I found this searching for examples of how trumpets can blend with the rest of the brass section, and my faith is restored.
That tuba entrance is everything.
I personally think that the tuba part should be raised by one octave. Pedal is nice in theory but I think by raising it by one octave it creates a nice “gong” type sound when it mixes with the bass trombone.
OR
If you want that “rattle” sound, have the bass trombone and tuba switch notes during the big hit.
And the of course, the last few measures of the piece can remain the same as long as the tuba can sound more like a contrabass bassoon and make sure he/she is NOT overwhelming.
B-But pedal is cool
