I's so sad thinking about all the time I spent on ToonTown. I stopped playing multiple years ago. But, I finally came back today while I was sick having to miss school. I thought of all the fun I had as a kid. I think that this game is fun at any age though. As a teenager, I was really looking forward to play it. Then I found out ToonTown closed in 2013. I will always remember this amazing game. R.I.P ToonTown 2003 - 2013
I'd played toontown ever since I was about 7 or8. 1 day I went to play it after awhile and my launcher wasn't working and my dad couldn't even fix it. When I found out they closed I was crying a little more than when I did when Zayn left 1d😂😂
I remember the day toontown closed like it was yesterday. I had taken a really long break the game and saw it on my desktop. I decided to go ahead and try it out and I was able to play for a few hours before I was forced to exit out of the program. I waited hours. After countless times of checking back I finally was able to login again but when I started the program up the login screen had that fateful message on the news bulletin. Took the time to read it and learned that the game would be closing September 18th (I believe) of 2013. I couldn't stop crying. This game is been a part of me for numerous years even since kindergarten and to see that it was closing in just a month was heartbreaking. I hope that one day Disney actually take the time to sink and realize what they actually did. They took away SO MANY childrens' childhoods all for Club Penguin. Screw. You. Disney.
Wow, I remember Toontown before Lawbot HQ. I think we would always dance around Lawbot HQ until the day it came out. All of my friends and I rushed in... only to immediately go sad from all the high lawbots.
I used to play this with my dad back in 2006 (I think) and I grew up on this game. I remember when Bossbot HQ and the golf parts were added and I remember the pig being added.
I remember when my grandad introduced me to Toontown when I was 5 years old... I played on my granddad's laptop all the time, I remember him logging in and doing toontasks with me. those days were awesome
I played toontown when I was 4 in 2008, I don't remember much, but I remember I was addicted and my parents made me stop. Playing toontown rewritten just brings back those memories
I don't get why they chose to work on Club Penguin. You make a penguin, buy it stuff, play shitty games for coins, and join an unrealistic secret angency, all while playing at a fixed camera view and being able to walk unrealistically through and/or over terrain. ToonTown was so much better.
Just like every other company i guess? It's not such a big deal. There's different servers and you can play it again. i don't know why people are still angry about it
the new servers aren't as good as the original game (i.e. they haven't finished creating everything from the old game, they changed it a lot, etc.) but you do have a point.
The answer my friend is all marketing, unfortunately. :-( Disney is a business and at the end of the day their job is to make the most yearly revenue. Club Penguin targets really young kids, and before you know it they get bored and move on. But generations after generations keep joining, and they're still able to make so much money off the game. If in the past Toontown was heavily advertised (sort of like 2008 before they flat out gave up) maybe we'd be seeing a different outcome. Can't be sure 100%.
I played this game in 03 before sellbot hq even came out. i was 9 and begged my mom to buy me those 2 month membership cases for 20 bucks. good times. true toontown veteran here lol
Bruh, I started in 03 as well at the age of 5 which I had no understanding of the game until I was 8. I remember still to this day my family gathered around the computer in awe of how you could actually play with others and that excitement feeling of having this new game! My parents didn't want me to get into COD or Halo when I was young so they payed for toontown each month for me. I took a break for about a year in 2012 which was the year of nothingness started in feb 2013 and kept playing till it closed. I ended with a toon with 125 laff, another with 108, and another with 96. Now I am playing rewritten for my 11th day and I am sitting at 52 laff!
***** bbhq was a really fun one but I wasn't able to play it much because I was trying to get to level 50 in every hq which was insane to do but I was finishing lawbot when the game closed
***** Thats what I was focoused on till I hit max hollywood so I went on to become max robber baron and I finished that so I was trying to be max big wig then game closed.....
I loved Toontown online, until it closed... WTF DID IT CLOSE? But now I play toontown infinite, and I have a maxed toon, which I never could achieve in tto.
I remember joining toontown, I played it when I was like 6 (2007) and I forgot about it because we moved, then I remembered it when I was 8 in 2009...THEN moved again and forgot it...so I got back when I was 9 or 10, (2009 or 2010) ANYWAYS, I remember being so stupid..not understanding how to sign up and I actually put the "parents email" meanwhile we didn't have to, so for years I was using speedchat to the point I memorized where every chat was, and I would make friends and somehow have conversations hahaha. I hope I'm not the only dumb kid that had this problem...I didn't know how to make it so you can type and chat. Damn was I happy when I figured it out. But honestly, I made so many friends on here...and it's just sad that all those friendships are lost now, it would be cool to know how these people are doing now. Also the fact that all of us users lost our toons that we worked so hard on...I hate when our childhood gets ripped away like that. But seriously disney, you had to close 3 amazing/popular/unique games for CLUB PENGUIN? That game was so boring...speaking of "was". You mean to tell me you're going to close these other games, for club penguin...JUST TO CLOSE CLUB PENGUIN ANYWAYS? Boy. Disney you have let me down so much...Disney is just so money hungry it's sad. I hope your mobile app dies tbh.
6:39 ZOMG KORY EN DA HAOS Oh my God I remember all of this besides the cashbot and sellbot HQ dropping because I didn't have premium then. I remember the page at 1:30 and my Dad signing me up for the 3-day free trial. Oh my God Toontown is so much fun. I played on and off for the full 10 years and on September 20th 2013 (the day after Toontown went down) I wore all black the entire day in honor of the loss of Toontown. Since then i've been following Toontown Rewritten and even got to play Beta, and it's a blast. This is a great video, thanks for making it.
ten toontastic years. they celebrated. then two months later they said that toontown would close forever. the next month it did. many months later toontown rewritten was born.
I got pissed at the 10 year anniversary shirt and hat thing like really? Thats all youre gonna fuckin do?! That was before they announced the closing of it though.
Future events after this: August 20th, 2013: Disney announces that Toontown will close. September 19th, 2013: Toontown closes. September 19th, 2014: Toontown Rewritten, a fan game, comes to public beta, a year after the game closed. It is the most popular remake, with over 7000 toons.
Fun fact, the initial public announcement for Toontown Rewritten being in development as well as their website going public was only a couple of hours after Toontown Online closed!
The last parts: Most of July, hackers filled up districts which let both the online and test server to go down for almost 2 weeks. In early August, we got a max beans and a shirt for the delays. August 20th game was announced to close to September 19th. In September TTR was announced. In March TTI was announced. On June 6th, 2014 Disney edited Toontown's domain, and today, 6-10-14, the Toontown domain, was renewed by Disney
I know this is years late, but Disney still renews the domain so people can't make "toontown.com" redirect to "meatspin.com" or some other degenerate garbage. That's my theory at least. I 100% believe they are done with Toontown. They take down all the Club Penguin private servers, but leave TTR up and online.
Probably one of the best related toontown videos i have ever seen :) really takes me back seeing all the old things like release of cb and bb headquarters. thank you so much for making this kick ass video :D
Good memories for me with this game. I joined in '07, where you couldn't even leave TTC and Goofy Speedway if you didn't have membership. I was so excited when my parents finally bought it for me.
I'm all up for TTR but let's look at why TTO was closed to start with. Yes, it was closed for Club Penguin, but why? Because it was more popular but exactly why was it more popular? Because they actually cared enough to update CP. If they had put a fraction of the effort they put in CP into TT then it may still be alive today. How many ads on TV did you see for TT? Not many right? How about CP? Plenty. I wish they would have actually given a damn about TT and updated it, not talking about accessories, or toon parties, but having an actual creative team that knew how to bring a dying game back to life. They didn't even improve the graphics, yeah Panda 3D was outdated, but why didn't they switch? I dont know much about programming but it just irks me that I feel like they didnt even try with Toontown. Maybe they shouldnt have given free players so much access.
they never made racing in goofys speedway enjoyable to look at (i mean those graphics, come on!) or even opened that tunnel in Chip and Dale's Acorn Acres, I am still really upset about that!
It truly is a shame that Disney closed toontown. I remember my friend going to toonfest. He cameback with these limited edition shirts, magnets and marbles and I really wish I went!
Disney closed this for club penguin... Toontown got them best game of the year in 2003 if Disney bothered to do something with toontown like upscale the graphics and patch bugs and gave us new content it would still be open today
10 YEARS! CONGRATS TOONTOWN! *1 month later* Maybe I shouldn't be happy that it got too old that it's going to die???? Nice present to the game, Disney. Closing it is genius. Screw you.
On a different note, I think toontown rewritten was inspired by these old updates which I think is awesome, I never knew this until I watched your video. But the whole "vote for the next toon" is something that they had going on on TTR. Another thing is the doodles, before we got doodles (and damn, we waited a very long time) they had the whole "flippy lost his doodle" or something like that and they wanted us to find him. Right after that they introduced us to doodles. I would like to say that it would be awesome if in TTR they introduced these old toon species, the cow, chicken and goat. Anyways I need to stop blabbing, this video is really awesome! it's really cool to see the history...I kind of remember some of these things being released. I'm curious if disney purposely had that tunnel in chip n dales playground (the one that had the cross saying you can't pass or whatever..) I feel like they had that on purpose and that they were going to reveal what the tunnel was for once toontown was closing.
I remember when Toontown was still new and fresh, it was such a great game and it had so many fun things to do, but when the hackers appeared, the game was ruined, and all good things of Toontown ended. I wish that Toontown was still being updated like this, where Toontown Central was the most beautiful playground I ever seen, and Minnie's Melodyland had a Merry Go round. Toontown had so many opportunities, but it was all washed away and left to rust. Stay Toontastic Toontown, a fun, toony, game
5:28 I wonder whose whisper that is there, *ex dee* Anyway, I'm glad the history of Toontown has never been forgotten. Brings back a lot for me joining back around the time of Chip and Dale's release. That's nothing compared to some who were around ever since the first Beta! One day I'm sure we'll be making the same comments about TTR years in the future.
Bro, I respect you man. You don't seem like your full of your self. Such as other famous RUclipsrs, cough cough, Mallow, Kyle, Lefty, etc. Good memoir video!
Dragoon Stormer I left out a few things while making this, thinking I would eventually come back to them. I plan on making an updated version of this video, though!
Freckleslam was the Herobrine of Toontown. People were scared just to see him because if you saw him, you would never see your toon or account again. This is somewhat true, because Freckleslam didn't have access to the database to completely remove someone's account data.
Love it, what a great timeline. This game is awesome and its so heart warming to know how far it has come. Really dont want to see it go. Thank you for the cool video
I played this game when it came out and was so excited when I was playing it lol, 10 years later and hear that its shutting down and I get all sad, the nostalgia was too much D:
god i hated when boarding groups were added :[ I mean shuffling was annoying but at least sometimes you'd get in a good group and get through the battle as a low laffer.. I guess i was lucky to be doing my first vps when i did because when i started doing vps again, it was significantly harder to get in one. AND HOLD UP THE PARTIES WAS 2009?! wow i thought it was like 2011 or something, it feels like not long ago and i remember when the pandoras box of hacking started, like i didn't even know what hacking was before the waves of hackers began xD I enjoyed watching this video revisiting my childhood of 6 years; ;(played 2007-2013)
I loved the addition of boarding groups. It got rid of low laff moochers so that I would only be in groups with 70+ and I didn't have to carry someone else's weight. People under 70 have no reason to be trying to accomplish a VP, especially when they know that they will not be invited.
Tyler Ross I invite low toons around 60 laff who at least have decent gags, but not because "everyone was a cold caller once". When I was 40 laff, I did not try to do VP's. I tried to actually do my tasks and train my gags like you were supposed to. 90% of the cold callers there have bad laff and bad gags or just bad gags. Unless a toon is able to do a VP with 7 other exact copies of that toon, then they should not go into the VP lobby at all.
i started playing again 3 days ago ( since maybe 2012) and am at 45! I have no plans to do vp anytime soon till I raise my laff at least 20-30. I know some people are just excited but they are most likely going to die and make things difficult for others. Its better to get strong and wait until you can handle things!
Omg I actually recall playing this game in 2002 and I didn't even know it lasted for more than a decade after that!!! Suddenly don't know what I have been doing all these years not playing Toontown Online :((((
You forgot to mention the factories were real hard and if you lost a vp you would have to get the part again + It only had speedchat + Tasks were harder until 2007 when things became much simpler there's so much stuff I could go on about but good video :)
Sad this game shut down, it really does seem like a fun game and I wish I had known about it when I could. They also shut it down in a not verh good way. Could've made a grand ending with like some celebration or fun adventure before it ended?
It is pretty sad. Toontown Online is a great game. I have no idea why they would close it this year. I mean, a lot of us knew Toontown would close some day. None of us expected it so soon.
And then it closed after all the great stuff that came out of its community. Now we get Club Penguin where you play from a fixed camera view! :D Yaaaaaaay!
TT, you should do this same sort of thing with Toontown Rewritten after a few years (hoping it will go that far) since they're re-implementing and implementing more stuff. It'd be nice.
I remember right at the beginning when I started, it was between the clarabelle catalog update and the fishing update which brought the number of fish from 50 up to 70 with a "new species migration" way before even sellbot hq. ah, good times. can't wait till the software developers are finished with the new TT :D
not exactly new, just "rewritten" look up toontown rewritten. they're making a free TT that's basically the same as the old one it's being done by a bunch of coders and stuff
Spooky, I remember toontown before the bingo and yet; I had no idea it was only 1 - 2 years from when it was first released! I though I joined late! XD
I was around 5 or 6 (2008 or 2009) when I joined ToonTown. I had no idea what to do but actually leveled up to a nice level after a year. Sadly, I had to get rid of the game because it was ruining my computer. Basically because my computer was a piece of shiz. I only knew of the game because of my older cousin who was utterly obsessed with it! I heard of the closing because my same cousin actually stayed home from school for 3 days because of depression. TOONTOWN WAS HER WHOLE ENTIRE CHILDHOOD! On Facebook, she actually changed her profile picture and cover photo to ToonTown related stuff. I was upset as well but I didn't play since 2010. Now I am starting to get obsessed with it by playing ToonTown Rewritten. My cousin probably has probably heard of it.. Well, yeah that's my story! Lol
After ten years of fun toontown closed it's doors for good but that same day toonbook anoused toontownrewritten will be coming out soon don't forget to put that in there
1:14 I remember that create a toon thing! I think it was still up in 2005 when I joined! or 2006. :/3:14 I also remember this. xD Only I think it was different- doodles existed before the one I know. :/4:44 I signed up for the trading card thingy. I wish I still had em though. They were SO COOL.10:05 I REMEMBER THESE. GET ON IT TTR.that is all. :3
And toontown closes its USA servers (Main) in a month. 9/19/2013 So sad and furious. But on the bright side, everyone is a member up until the closing date.
Did Disney ever even have press releases giving reasons for their decisions? I have all kinds of TT memorabilia including 2 TT posters hand signed by all the developers. The posters are exact copies but the signatures differ on each poster. I also have 8 years of trading cards collected up. I finally stopped playing (actually stopped paying for the account annually) sometime in 2011. It's sad they are no longer around.
they weren't making enough money, so they closed all of their minimal profit games to focus on club penguin. hackers played a very small role in the closure. if you didnt already know, you can sign up for Toontown Rewritten or Toontown Infinite and play it. they are in-development though, with new features to come.
*After Toontown's Anniversary*
Disney: Surprise! We're closing Toontown!
Then a few years after Semi Open Beta, cant wait to play... all of the memories
R.I.P toowntown, we'll miss our childhoods
best 10th birthday present one could ever ask for
I's so sad thinking about all the time I spent on ToonTown. I stopped playing multiple years ago. But, I finally came back today while I was sick having to miss school. Screw. You. Disney.
ComputerFennekin, dude that happened to me too like literally the same story
My childhood was Club Penguin, and guess what?
Disney took even more childhoods all for a crappy game called Club Penguin Island.
RIP TOONTOWN. Long live Toontown Rewritten

Maybe I shouldn't be happy that it got too old that it's going to die????
Nice present to the game, Disney. Closing it is genius. Screw you.
SurvivalYoshi 😢
1:50 you see Slate Blue Rabbit at the very bottom right corner. :D
Could just be a generic Slate Blue Rabbit, but it would be neat if that was SBR.
Watching this on TTi's public beta's release.
Man it's good to be back ^^
5:28 I wonder whose whisper that is there, *ex dee*
Anyway, I'm glad the history of Toontown has never been forgotten.
Good memoir video!
im kind of disappointed in the lack of talking about Freckleslam, i remember when everybody freaked out about him.
Dragoon Stormer I left out a few things while making this, thinking I would eventually come back to them. I plan on making an updated version of this video, though!
Can't wait
Freckleslam was the Herobrine of Toontown. People were scared just to see him because if you saw him, you would never see your toon or account again. This is somewhat true, because Freckleslam didn't have access to the database to completely remove someone's account data.
+Objective eh i dont trully agree because herobrine was fake and did not delete your account
Love it, what a great timeline. This game is awesome and its so heart warming to know how far it has come. Really dont want to see it go. Thank you for the cool video
And finally on September the 19th 2013 Toontown Closed. :'(
I played this game when it came out and was so excited when I was playing it lol, 10 years later and hear that its shutting down and I get all sad, the nostalgia was too much D:
i was playing toontown before goofy speed way was out
GAME LAUNCH ROCK. YES.
I LOVE THAT SONG
Wait did I just see roger dog in this video....?
god i hated when boarding groups were added :[ I mean shuffling was annoying but at least sometimes you'd get in a good group and get through the battle as a low laffer.. I guess i was lucky to be doing my first vps when i did because when i started doing vps again, it was significantly harder to get in one.
AND HOLD UP THE PARTIES WAS 2009?! wow i thought it was like 2011 or something, it feels like not long ago
and i remember when the pandoras box of hacking started, like i didn't even know what hacking was before the waves of hackers began xD
I enjoyed watching this video revisiting my childhood of 6 years; ;(played 2007-2013)
I loved the addition of boarding groups. It got rid of low laff moochers so that I would only be in groups with 70+ and I didn't have to carry someone else's weight. People under 70 have no reason to be trying to accomplish a VP, especially when they know that they will not be invited.
Death Strobe I'm a hollywood, but i invite low toons because everyone was a cold caller once.
Its better to get strong and wait until you can handle things!
mjow dont do it until at least 60 laff, 50 laff if you have cake
Omg I actually recall playing this game in 2002 and I didn't even know it lasted for more than a decade after that!!! Suddenly don't know what I have been doing all these years not playing Toontown Online :((((
It closed all because of the website we all hate,Club Penguin
7:16 That surprised emote was on the 2003 trailer, but hasn't appeared in game at all...
You forgot to mention the factories were real hard and if you lost a vp you would have to get the part again + It only had speedchat + Tasks were harder until 2007 when things became much simpler there's so much stuff I could go on about but good video :)
played this game for 7 years im actually SO SAD... rip toontown ill miss u more than anything):
Sad this game shut down, it really does seem like a fun game and I wish I had known about it when I could. They also shut it down in a not verh good way. Could've made a grand ending with like some celebration or fun adventure before it ended?
I don't know if you have heard, but a group of people have revived the game called Toontown Rewritten,
Rocco Zippenspeed But imagine if they HADN'T remade the game. Alot of the oroliginal lovers of the game probably don't even know.
*original
True true. Though, thousands of people still play the game daily and the revived game has new content.
Rocco Zippenspeed Good point, good point.
Oh my, thank you for the pdf link. I just learnt what "direct" stands for.
I like how when the pics of toontown 2 started getting made the updates for toontown started lacking
Pause at 6:39 and the fast message will say "ZOMG KORY EN DA HAOS"
the middle of the video, the feels.
4:05 What's the music called?
This is beautiful. Well done.
Might I make a suggestion? I suggest lowering the music volume a little bit, as it's hard to hear your voice. Great video though.
The music at 4:05
It is pretty sad.
Thank you so very much for making this video! Your efforts will not be taken for granted! >3
I remember right at the beginning when I started, it was between the clarabelle catalog update and the fishing update which brought the number of fish from 50 up to 70 with a "new species migration" way before even sellbot hq. ah, good times. can't wait till the software developers are finished with the new TT :D
New tt?!
not exactly new, just "rewritten" look up toontown rewritten. they're making a free TT that's basically the same as the old one it's being done by a bunch of coders and stuff
toontown was released before my birthday!
Rip toontown online rip may you live on in our memories
ROGER DOG!!! btw why did they close it on THE ANIVERSERY :(
My childhood had it since Year 2... wow
Holy shit I remember when a lot of this stuff was new. I played from like... '02-'06... God it was so fun. But I never played it after.
Sonic, mario, and other musics like these... i like it! :)
What is the music at the start?
Ahh, i remember all the old districts that got removed. Good times
Maybe Toontown Rewritten will put something there, like the supposed "Cog Nation" update that Disney never delivered.
Lol
I join when polar place was new, I'm an old character, though now my beloved game will crumble...
should've kept the knock off a suit part for SBHQ failure
After ten years of fun toontown closed it's doors for good but that same day toonbook anoused toontownrewritten will be coming out soon don't forget to put that in there
1:14 I remember that create a toon thing! I think it was still up in 2005 when I joined! or 2006. :/3:14 I also remember this. xD Only I think it was different- doodles existed before the one I know. :/4:44 I signed up for the trading card thingy. I wish I still had em though. They were SO COOL.10:05 I REMEMBER THESE. GET ON IT TTR.that is all. :3
2007 is when I started toontown I was 4 I was scared to defeat the flunky..
dude this is so cool i started in 2005 i was 5 then im so sad it closed
Disney: Happy Birthday ToonTown,
We are closing the game. You will never See it again, Happy Birthday ToonTown.
many guys said TT will open again in 18 november and its gonna close on december 2014
amazing game! (up until the field offices but that can be pardoned)
Ahh memories. I still wish Disney focused more on Toontown than Club penguin. :(
On August 20th 2013 Disney announced the shutter of Toontown. On September 19th 2013 Toontown was shut down
ive played game since came out i have not noticed anything since this video you remided me why i play and what happen
And toontown closes its USA servers (Main) in a month. 9/19/2013 So sad and furious. But on the bright side, everyone is a member up until the closing date.
This was made before the news.
It's sad they are no longer around.
they weren't making enough money, so they closed all of their minimal profit games to focus on club penguin. hackers played a very small role in the closure. if you didnt already know, you can sign up for Toontown Rewritten or Toontown Infinite and play it. they are in-development though, with new features to come.
thanks
Cosmo X Not Toontown Infinite. It is being closed as of 12/20/14 because they hacked Toontown Rewritten and got caught doing so.
AwsomeCrazyMan12321 HAH! YES! I hated their community anyways.
OMG I'M IN THIS
IN THE TTC PART, I'M THE USER WITH THE BLUE CAT WITH THE NERD GLASSES AVATAR
When was Toontown a much happier place? Before boarding groups. 'Nuff said.
ZOMG KORY EN DA HAOS
Great video man. Keep it up!
...and we'll never find out what was behind the tunnel in Chip And Dales.
I remember when polar place used to be called penguin place. Lol. I've played since the gam's beta.
I remember playing from 2004 all the way to 2011 when I cancelled my subscription.
i remember when there were no hackers
Me too.
I freaking hate hackers i wish they never even were alive .-. hackers vs glitchrers? my opinion is glitchers/
I made my first toon back in 2006. Dizzilla Koopie Koo is her name and she is trap less. I wish I would have joined sooner! :(
where is the picture you found for flippys faces? i like his old design
