Anthony Sclafani i got it when it came out and it’s still good. I mean not only does it have an amazing spring setting, there’s like a million other things you could do on it. I wouldn’t sell this one, ever.
Anthony Sclafani however there is one pedal that people say beats the oceans 11. ruclips.net/video/nn-PpQDPwNc/видео.html I’ve never played one but check them out, I’ve heard they’re a treat for the ears.
@@marcospintor1333 Ok, but the OCeans 11 really is cheaper. I'm someone who doesn't need it alle the time (I do sometimes play surf music), so for me Oceans 11 it is :)
Just watched your DRIP reverb mash up with JHS from early 2021. AMAZING. I'm now hooked on finding drippy surfy pedals! Thanks for this awesome side-by-side comparison.
I'm still totally impressed by the Oceans11. At some points i liked it more than the real deal. So for 149.- € it's the best so far i listened to. Always better than the Boss wich is ~120-130€ used these days in Germany. Thank you for the comparison.
currently at my local samash trying out the mxr reverb and i come across this video, i guess i might change my mind and get the oceans 11 for the better price, this was unbelievably helpful and on time hahahaha thanks ryan
Impressively close! The fender unit is a champ driving the reverb tank and then a recovery gain stage as well as a clean gain stage for blend. So thats the biggest thing a pedal won't be able to compete with. Authentic fender champs overdrive response going through the tank
Thanks so much! This is exactly what I was wanting from a comparison vid. You're right, the old tank is just amazing, but that pedal is CLOSE. Nice work as always.
Is there a volume drop like the other ehx reverbs? Also great video! The ocean 11 seems warmer/darker but obviously the fender has that 3D quality from the tubes. Really close though
I think if it had a resonant frequency knob, you'd be getting very close. Thats the main difference that I notice. Its almost like the drip is an octave down on the ehx.
Ryan - Your demos are so good; thorough, easy to follow, and pleasant. Thanks Was wondering if the oceans 11 spring is good enough to knock Topanga off you board? I am having a hard time deciding which one to buy. Thanks!
I use both. Can confirm it's as good as you would hope. The analogizer just warms the over tonality slightly and provides more depth to the sound., just enough to really add that tube warmth. Do it
I've been debating the Oceans 11, there are some modes like the infinite freeze that would be very useful to me but I think the sound is just too digital. I think I'm considering the NUX Atlantic instead, it sounds better but has a lot fewer reverb features, unfortunately. It does also have 3 delay types and stereo though.
About 3:05 is where Oceans 11 starts to fall apart - losing note definition and getting muddy. O11 is still awesome but Fender 63’ is still way above anything else.
I love my oceans 11 but this video just made me want the fender unit even more, maybe it’s just me but I feel like the oceans 11 is treble boosted and it’s hard on the ears to play it loudly on stage live.
trying to solve that same problem right now, epic drip but the high end during chords kills in a live show. cmon ehx just that reverb in a pedal with some mods on the EQ
what a genius idea! holy shit! i never thought of that! what an intelligent fellow!! do you know anything about the tone knob for the bridge pickups on the quintessential surf guitar?.... heel
Im expecting it to be a predelay based reverb with a surfy voicing, i'm sure it will be fun, but im not expecting it to be a real tank simulation. Ive been wrong before though.
Wow, that's really in depth - thanks! I have the O11 but yet to really get into it. Do you only play surf rock? Would have been nice to hear some other tones but thanks for taking the time.
I have the Oceans 11 and I liked it at first, but it has some harsh upper harmonics on the tail, you can hear it pretty well in this video. It's almost like mic feedback. It's worse when using the dirty channel of an amp. Put the Oceans 11 of your effects loop and use the dirty channel (I have a DSL100) and it feeds back like crazy. And it's not just Spring, but Hall and Plate too. Totally unusable if you play with drive IMO. Just throwing that out there, YMMV.
that quality is part of what makes it work as a surf reverb imo, fender units have a notorious "ice pick high" and it kind of gets in that territory. But it could be totally irritating for use outside that genre for sure.
@@60CycleHumcast I gotcha man I just can't find any direct comparisons between the Topanga and the oceans 11 and it's hard to tell. Like after this video, (which was really good btw) I'm assuming the oceans 11 is the better of the two because how close it came to the real fender spring reverb tank. But man every video I listen to on the Topanga it sounds pretty great as well even if the drip is perhaps less authentic/more manufactured sounding
@@60CycleHumcast I should probably mention that I don't intend to use the reverb for surf. But I do desire drip. See right now I have a fender Marine layer reverb and a fender tre verb. And they are good but neither of them gets real springy with natural sounding decay/trails. I play heavy overdriven 60's acid rock/blues. I desire the drip because I have a fender m80 amp head that is late 80's early 90's. Its solid state and doesn't appear to have a real reverb tank. But it sounded great with lots of drip and I'm looking to bring that to more portable amps my half stack is heavy as hell
the real deal is always going to sound best, but these pedal emulations are getting closer and closer. Honestly Id have no problem gigging with the oceans 11 or the Ventris (of course)
I like EHX pedals, I have 3, but sometimes the graphics and names are offputting, I couldn't buy the oceans cos it looks naff, I mean calling a pedal after a Clooney film?
@60 Cycle Hum I think it's the combination, most people would associate it with the Clooney film, I do, so if you're not 'mainstream' (I think the Clooney film was mainstream) it doesn't appeal. Also, I'm suspicious of multi-function digital pedals, I am following your 'drip' videos, and the insights on trails and so on are very interesting - for me if it's hall/room (which was what I used) digital wasn't such an issue, but since I got interested in using reverb more and different type, the digital thing becomes more important. That's my 2 cents. I mean, at the end, it's just opinions, right?
@@matthewpollard2843 who cares what a pedal looks like or what it's called? There's a reason why lots of bands place tape and marker over their pedals, because they don't want people looking at their pedalboards. All that matters is the sound.
I got the pedal yesterday. I like it ....BUT in bypass changes my guitar tone(in a bad way). No reviewer mentions it. Found others in forums having the same problem. Tried with trails on/off (just this pedal between guitar and amp). Always sucked tone.
Your comparison videos are top notch, well done. I was surprised at how well the Oceans 11 held up, very impressive.
I'm not spending the money on a tank. For $150 new, the Oceans 11 is more than close enough. Awesome!
I have an oceans 11 and it’s amazing. The spring and shimmer are the best effects on the pedal.
I definitely need that Oceans 11 in my life. I love when you play surf. It’s like my favorite genre for guitar

Wow...great comparison. Just sold the Rv6 and MXR REVERB and bought EHX. Also sold boss rotary for a lester k.
Great vid! What are your thoughts on this one vs the Topanga?
Perfect comment, "it's just more." The Oceans 11 sounds fantastic though.
they nailed the tonality and response of the drip. Its exciting that the pedal companies are getting so close.
You're definitely helping sell it with these videos. Great job.
Wow RUclips recommendations really begin to know me I just bought this pedal it fucking kicks ass I love it!!

Spring sounds better than Topanga IMO but Topanga has the boost control which I like - not sure which one to get ??
Great video! Did you notice any tone loss or digitalisation of the dry signal with the pedal engaged or in the bypass mode?
Ryan - Your demos are so good; thorough, easy to follow, and pleasant. Thanks
Was wondering if the oceans 11 spring is good enough to knock Topanga off you board? I am having a hard time deciding which one to buy. Thanks!
As far as a small pedal goes it doesn’t get much better than this
Love you work with Tavo.. great guy 🎉
I wonder how the Oceans 11 would pair with the EHX Analogizer, whether it would dull the digital artefacts and would simulate the valve drive better.
AlexanderWS that might be interesting, running a bit of amp reverb after it might help smooth it out too.
I use both. Can confirm it's as good as you would hope. The analogizer just warms the over tonality slightly and provides more depth to the sound., just enough to really add that tube warmth. Do it
Trex creamer has a pretty good spring setting not amazing but definitely usable
The 11 gets very close, but the tank is the real deal. In any case, an amazing pedal.

try using the tone knob on ur guitar fellas!

Damn! Cool it with that aggravating slap echo!
The fender is just that much better IMO. close, yes, but that missing bit makes it.
I need this pedal or a Catalinbread Topanga ,hmm decisions 😮 . One question.. why didn't you demonstrate the kick function?
i did it in the previous video, i should have kicked the real tank though, oh well.
I think the Oceans 11 converts the whole signal to digital (if that matters to you, for me I'm on he fence about it)
What does it sound like pedal into unit?
I just bought new one ocean 11 on amazon, just waiting 15 days left
Flint ain't doing it for me for Spring. Definitely eyeing a SurfyBear but wondering if the Oceans 11 would be enough to tide me over for a while.
Yes it will.... I have the fender tank... The ocean's 11 is a great pedal.. You won't be disappointed

What amp are you playing thru?
prefer the pedal actually

Guitar Center's web page shows both "Available 6-15" as well as "pre-order" so????? Musician's Friend is showing a June 25 expected touchdown.
well that's pretty vague.. :o
TC drip demos sound like hot garbage
I think “true spring” pedal sounds better, than oceans. Not digital sound, more warm, with body. And you can mix spring and trem.
The more I listen the Fender is better

Oceans 11 alllll the way
Please compere oceans 11 with hall of fame 2. Thx
I gave away the hall of fame 2 in a contest, It didn't have a good drip though the other settings did sound nice.
The Oceans 11 sounds more like the Fender unit than the Fender does, actually.
