Such an unexpectedly prominent percussive presence. By the end there is an overwhelming urge to dance! Exciting to hear Robert's sensibility in this context. When I got Discipline as a young man I was coming from Red and Islands and such, emerging from a more psychedelic / rock / '60s and '70s space and hadn't yet found Roxy Music or Eno, let alone the Dolls or all the adventurous music I associate with the New York scene. I may have had Speaking in Tongues but never connected it to a whole scene. Now - forty years later! - I can relate this to funk and hip hop and punk and crossover acts. It is truly wonderful that Robert is sharing these tracks on RUclips, the music is great and I have been making so many wonderful discoveries. And amazing to realize that I love to look backwards and find historical trends, yet at the time Robert and David and the other gifted creators were assembling what they found around them and pushing into the future.
I remember hearing of the band Japan when I was young, but I never gave them much thought at the time. I assumed they were just another mediocre "new wave" band, and of course I was a total prog/fusion snob as a young man (thankfully I grew out of that phase by my early 20s). And it's funny, now two albums that I LOVE and I always find myself always going back to listen to and enjoy feature members from Japan: 1. Polytown - featuring Mick Karn, Terry Bozzio and David Torn 2. Damage - the live Sylvian/Fripp album (which I think is even better than "The First Day")
Amazing. It’s at the level of the best King Crimson
Happy meeting! It sounds powerful as ever... blows our minds! ❤
Best song on the album! This blows my mind every time.
Toll sylvian und fripp❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The rhythm of this track carries you along from the beginning to the end. And to think that today creating a 17-minute song seems like pure anarchy.
Thank you so much Robert (and David)! Awesome album and i love this track!
Músicos que entregan un gran legado en el mundo musical
