there’s this whole thing where people who were in wellington at the time knew about a group of vampire weirdos (with a huge emphasis on the “weirdos”) going around at night, turns out it was just taika & co filming
This story cracks me up every time. They also said they walked by rugby clubs abs bar and random people shouted “h0mo” at them abs one of those instances made it in the film, but they said Wellington (and hopefully the world) has gotten much more tolerant since then.
There’s so many great things about this movie. 1. The actor who plays Stu isn’t actually an actor, he thought he was just going to cameo. 2. Jemaine and Taika had a script but they didn’t use it. They just had everyone improvise the dialogue for particular situations. 3. In a recent interview, Rhys Darby said he was genuinely annoyed filming this movie and was miserable shooting at 3 AM, so he wasn’t doing much acting. Taika and Jemaine loved this and directed the werewolves to mess with him and annoy him even more every chance they got. 😂 4. The cops got a spin-off
@@GlenOwen Yeah, Stu is one of their friends. I know he was a cameo in at least one other Taika Waititi movie, but he didn’t have lines and all he did was die.
For number 3, that explains the whole the part where they’re chaining themselves up for the full moon and Rhys gets just fed up and starts swearing up a storm and one of the other guys reminds him that they’re werewolves not swear wolves and he has to play along hahaha
There's also "Count to ten, human again" and "I may be landed gentry, but I am flattered to be granted entry" or something along those lines when he introduces himself as the gentleman pirate 🤣 I would love to see him do an entire character who only speaks in rhymes 🤣
jemaine and taika co-wrote and co-directed this together!! they based it on some characters they used to do for a sketch, made a short film in 2005, and then spent a few years writing the script - which they never actually ended up showing to the actors to get the more natural documentary-like reactions so quite a lot if not most of the scenes were improvised. they had cameras running basically the whole time and had many hours of footage to edit later. the wwdits show tho is technically only jemaine's bc taika has other projects going on, but taika worked on the first season of it.
This is one of my favorite movies 💜 One bit of trivia - in the second werewolf scene, where Anton tells Declan to f*ck off to a tree, it was like 3am and Rhys was sick, and Jemaine and Taika were directing the other werewolves to come pester him with stupid little problems just to annoy him. His irritation was 100% real
I just wanted to say I'm SO glad you did this film, it's honestly one of my favourites. At the start of the video, you mentioned the script writing, and I wanted to point out that to my knowledge, a lot of this was actually improvised! I know especially with Stu, the guy who played him really was just some guy called Stu, not an actor. I think he worked as an IT guy on the film, and he was told he would have a small role and he just had to react naturally to what was happening. Obviously he ended up with one of the most important roles in the film!
Your face when Rhys Darby showed up was priceless 😂 There are a lot of fun little easter eggs in this movie that originate from the super low-budget short film that all these guys (including Stu!) made 9 years before this one. Stu actually went to high school with Taika Waititi and is literally just playing himself. He also invented a lighting technique that Taika used in Thor: Ragnorok!
yooo so glad to see you starting reacting to the wwdits universe after ofmd!! if you’re able to react to the wwdits show you definitely should, a lot of ofmd fans also like it so you probs will as well :D
Each of the vampires represents a different type of vampire movie - Petyr is Nosferatu, Viago is Interview with the Vampire, Vlad is Bram Stoker's Dracula, Deacon is Lost Boys and Nick is Twilight.
Me too that’s Crazy. Real real though, lost boys was a weird one. There’s a band I love called “the midnight” and they have a song called “lost boys” inspired by that movie

Well worth a watch/listen if you enjoy 80s vibes and/or vampire stuff.
Sorry for being that person but you saying "happy endings" as Viago raises his eyebrows suggestively is amazing timing. This movie is so funny, I laughed harder than I have in a long, long time. if you're digging this, two more things you'd probably enjoy: wellington paranormal (a spinoff about the cops that is admittedly just BONE dry humor 90% of the time, so it's not for everybody) and the TV show what we do in the shadows (about a different group of vampires in NYC but with the same vibe).
I hope this will help: Taika is pronounced like tiger with a ka at the end. Tie-ka. And Waititi is pronounced like the place in Hawaii, Waikiki, but instead with T's. Tie-ka Why-teetee.
This is the movie that started my love for Taika, your reaction was fun to watch! The part where they are chasing Nick where you ask “how did they do that” it’s was actually a rotating corridor, super cool. They show it in this BTS video around 3:45, the whole video is pretty great too ruclips.net/video/l3B4yXLxSPE/видео.html

We can be honest, it’s probably terrible
@@GlenOwen Honestly? It's pretty good! I've heard worse from NZers.
OMG YES! Thank you, I love this movie 🖤🧛🏻♂️
if you're digging this, two more things you'd probably enjoy: wellington paranormal (a spinoff about the cops that is admittedly just BONE dry humor 90% of the time, so it's not for everybody) and the TV show what we do in the shadows (about a different group of vampires in NYC but with the same vibe).
I really enjoyed this, I'm hoping you'll watch the series as well because it's really good!!
Best.Vampire.Movie.Ever.
💯💯💯
I hope this will help: Taika is pronounced like tiger with a ka at the end. Tie-ka. And Waititi is pronounced like the place in Hawaii, Waikiki, but instead with T's. Tie-ka Why-teetee.
Oh yeah! I’m almost a master at this point lol
you need to see now the tv show
I would love to watch you react to the series! :)
It’s coming James!
@@GlenOwen awesome! I can't wait :D
The tv show is great!
That's wild. For a sec i thought you meant BTS the pop group. I'm an effin boomer.
Our Flag Means Death was written by David Jenkins not Taika Waititi.
Ty for letting me know!
starring WAIKIKI
Also - i love your laugh
DUDE YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY WATCH WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS THE TV SERIES BY FX
You need to watch Wellington Paranormal. Its about police in NZ in the world what we do in the shadows is set. Its fantastic 👌

Add it
Check out Wellington Paranormal for the cops from this show. So funny.
Definitely watch Wellington Paranormal - spinoff show of the cop characters that features familiar faces. First two series are on hbo max in the us
I might have to! That looks interesting
15:43 they built a rotating room for this scene!
YeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSssssssssssssAH
Lllllleeeeettttssss GGGGGGGGggggooookk
Bro I love you but you gotta learn Taika Waititi's name, it's not that hard, it's five syllables and it's spelled phonetically XD;
Bro I know, im awful but I think I’m there
I definitely don't like gardening so i will give ur video a like also i posted a new video
I watched a man they’re getting better! I need more Conrad eating hot sauce
@@GlenOwen i will try
Stu is just Taika's real life friend. Not an actor at all.
Which is absolutely hilarious an amazing
pleeassseeee watch the tv show
So many Americans love pie-in-the-face humour. No exception here. Sad.
I think there is a spin-off show about those two cops being totally oblivious to allkinds of supernatural occurances.
