Ive read about this Alpina D3, very nice. I could see it was going to come in quicker by watching! Real good looking motor i think, a nice alternative.
There was a fair bit of climbing on that track and the D3 made up good time on the those climbs. Its got nearly 100 lbs ft more. Its prob got better suspension setup for the track and better rubber. But thumbs up to the D3. Would be nice to see the 330d Msport in it and then the 335d.
Which suspension did the cars have? Was it the same for both? BMW Sportpackage? This makes a huge difference, espacially on this short track. Although I am an ALPINA Driver myself, I am of course very happy about the outcome of this movie, but I would like to point out that the 330i E93 is a convertible and if it is fully equipped, it ways easily 1900KG!!! - the 320d Coupe / base for the D3 is 1505KG stock...and the breaks are rubbish on the E91/92/92, both 330d and 330i
This was a switchtronic D3, so it's burdened by the additional weight of the box as well as the inherently greater driveline losses. So while it still has a (lesser) weight advantage, it's substantially further down on power (~20 bhp) than the figures suggest.
I don't agree with that - the driver was pushing both cars an equal amount but as the 330's DTC was more intrusive it didn't let him get on with it as much. So in these circumstances, with both cars using DTC on sport mode, the D3 was faster.
lol the diesel is quieter on the motorway, has more torque ,2 turbos ,and never sounds under any strain high revving petrol is more refined yes,but the usuable torque on the bi turbo make it a tough cookie to beat

geee.. just saw we had the weight issue already... whatever.. nice video anyways.. looking forward to seeing more of these
Alpina probably has better tires too. And it's lighter. But 3s is a lot faster too. Point taken, the D3 is fast, I have no problem with that!

What the hell is this guy driving with the stability control on??
turbo's always dampen sound a lot.
so your probably right.
it seems he took the first curve quicker with the d3 by driving better.
This video is usless. The cab will have more flex through the corners, on top being heavier.
