exo skeleton over living flesh
It is a memetic polyalloy. Designed to be used with knives and stabbing weapons
"Everybody wants to be a bodybuilder, but nobody wants to lift no heavy-ass weights"
SuitX: *HOLD MY BEER*
No drilling holes in body, no extremely painful garage surgery with bone crushing, electronic implants, screws and spilling blood all over the place? Nah, Elysium sf with Matt Damon got it better... xD
Well if you did interface with the bones and nerves directly then you could do incredible things, it's just a tad painful and possibly deadly because of infections.
@@MsSomeonenew Sure, but I bet there's a way to do this wirelessly by some mind mapping techniques.
Sweet now my wife can go out into the yard and haul lumber, bricks and wheelbarrows full of cement while I stay inside and make cupcakes *cough nap*
This reminds me of Metal Gear Solid 5
Looks like something that huey wears
Jessen's Channel Yep Exactly!
That basically the Mk 0 version what everyone wearing in metal gear
"A weapon to surpass metal gear!"
Hope someone knowledgeable like SmarterEveryDay gets a chance to look at this. Someone with an engineering background makes the piece so much more interesting.
Now let's strap some body armor to that bad boy and get living like Starcraft
I work in television production and had immediately thought of it's infinite uses in the industry; I'm glad you showed the camera op. testing it out. Are the arm and back pieces quiet enough for a boom operator to wear while rolling?
CassiTheNerd back is definitely quiet enough. You'd just have to step gently and carefullywith the leg to avoid the tapping of the metal sound
"The SuitX exoskeleton made me super strong"
No it didn't.
What did it just make everything lighter? I dont think you know how heavy 50 pounds is
Love your bubbly attitude
I would like to know if Forest Gump is getting some royalty money for the LegX
Can't wait for the first Black Friday incident where one of the shoppers is just stomping through all the others in an exoskeleton.
As a physical therapist I have worked with hundreds or maybe thousands of patients who could seriously benefit from something like this not only for occupational safety and assist but also for daily activity with impaired individuals. Please mass produce these and I hope you can get insurance companies on board!
I am now going to have to look into this. Shoulder-X is of particular interest to me. I am about to have surgery on my neck and shoulder. I was told my days of working in my chosen employment are going to be over. I want to know if this has gone active since the release of this video. Thank you for putting something on that wasn't a waste of time today!
Does this have stanky leg mode?
glad i found this video. I'd bet people who stand 8 hrs or more on their feet would also feel the same. here's to the future! cheers!
Obesity rates are gonna skyrocket once these things become affordable lol
It is already sky-high in USA and UK, pathetic.
And it all besides just a small computer in the legs is sheer mechanical, that is some great engineering.
That's all cool and everything. But does it reduces gun recoil?
Chair mode “BUT CAN YOU DO THIS” *leans back all the way*
"Total freedom of movement!"
*tries to put hands by side*
I can see this or a version like it assisting victims who have been disabled by a severe stroke, or multiple strokes. Very innovative.
Chair mode..............399$
Karate Master: We train for years mastering the horse stance so our legs can maintain a strong and stable position for hours.
Me in an Exoskeleton: Hold my tea.
"MAXIMUM STRENGTH" (from the videogame "Crysis")
wow, I want those. you made them look so fun
Well I'd say lifting a 50 pound box being "super strength" is a bit much but this is a really cool device never the less
Lucian Leesonja I would likely agree with you more. If pounds make no sense to me on purpose.
Considering the average gym goer can easily deadlift 315-405 pounds after training for like 6 months, yea 50 pounds is pretty pathetic.
Any person who does any kind of exercise in their life shouldnt have any trouble lifting that
When factories work their employees so hard they need to get them exoskeletons
This is freakin’ awesome.
Imagine some big rock or debri falls on someone and they have the exo skeleton on so it saves them and they catch it no problem and then all u see on the news is “man saved by exo suit, THE FUTURE IS NOW”
I think Lexy needs to visit Boston Dynamics!! 😁
Think visiting the gym is higher priority rn
Soon people will need this to be able to move - or come to our classes for rehabilitation.
nanotubes:It's the future stronger than steel! Light as a feather
2:54 who else got worried when they heard that cracking sound. Had me thinking her spine cracked 😂😂
Yeah I thought that too haha
"Chair-mode Activate"
But can it do thiiiiis?
👇
$399.99 vs $14,000
Hmmm... 🤔🤔
What about the missing cent?
I can imagine how much the guys at work would make fun of me for wearing this. "that thing gonna help ya lift ya purse?" " can ya put ya dress on ova that thing?"
"Exoskeletons are being used in factories."
As in currently in 2018.
Right. So 2?
john jiggler question: do you work in a factory?
In somo factories of japan.
I dream of sci fi future and megabuildings so I'm very happy that this exoskeleton technology already exists!
also the SuitX looks so futuristic!
I think some of it is psychological; she thinks she can't lift the boxes without the skeleton, but activating it gives her confidence.
The idea is great, especially for people with bad backs or weakness. But I think bosses will start to expect more from workers because of their new capacity.
Nice dead space profile image I think the RadBrad is still better
And meanwhile Star Trek Discovery has WHEELCHAIR GUY(tm)...
(200+ years later, you'd think this tech would be improved upon...)
This isn't powered, it shares the user's limits
Edit: person deleted his comment. not tallaussie, some other guy
Now I just need my plasma cutter, a crazy alien worshiping cult, an engineering degree, and massive relationship issues.
can i take a nap in this while my body is working? just kidding i know a exoskeleton does not work like this. while watching this i felt like i would live in the year 3000. wow.
At that point, might as well just create androids that do your jobs for you while you sleep all day.
Now you can go back to the kitchen and make me infinite sandwiches ....
Wow imagine what it can do for someone thats fit and doesnt get winded after spending 10 calories !
Those people don't exist~
Norm T - Those clips are only a few seconds long, they only burn like 8 calories before passing out off camera
These things could help out so much in so many Waze
John Gyver when these things start getting mass produced you should be able to but one for around the same price as a laptop maybe a but more
Idk why profesional bikes costs around 3mil usd if they're just aluminium with two tires.
15 k that will save you alot of insurance money is still cheap
Electronics are cheap these day, just think of your phone and laptops.
Laziness at a new level, I am gonna put this on when I go to the gym.
lmao
"We are already cyborgs. "
- Elon Musk
my left ear really enjoyed the outro
Really cool and utterly feasible for commercial use in the next few years. The millitary might tango with it slightly but I feel that Boston Dynamics is gonna win that battle with their robots. The first nation with a full robotic infantry will dominate. We're way of that yet though.
1 step closer to making Megalobox into reality!
Gabby Y yep!
