I got 12.3.6 last night, it’s amazing!!!
Me too (04/30/24), I cannot wait to drive today. I WFH so every day after work I go to the navigation screen and choose "Lucky" and choose the first destination and then add "Home" to get out of the house. It should show me some new tricks today on the ride.
For robotaxi, voice input at times of departure and arrival could be very useful. It would allow you to verbally direct the car out of a weird exit or into a weird entrance when maps are not adequate.
16:15 Captain Obnoxious here: Yes, staying in the parking lot's "travel lanes" and going around the parking spaces rather than wantenly barrelling across them is good practice, even when the lot is "empty". There could be oblivious pedestrians on their phones and kids on skateboards or bicyclists about, and the more predictably the car is moving, the less leeway murphy has for mischief.
Wow, mind-blowing. Now we need a voice output. Like the latest Figure 01 demo. Actually liked that voice. With filling "umm"s. Now imagine how the car will speaks to you, in a case of incorrect map navigation " umm, äh..right umm, nope left" or a NY taxi voice "$#%@damned map data.." we need custom voice avatars...imagine Douglas Adam's is making comments on prius driver...grok we need you here
At 2:09, according to an AI search, FSD was correct to stop where it did: "When the stop line is after the stop sign, you should stop at the stop sign itself, not at the line. However, if there is no stop line, you should stop at the crosswalk (if marked) or at the edge of the sidewalk. If neither a crosswalk nor a sidewalk is present, stop at the edge of the intersection1. "
Thanks John for your invaluable contribution. Keep doing what you do!
To my surprise, I went from 12.3.4 to 12.3.6 this morning. Can’t wait to give it a go.
It would be nice to get favorite routes of some kind stored . Not necessarily the ones it computes for you .
Words matter! FSD does not need to ignore he stop sign. The sign is very important. But perhaps FSD does need to "understand" that the sign is poorly placed and make an adjustment for the sake of practicality and safety.
So each and every TSLA EV is a super AI computer now. Stunning.
You’re going to love 12.3.6
Early reports on it seem more positive than for 12.3.5
A robotaxi might accept voice input, “you can drop me here,” or “drop me at the entrance.”
Right on.
Had a short drive on 12.3.6 and it was much quicker and more assured. Previously it was so slow it held up traffic.
Me too, just got 12.3.5 yesterday even with 12.3.6 rolling out.
You've inspire me to get a move on! After watching this I'm going to go get a shower, hop in Perl and try out V12.3.5 for the first time. I'm not expecting Ego to be able to drive down my driveway, nor to handle the ditch-constrained-too-tight three-way stop and turn at the end of my street, but I'd love to be astonished. V12.x has driven between barely acceptable to excellently just about everywhere I've had it drive me in the last 1300 miles or so, but only after I'm over a half-mile from the house. As far as I can tell, it fails in the near-domicile area due to a variation on bad or insufficient planning, and a fix to that would require a more substantive fix than I'd expect from simple tuning of the existing model.
Fun vid! I saw the first Cybertruck zoom by in VA today. Holy cow, it looked wiiiilddd in person.
I think I read somewhere that Elon said that the map is a crutch. Ita needed to know the route, but in the end FSD goes by what the camera sees. What if they take out a 4 way stop and put in a roundabout? FSD would need to recognize it's a roundabout and act accordingly.
let’s be clear about this, Shannon: *HD maps* specifically are a crutch, not *all maps* in general!
Your roundabout scenario is a perfe*c example of why that is, but if the car has no clue about what direction it needs to go, it would just drive randomly until it got stuck somewhere. 😂
Problem with that is the camera can't see far enough ahead to know the proper lane to be in. If the car would update navigation when it realizes the best lanes than all other cars would benefit.
I have direct experience with that scenario. In a small town I pass through, two funky intersection was replaced by a pair of roundabouts. FSD (11.4.9 through 12.3.4) figured out the change before the maps were updated. V11 wasn't graceful, but V12 handles them as smoothly as I can.
Yes, maps are for route planning, not for steering.
Elon says a lot of dumb sh1t.
Take anything he says with a grain of salt
Just got 12.3.6. V12 is stellar, I’m lovin’ it. I see two bad bugs though. Training will fix them soon I’m sure. 1) Making a right onto the main road at a specific intersection, you can also make a quick U turn onto an on-ramp. When it takes the right, it goes a little to sharp and recovers by taking the on-ramp. 11 never did that. 2) On Route 25, it thinks the route signs are speed limit signs. I’ve seen a few others report similar glitches. When it gets the limit wrong, it’s bad. If it thinks the limit is 25, I think it won’t let you go over 40 no matter what you do, as it seems to have a 15-over rule?
14:31 There was a time or two when 12.3.4 moved over prematurely into turn-only lane for me (just as 12.3.5 did on you right here). I was in heavy traffic, so I couldn't wait to see if it was going to correct the goof.
That was a cool moment when it figured out to turn left inspite of the faulty nav info.
Interesting that the actual driving is independent of the navigation
as it should be, navigation is merely a suggestion
Thank you for keep training FSD. You’re very brave. I get very nervous when FSD gets aggressive.
Again he does not train AI... He even explained how it works in this video.
He is sending the AI information by using the FSD. That’s what I meant.
Mind blown... it's getting so good so fast...
Transferring one person’s ability into others will allow them to make the skilled movements of the original, however, the new people may not have the muscle memory, or strength, therefore, they won’t be able to duplicate the ability of the original person.
@ Dr Know - you need to a video explaining how Tesla has basically “trained” there cameras to work like lidar. There are others now doing this. A group from NVDA came in first place for building 3D occupancy networks.
Awesome progress
Your Y did just fine. The white vehicle should legally yield to and merge with the flow of the main road when joining. Not a jerky thing to do at all :-)
The car is supposed to know your prejudice against a Prius????
Maybe when they have so much compute that they can train for individual drivers.
Hey, Did you hear about that new lay-off that apparently happened at 3 am? . Pretty cool. The best part is not parts or employees. Fush a few charging engineers. Who needs them?. Lord Elon will do it himself.
I think of training and inference a bit differently than the way I understood you to describe them. To me training is more like coaching, when you present the student with different situations / environments / events, etc., and instruct the students on how to react to those things. Good instructors make sure the students actually understand the why of the choice of reactions. Then practicing, (and playing), the student / player observes the situation and using inference makes a choice of how to react and executes that choice, {and wins or loses depending on how well they were trained and how well they inferred what they should do and how well they did it.}
After using FSD for a month in San Francisco, I find there are places it keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. It turns into the wrong lane, tries to go straight in turning lanes, and a couple of times has tried to run red lights.
Thanks
More impatience from the Good Dr..
Will the inference request be all the objects and road parameters? Then it would generate a response of what the car should do?
Wow, that rerouting was impressive. Seems like it's planning far ahead and the internal pathfinder detected a shorter route to reach the road (than the map showed) once it detected that left turning lane. 🤯 I'm blown away
I my brief experience v12.3.5 is not that different from the previous version , I don’t know what the release is for? Tesla needs to fix navigation and map. My Tesla on FSD 12.3.5 doesn’t stop either in front of my house or the gym, it’s confused most of the time.
It looks like changes to the FSD model are happening in 12.X releases. There is a lot of internal testing involved. These are just minor tweaks. There may be something like instructions given to the model sort of like how ChatGPT is preloaded with instructions before you talk to it so it doesn’t tell you how to make a bomb and they may make some changes to those instructions.
Will the Dojo compute power be free to be switched over to Optimus when the FSD training is completed?
Tesla should put an Ethernet port in a convenient external location to get better data throughput and performance. Could be useful for inference later
That is just incredible. It made its own choices, when it was told to make a poor one
Don't be too mind blown. I have 12.3.6 and have had it make a right turn into the bike lane (twice). It had to cross a solid white line to get into the bike lane treating it like a car travel lane (it was a wide bike lane). Big oops there. On the plus side, it actually recognized a 15 MPH school zone for the very first time.
When you pull up to a Stop Sign and it tends to wait, obviously look around like you’ve always done, then tap the accelerator peddle and FSD will continue.
I live in Athens as well!
Agree interesting that it recognized a left turn lane and over-rode (pardon the pun) the map data.
Just went on my first two showroom test drives including one drive with FSD.
Usage questions:
1. How to set destination with voice?
2. How do you set "AutoMax" for speed?
6:05 waiting for you to stop the car.
do you ever use the aggressive profile?
@24:30 what are those purple flashes on top of the rear view mirror & where the front camera mount is at
Here in Oz, 2 or 3 over would soon result in a fine ... many do it though
Priuses in California are always the fast car .
Using tesla to mine bitcoin would be a great idea.
Main problem I have had while driving in Arkansas and Missouri is they have the wrong speed limits and lot of the time.
If we have in future a FSD AGI running in all model's, and as licensed versions in every car. The inference could be used for our Neuralink holodeck vacation. The cars would be our intense broadband uplink to AGI.
You must never ignore Stop sign, that just cowboy driving and offense. But yeah, they need to improve the 3 Stop sign positions. In this case, it should have stoped where the two roads meet.
It can't do inference until it has the model. Models are large and take a lot of bandwidth to load.
yeah it is interesting that it could shortcut the navigation which is just behavior it has been exposed to. but it must mean that it can see the navigation line ahead not just the next step in navigation. It must have a kind of pixel map view
Tesla's AI is already smart enough not to blindly trust data, that is often incorrect, incomplete, or outdated. But in some areas it creates problems. Nav data is correct, but there is some catch, like opening a gate or a strange lane change required, that FSD does not know about ahead of time. From all the videos I have seen so far, it looks like it is about 50/50 whether the FSD or Nav is right in the conflicting scenarios. My 'robotaxi approach' would be to somehow make FSD try the nav data first for at least a few seconds. And proceed in its own style only if it does not work. Then mark the spot as dubious, for the rest of the fleet.
Why doesn’t Tesla add cameras to front fenders to eliminate need to creep for visibility at stop signs 2:47
How do you go to full screen mode? My model S Plaid I have never seen that option!
Can’t you just drag the visualization to the right? Look in the center of the display there should be a little dark gray bar you can interact with.
@@ThatGuyThatGames24 I’ll give that a try. Thank you! I just got V11.3.5 last night. I’m excited!
@@DonBrowningRacing you’re welcome! Hopefully it works, enjoy the update!
What about the stop signs that have no white lines
Street lines are not a priority, it looks at surroundings like a human driver to make decisions.
Training ..is like learningto play musical instruments.. lpractice is 99%
In the uk the stop sign must paid attention to. Creeping up to the line is reasonable for a Robot!😂
The google empire may strike back... we have a Tesla rebel on our hands! @24:30 you have a bit of an IR situation going on there. What's that about? I think with the deviations from the google sillyness, we are witnessing baby AGI here! LFG!!!!
Rasist Gemini will file complain LOL
At 24:30, what were those blinking lights next to the interior camera? I thought it was just a camera there.
What were the flashing lights above the Rear View mirror at 24:30?
IR lights for the internal camera. He mentioned that he coverd it.
Tesla has upped its reality distortion field, through approval of FSD in China.👍😂
Segway-o-rama...
Can't believe how long you took to make your "inference" point.
At 7:24 in I still had no idea what the point DKIA was getting around to, so I ditched.
why is the quality.. ähm not so good ? love the video tho
What happens if a pedestrian just stand there and does not walk onto the crosswalk? Will the Tesla just stop and then move on, or will it wait forever?
It continues like a human would - FSD tester
Clearly you need to not self- drive when explaining a topic: “Squirrel!”😂
Greate showcase how FSD is leveling up your productivity. [If you come over how great FSD is]
Okay, I've watched you leave your neighborhood DOZENS of times now. The stop sign is in the WRONG location. It's behind the damn neighborhood frontage. It's not the car's fault.
It looks like it got 99.9% right but it needs 99.9999% right to put it to robotaxi to handle real world situations.
It will get there. Maybe 100% right!
Typically Tesla FSD prompts the driver to tug the steering wheel every 20 seconds or so.
I am not seeing this behavior on Johns drive.
Is this an option?
perhaps it knew dollar general was closed?
Wow! You bought Bitcoin!
When will the cars start taking to each other?
Maha, with voices over the outside loudspeaker. With Elons humor they will talk loudly about their customers.
Now serious, technical it's getting important for efficient convoy driving. So the Semis will be the first.
I just got 12.3.5 downloaded. Check my phone and no option to install… strange.. loaded up your video and checked again.. another update downloading? 12.3.6! Guess I won’t get to try .5 😂
Those two pink lights above your rear mirror look like the eyes of a demon
When are you going to interview Elon musk?
I think 12.3.6 is for the teslas with uss. Can someone confirm?
Guys someone help a brother out:
Is the china deal about autopilot or FSD. I have seen contradictions abound. Help. Love this channel
I think the reality is that we just don’t know. Nothing has been formally confirmed to the best of my knowledge.
@@edwardhackett-jones8126 to get the confirmation that “we don’t know” is very helpful too. Thank you. I am going to find this link and share, commin back
Every time I watch an FSD video, it seems like the host is comparing it to how they would drive. Inevitably they say something like "I wouldn't have done it quite like that", as if they expect FSD to drive the way they do. But everyone has a different style of driving. Different habits, different tendencies. FSD is an amalgamation of different drivers, an average. No one should expect FSD to perform every maneuver the same way they would.
stop signs are proving to be a major PITA. it's not always where the line is either and that is IF there is a line. On my residential street there is no line and the imaginary line the stop sign makes is not the same as visually having line of sight. so it has to stop. then creep until it finally sees. etc etc. It takes 15s or more for it to get thru my streets stop sign when I'd do it in 2 or 3 tops.
How many coffees do you drink in the morning? 😅
I played with 12.3.4 some. Acceleration and slowing down are very aggressive for rural towns. Otherwise it is getting much much better at handling the wonky roads in rural IA, MN, & WI. Every road department has their own ideas on how roads should be laid out.
They skipped 12.3.5 for me, and 12.3.6 is being installed now. I guess they like how I'm torturing FSD.
On AI and using the car's processor. It's a data problem. How does one get the data to the car to process? AI is a huge data problem. The data IO needed is greater than mainframes need. A car could greater pre-process the data it gathers from it's own cameras. I don't see it being worth it to use it to process other data due to phone and WIFI data network transfer speeds and costs.
In my state, drivers are supposed to stop in line with the stop sign.
Isn’t the entire purpose of a stop line to show you where to stop?
You still have that ratte noise in your mic for your car rides. Would be great if you could fix that.
I found the video a bit confusing. Can you please make a video about interference without mixing it up with riding?
YOU ? Speechless ?.? WOW ! ! !
Tangential "speeches" with unrelated re-entry points are both humorous and confusing. If an A.I. knows how to make coffee, wash a cup, find a sweet roll and napkin plus is aware of YOUR presence in time and space - that's smart. If you say make me coffee, get me a sweet roll, serve it to me in my coffee cup and don't forget a napkin. The A.I. will attempt to follow the request in the order given - and FAIL. Inference will cause the A'.I. to re-order the instructions to successfully fulfill the request as you INTENDED.
Well that is my problem with the FREE 30 day FSD trial 12.3.3 I am using till June 9th. I don't completely trust this feature. I never know if it will do the right moves, makes me very nevous at times. If I have to do this all the time, I might as well drive the vehicle myself. I definitely will not buy this feature when my free trial is completed. All I say is, thanks to Elon for letting me try FSD.
Reality must be a tough place for you lot.
Another over caffenated, Nervous Nancy, hyperactive FSD review from Dr Know it all 😮 Relax dude. Geesh.
11:09 One measure of improvement is ones reaction to challenges:
V10: uh oh, I've got an unprotected left.
V11: hmmm, let's see how we fail the unprotected left this time
V12: dang it! I wanted to do an unprotected left!
😂
Unprotected left hand turns are extremely dangerous with the latest version according to Chuck. He had number of close calls.
I still find Dr KIA camera location annoying.
Totally ridiculous setup.
All I see is rear-view mirror - of his face.
Chuck Cook has way better setup.
Learn from the master.
No it should not ignore the stop sign, your city should Mark the lines properly. That is why so many people ignore you.
How about not being an arse? The system needs to react to the different kinds of stops.
It will learn over time. Some places the sign should be ignored, others the line should be ignored, still others you ignore both.
FSD drives at 10 mph for some reason on local streets near my house. Not ready for prime time.
Serena Williams was beat by a teenage boy. Ill take Roger Federer thank you VM
Recognising the vehicle as a slow mover is not a valid thing!!
If FSD can recognize speed and acceleration of each vehicle and overlay over each car it would become great.
But it is a problem when ego starts to creep forward when it projects the nav path into oncoming traffic.
See Chuck Cook’s disastrous 12.3.6 experience yesterday. Huge critical safety regressions.
