I travel all over the country and stay in Airbnb's for work. It's a great tool for contractors that travel long term for work. Airbnb's should be addressed individually if they are a nuisance. It's likely due to poor management.

Tech companies just do what they want and destroy something essential like housing and then instead of removing that product we have to rally and get votes to remove it. It's insane. It isn't hard to regulate. You hire people who's job is to rent local STRs and then use the fines to fund the program. Or you give people rewards for reporting rhem. Or you have Airbnb give the address of every STR in the zip codes. And if they don't, they get fined when they are fined too. And you tell Airbnb not to allow STRs at a list of zip codes. Not very complicated.

Good! They have done this in other communities and it works well. Wish they would do this statewide.
They are frequently purchased by wealthy investors and run by management companies. They exploit and ruin our small communities. They have driven rents way up making workers have to relocate and since there are so many they add to traffic nightmares and problems.
Weekenders frequently turn homes into party houses and become loud, drinking or even drugging late into the night.
They dont know the roads, drive and park irresponsibly, litter, and leave their scared barking dogs behind for hours while they go out.
The many housecleaning teams and loud yard blowers midweek are also annoying.
Additionally, its uncomfortable not knowing who is next door for the weekend ...sometimes they seem like decent people, but too many over seem a bit sketchy and could be sex offenders, drug dealers or thieves.
I could support short-term rentals for a lower income senior living onsite, who wants to rent a small underutilized space to a traveling worker, like a nurse. But barely managed hotels in residential neighborhoods need to go.

Exactly. You leave your properties boarded up and unoccupied. Reducing supply, reducing supply which increases demand which increases prices and then you leverage the value into other assets like stocks, bonds, crypto etc. And then you see those assets increase and then everyone that needs a place to stay can barely afford it and then they go to the government and the government only can do is create more rules and those roles just create more problems. If you want cheap housing get rid of the rules and then there's going to be housing on every block. But your average citizen does not think about that. They think with their emotions.

This is a step in the right direction - if only other cities will follow. Maybe a statewide ban would be the way to go. Next would be to limit single family homes to USA individuals (not LLC's/corps/non-citizens etc.). As the voter base becomes younger (boomers dying off) - it's likely more favorable housing laws will take effect over time (millennials by 2028 will be the new voter majority). Prop 13 will likely get axed too which if they were to lower the overall rate, might make sense but they probably will just axe it and not lower the overall rate (which then nobody wins except the state). (Prop 13 discourages home selling and downsizing). The problem is by the time they do these things, entire generations are irreversibly damaged (millennials unable to have families, so by the time they can they are past the age of having children).

A city can ban Airbnb's, limit the amount of people in a businesses, but they can't limit the amount of people that can safely live in a home? It's okay to subdivide rooms in a home, convert the garage into a rental, rent out the motorhome, the tool shed and whatever else they can stick a warm body in, but an Airbnb is not okay ?
It's okay to allow people to build a second home on their property in a neighborhood zoned as R1 no matter how much overcrowding it causes , but a Airbnb is not ok.

Government is to blame for the lack of housing. Instead of allowing more building, the government tells you what to do with your property. Limiting the number of properties a person can own is up next!

The problem with short-term rentals is the people who rent the houses are mostly out of towners, so they don't have a sense of belonging, and thier demeanor and the properties condition reflects that. It would be less so if a large majority of renters was a family on an extended vacation, but there's less of that, and more people who simply want a party pad for a bit, or someone who just uses the airbnb as a place to sleep while working away from their real home.

That's the reality of things. Everything is expensive. You're not being forced to use Airbnb, Uber, or anything. Hotels will always be available, just like taxi's. Again, the target shouldn't be the people renting a room/backroom etc to make ends meet. The target should be the serial STR companies. Those companies that buy multiple properties solely for short term rentals. That's the real problem.
