This has been a problem for me and I have even broken my hand from one tripping episode, when I mentioned to my doctor that I kept tripping, they just shrugged their shoulders. You are the first one I have seen to address the issue. Thank you.

In the last five years I have fallen upstairs several times finally realizing that my left foot isn’t clearing the top of the stairs. I’m definitely doing this exercise! Thank you.
Your videos are the best. Everytime I see my doctor I tell him about one of the problem areas in my body, including brain fog, memory problems, shaking in my feet and hands, falling out of bed in my sleep, arthritis starting up in my hands. His reaction since end of 2019: "Don't worry about it.' Thus the problems are compounding over time and everything is getting worse. (Definitely need a new doctor!) I'm only 56 and somehow I've got to live with everything getting worse for, probably, a couple more decades. Thank goodness for people like yourself who can actually provide exercises I can do (without falling over) and others on RUclips who provide advice on health. I can't thank you enough.
I've been noticing that I'm catching my foot on the ground, its quite scary as I'm worried about falling over and its affected my confidence little, this simple exercise is a lifesaver. Thanks so much. Also love the non flashy way of teaching with no background music or noise.
I totally appreciate your fear as I’d been noticing I was catching my toe on stairs, and was starting to be concerned. THEN, on holidays overseas, I caught my toes on a curb and smashed, face first, into the ground. I fractured one eye-tooth deep inside my gums, scraped one side of my face and mouth, plus broke my nose in 2 places. Great way to start a 6 week vacay 8 days in. For the rest of our holiday, one side of my face and mouth was very puffed and scraped. My swollen eyes were lovely shades of black, blue, purple-red, and yellow, accessorizing my big swollen nose. I scared children! My fractured tooth hung on till I returned home, probably because the swelling pressure kept it in place. So, after watching this video, I have already started doing this exercise. 😅
Me too. I tripped and badly Jared my lower back and was in agony for weeks and was prescribed heavy painkillers by my doctor. I will definitely be doing this exercise ❤

35 years as an OT and haven't been able to convince several MD's, PA's, NP's - WHY I have to manually pull my left leg into the car and also use door jamb to do the one stair into my home=hip flexors! One nurse practitioner sent me to a prosthetic company to have them make me an AFO! I had several back surgeries and many falls in the following years so I'm sure hip flexors not working on the left. By just watching your video I pulled out a stool and even though I knew I couldn't do it, I tried to follow your demo and I could lift my right leg with difficulty but not the left to put it up on the stool. Right leg had a lot of pain in the tendons on the top of that foot and also the right hip but I was able to do it. Needless to say I'm saving this video, and now I will know how to demonstrate to these uninformed doctors what the real problem is! I cannot thank you enough for this demonstration👍🤗
i'm an 81 yr.old retired exercise and sports science professional who stills does weight training and competitive swimming. i'm very fit and active. however, the past year has seen me falling, tripping a dozen times with no major consequences. when i was coaching track and field years ago one of the phrases i used with my runners for proper sprinting technique was " KNEE UP, TOE UP". i find myself saying this to myself lately!!!! it affects most of us in the "golden years" give it a try.
I will be turning 49 this year and because of living a sedentary life the last 10 years I have a lot of out of weak muscles. Thank you for your advice.
My problem with tripping, at the age of 80, is that my concentration goes for a moment. It's not good to talk and walk at my age. I can't seem to manage both at the same time! Good advice on the stepping up. Thank you.
You’ve just lost your capability of “walking and chewing gum” ‘cuz you’ve lost “muscle memory”. As “youngsters” we didn’t have to think about walking without falling because our bodies were well accustomed to doing the whole process - our bodies REMEMBERED how to work! We get sedentary as we age, simply because we don’t have enough interesting things to keep us up and going in our later years!!
I have to add here that I am 49 and I have ADHD. My concentration goes out 100x per day and I am very prone to tripping. It's absolutely true, I can't walk and talk, cook and talk, drive and talk. I never have been able to my whole life. Everyone knows in my family to stay quiet in the car, and my husband always offers me his arm.
Too many people give up too early and move to a one story house instead of staying where there are stairs. Stairs are the BEST workout for the whole body I've ever found. I'm 66 and am still in my four story Victorian house, stairs are my best friend!
I have had 3 falls this year causing some serious injuries, so now I always use a walker out of fear. Thank goodness your video appeared so I gave it a watch and tried the exercise - while thinking it wasn’t going to be much help for me. What a shock to realize one leg could not do the movement! I immediately did 10 very difficult repetitions and have set a timer for more practice. THANK YOU for doing this video, you may have saved me from another fall!
Until nearing age 70, I had never in my life broken a bone. Then I tripped on a garden hose, fell and chipped an elbow. I'm thinking if I had adopted these exercises THEN, perhaps I wouldn't have tripped again a few years later, making a two-point landing that shattered both elbows! Needed repeat surgeries and have had pain and limited range of motion ever since. I recently did a 'face plant', thanks to a trip in my house, and I realize at this age, it's imperative that one NOT be TRIPPING. I'll add these exercises to what I already do, hoping to be careful and stay whole 'for the duration.' Wishing everyone else good safety, too.
This is a compact and simple exercise. Nicely explained 👌 Level 1 is Ankle dorsi flexor Level 2 is Hip flexor. Advisable start with : *15 Reps (2 sets) on weak leg. *15 Reps (1 set) on strong leg. Morning Session. Evening Session. Increase the Sets after a week in both sessions
I did these exact exercises and others I found on Google to fix my drp foot injury..10 times three times a day…and more. It fixed it can drive again..thank you I’ll resume these again.
Thank you VERY much 4 this! I have Multiple Sclerosis and AWFUL foot drop. I fell and really hurt myself a few weeks ago and wound up in the ER for 5 hours - thankfully I didn't break anything (thank God!)
Thank you so much I have been tripping since I was 25 when I was first pregnant and my ankles would give way. I am now 81 and still tripping. I believe this is the miracle exercise I have been waiting for. I will keep you posted. Thank you 🙏🏼 From a grateful Great-Grandmother from Down yonder NZ
I tripped even last week and knocked hard on my left knee bone 😢 yes like you said I'm loosing confidence. My problem is the hip due to spinal damages. Thank you for the video ❤
Thank you so much !!! as a nurse ... moving on in age and surrounded by ageing people ( working in aged care ) I am so grateful to be able to make a difference now that I've learned this from you. Thank you!.
Thankyou for sharing doctor.I've finished eight weeks of doing exercises and I'm walking without any pain now.I stopped eating a certain variety of rice about ten days ago,as friend told me it increases the body heat. From five days later,I don't experience knee pain too. This piece of information may help you to help your patients.Im extremely grateful to you doctor for all the videos which helped me to walk straight again.I still get a slight knee pain when I walk.So I'll continue to practise the exercises and watch your videos.💐💐💐🌹🌹🌹🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
Thank you Will. As always you provide us with excellent information. This will be very useful for me at 73. I am always scared of tripping and falling. Blessings to you for keeping us informed
i watch you almost every day as i do not want to miss any instruction for pain on the toes. (only on the right leg) It hurts more at night time and could not sleep well. I started watching your instruction to fix poor and unbalanced walk. Your are always clear very detailed. Thank you.
My friend was tripping balls we told him do not take two hits. We found your video and got him to walk and lift his feet and swing his legs a little, he did not stop tripping, but it helped him to get outside the change of scenery helped a little, he went from tripping bad, to a better trip.
Just tripped this morning coming up the porch stairs. First time I couldn't save myself and scuffed my palms. When I know better I do better. Thank you so much.
This is a great exercise that I have needed for a few years. I thought tripping was due to my foot neuropathy, but I can see that this will work. Thank you very much.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this. I will be doing it right away. I took a very bad spill the other day right on the sidewalk. Gratefully, nothing happened to me.
My trouble with my walking stick has been the feeling of trippin ! I learned to put my foot & stick forward evenly instead of a lunge. This exercise tip strengthens my hip & shin muscles more. I really appreciate your videos overall, especially this one ! 💗🙏
Thank you so much! I've been diGnosed eith MS, but also I have donated my left kidney which might have affected the lower abdominal muscles on the left which I m thinking could modt probably be the cause for feeling permanent pressure there and gradually having lost the agility of my left leg. I 've been using EMS, but not that often to have any results. I hope the exercise you've shown us will work out. It's much easier than carrying pads and wires around with you.
I have been tripping for many years now as I also had been walking/hiking oftentimes, but tripping came with the territory, so to speak. Especially near to end of trail or shopping or when tired even at home. You identify clearly why I tend to trip. I am a little weak in precisely those areas you point out and including lower back issues. I do wear orthotics for plantar faciitis and RA. My challenges might not be noticable, but they are real. And tripping slightly on uneven surfaces and stairs is a reality. Concentration when a bit tired is defnitely also a thing to consider. This exercise will also improve muscle memory. I thought my vision - I wear prescription glasses with multifocal lenses - was not helpful. So, with this presentation comes more understanding. The issue with tripping is in fact a multi faceted issue. In short, one might say it's because of aging. 😋 Someone even mentions ADD, adding to the other reasons. It's all of the above for me. Tripping is humiliating at any age 🥴 but falling is also a scary experience - that slow motion familiar feeling. 😱 😱 😱 😵 🙈
Thank you so much for this! Tripping over in the street, or even at home, is one of my worst fears. From watching this, I'd say the issue is in my ankles. I'm extremely young for my age (so I'm constantly told!) and I want to stay that way. Perhaps this exercise could even be the key for gaining more confidence when walking the demented one of my 2 small dogs! Only time will tell!!! Fab video. Now subscribed!😊
Thank you for the exercise lesson. I've had several bad falls. I can barely stand myself up some days. I fall a lot in my yard (grass clumps). This is perfect for me. 🎉 God bless you.
I have MS and one of my first symptoms is foot drop. Had many falls while walking over the years including a few weeks ago but I will do this exercise now and hope it helps. Thanks for this video
Interesting. I'm 72 and pretty active. I never trip on a sidewalk or pavement, but on uneven trails (e.g. with a rock sticking up). I think the Dorsiflex idea is correct, but in my case, I cycle a lot and have very tight hamstrings/calfs which oppose the dorsiflexor (if that's the right word). In other words, because the calf is tight it doesn't let the Dorsiflexor do its thing as well. Another thing I found was that my sunglasses have progressive lenses, and this makes seeing those protrusions clearly harder than no lenses or maybe just polarized lenses. But your exercise is worth trying. Thanks.
This is exactly how I tripped and landed on my wrist, breaking it. I'm 70, female, and a prime candidate for falls. The areas you mention are where I feel pain right now but will do these exercises once things are okayed by my doc. Not lifting my foot seems to be more common right now.
I thought you might like to hear of my experience. Ten years ago I had my right knee replaced and five years later also my left. Ever since I have noticed that I often catch my foot, particularly on uneven ground. I never seem to catch them when going up steps, just when the ground is uneven and I guess I'm not expecting the change in clearance. I saw your video and have given it a try. I was amazed how after just a few reps I could feel the muscles in my shin and at the front of my hip pulling so I am sure this exercise will help me. Thankyou for doing this video, now all I need is something that will help my shoulders. I am having trouble raising my arms above my shoulder height as I get severe pain right inside the shoulder joint. I will certainly follow your videos as I find your explanations superior to my doctors. I am 73 years old so certainly fit the age group you help. Good work!!!
I watched a video of yours and then bought the book. I am 74 and walk for at least 2 hours every day taking my dog out. I now do not need painkillers and have ditched my stick. Very good book. Thank you.
..just fractured the 2nd toe, right foot.. soo glad i happened on this!... just tried these simple exercises, soo powerful. had no idea how weak the front hip joints were, thank you.
I would like to echo all of the positive comments below. Excellent presentation. I wonder though, about asking viewers to "like" your video before they have viewed it.
Thank you for doing these videos. I find them very helpful. I’ve increased my exercise and steps over the last few weeks and find great benefits. The balance exercises are very useful and timely as I’ve just recently noticed that I catch my toe more easily which could result in a nasty fall. Your explanations are easy to follow and given at a perfect speed. 🙏
Thank you so much for addressing this problem. I am 80 years old and have had two knee replacements. I usually take 2 yoga classes per week. I am very limber, but, I keep tripping. Now I know why. Thanks so very much.

Thank you, I have MS and have had some issues with foot drop. I will be definitively be trying these exercises and I am glad to know that I can hold on to something because I have very poor balance.
yThank you, I have mentioned it before to my doctors and .... nada. This explains why I trip on my foot walking forward and taking a step to the side and back, I felt like my brain was not telling my foot to move. I will do these. and buy your book

Exactly what I need! The explanation for the reasons behind the tripping are extremely helpful and the exercise looks quite straightforward. I am going to add this exercise to standing on one leg to help with balance. Hopefully, doing both will help me with the tripping and balance.
This is great. I had been 'scuffing' the ball of my foot, particularly when tired and when wearing certain (stiffer) shoes. I told my GP who had me see MSK guy who referred me to a podiatrist. This was weeks ago and I'm still waiting. Now I can try this and walk with more confidence.

I usually look out for these time stamps, but on this occasion it was an interesting intro.
Thank you 🙏🏼
@@gmr1241how do u look out for these time stamps?? Please???
I will definately try. As falling down really scares me.afraid of breaking some bone and what follows is dependence.
This is a compact and simple exercise.
Nicely explained 👌
Level 1 is Ankle dorsi flexor
Level 2 is Hip flexor.
Advisable start with :
*15 Reps (2 sets) on weak leg.
When I first glanced at this headline, I thought it said, "How to stop trippin' when you think."
I know a lot of folks who need that tip.
Thank you VERY much 4 this! I have Multiple Sclerosis and AWFUL foot drop. I fell and really hurt myself a few weeks ago and wound up in the ER for 5 hours - thankfully I didn't break anything (thank God!)
I was in car accidents many years ago and have multiple issues … I recently tripped … thank you so much.
I hate it when the floor reaches up and grabs my foot! 😂 Thank you for the exercise! I will be incorporating this daily.
😂
Thank you very much for your clear, precise and simple explanation on this exercises which is very useful to me
Thank you so much I have been tripping since I was 25 when I was first pregnant and my ankles would give way. I am now 81 and still tripping. I believe this is the miracle exercise I have been waiting for. I will keep you posted. Thank you 🙏🏼 From a grateful Great-Grandmother from Down yonder NZ
I like this, because it is simple and doesn't hurt.
Thank uou so much for an understandable explanation & demonstration!
I tripped even last week and knocked hard on my left knee bone 😢 yes like you said I'm loosing confidence. My problem is the hip due to spinal damages. Thank you for the video ❤
Thank you Will, I am 65 and have tripped several times. I also have bilateral hip replacements. I will be doing this exercise!
Wow! I am so glad for people like you who share info on how to be strong as we age. Who wants to be weak? Such a simple & effective exercise. 😊
I think we need something more than a "like" button...how about a LOVE button!😅 You are the best young man! A million thank yous!❤❤❤❤❤
At 65 I had started tripping on level floors and didn't know why. This really helps!
Thank you. I don’t have a problem with tripping, but my friend does. I’m going to pass this information on to her.
Wtf are you talking about???
Just tripped this morning coming up the porch stairs. First time I couldn't save myself and scuffed my palms. When I know better I do better. Thank you so much.
Very, very helpful!!! Now, I have to find out what to do since I have severe arthritis in my hips. No matter what, I am trying this!!!
You are so easy to listen to and your exercises aren’t overwhelming! Thank you
Yes, exactly. Trouble with sometimes “scuffing” the toe of my right foot and stumbling a bit. I’m 75 and will now do these exercises. BIg thank you!
Your videos and book have helped me no end! Thank you very much! If I was there I'd hug you.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad I found your channel, I've found your teachings and your explanations extremely helpful.
I never thought I will find an answer to my tripping issue in yt. Thanks
My trouble with my walking stick has been the feeling of trippin ! I learned to put my foot & stick forward evenly instead of a lunge.
This exercise tip strengthens my hip & shin muscles more. I really appreciate your videos overall, especially this one ! 💗🙏
I'm sorry to hear you've had some falls recently! I hope my tips can help to prevent future events for you :)
Thanks for the valuable advice.👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much! Your videos are extremely helpful! And your manner of crisp presentation is worthy of appreciation! Best wishes from India!
Thank you for the exercise lesson. I've had several bad falls. I can barely stand myself up some days. I fall a lot in my yard (grass clumps). This is perfect for me. 🎉 God bless you.
Yes! I needed this! I’m 79, post sepsis/meningitis, and have not gotten my balance back. Will start this today! Thanks, Will ! ❤
I have MS and one of my first symptoms is foot drop. Had many falls while walking over the years including a few weeks ago but I will do this exercise now and hope it helps. Thanks for this video
Thank you for this instructive video! I’m going to start today!
You explain very nicely.i am experiencing tripping.i am going to try this.will get back to you after 3 weeks for update
Thanks.
One would think that after 45 years of martial arts, tripping would not be a concern! Nope. Now i have an exercise to add to my routine!
Thank you, Will. You're the best. Love you're style.
What a pleasant experience. Thank you for not talking fast. Which others definitely do. Who do they think they're talking to anyway? There is one channel about circulation that continued to be too fast at 50% playback speed. His audience certainly isn't teens.
Well done! Clear, practical and effective for all ages.
OMG THIS IS AWSOME. I BROKE MY LEG 2 YRS. AGO 9 PINS IN IT ABOUT 6 INCHES ABOVE FOOT AND. ANKLE IM HAVING. THIS. PROBLEM THANK. YOU. SO MUCH .GOD Bless You !!!!
Thanks to RUclips for Suggesting this Video! Great information, I have been occasionally tripping for a few years and recently began catching my heal when going down stairs. I assume my knee problems contribute to my heel issue. I subscribed and will visit your site looking for more excellent guidance and general info to help me in my new octogenarian years.
Excellent video. Very good training video!
i have done a crap-load of physical therapy for various reasons, but always involving tripping, or the fear of it. this is so simple, i don't know why any of my therapist ever suggested this! i guess i just learned how a Physiotherapist differs from a physical therapist. i look forward to learning so much more from you!
Excellent instruction thank you
I am a 76 year old lady. I notice that I trip now and then when I go out for my walk. Thank-you for showing the exercise. It's simple and not difficult to do.
Very useful info that I had not seen before. Thanks!
Remarcable, thank you doctor, very useful, bless you.
Thank you!
Your tips are always helpful. I'm 86 and walk outside 6 or 7 days a week. Thanks. Be blessed.
Thanks mate, for what you do. We of the geriatric persuasion are very grateful for your efforts & information. Stay well & safe. Cheers.
I discovered you this morning , as a senior who has had a visit to the emergency room , I think I will benefit from your instructions ❤🎉❤😊 I look forward to discovering more from the past, present , and future you. Thank you 👍👍👍🍀🌟🍀🖖🖖🖖🤜🔔🤛👋🏻🧝🏼🤚🏻
You are a REAL GEM 💎 i came across yr channel whilst scrolling down looking for something quite different. Definitely recognise my left foot/leg/hip issue!
Thank you for your simple and clear instructions ❤ from Denmark 🇩🇰
Very grateful to find this. I’ve had several falls and they’ve mostly been caused by stubbing my toes on something in the ground.
Teaching not just telling. Thx!
Yes I had this after a car wreck where someone hit me from behind. I thought it more or less went away. But a few years back I started tripping. This video reminded me, to remember to pick my toes up. Thank you.
At 77 I have learned my toes are very much about balance and walking with not dragging my feet.
I'm working on hip flexors.
Thank you for the resistance band tutorials, just started. 😊
I'm pleased my videos have been able to offer some useful information and that the exercise tutorials are helpful - keep up the great work :)
