New mic is 1000% better. When listening with ear buds I did not have to increase and decrease the volume between turning and voice. Thanks for the tips. As always, great video.
I always learn helpful things from your videos Tomislav. Your tips and techniques related to production turning and efficiency have been especially helpful to me. Your new microphone seems to be woeking very well. Cheers, Stuart
Very good video; really like the way you approach letting the wood stabilize before final turning. Hadn't thought of doing that to turning projects; it makes perfect sense. I did something similar to what you described when I was building furniture (haven't done that in a while) -- I would let the wood acclimate to the shop, then rip the boards to rough dimension, and let them settle before planing and jointing them. Since we live in a desert environment, that seemed to be sufficient; I didn't need to rough plane or joint the wood. The microphone sounds really good. It's easy to hear you and the machine sounds are greatly reduced.
One thing I do that you might like to try is I set my drill press up to make the hole for the worm screw to also be my depth hole, just speeds up production. I make tons of little bowls and batch cutting is a great way to spend the day at the lathe. Also the bowls are sized so I can clamp the foot and after the bottom is done the outer ridge fits over the outer part of the jaws, so l only change out worm out, just to cut down on too many tools to keep track of 😂
When I was first learning to use a lathe I made a large plate with a lip around it. It's made from camphor laurel and I use it all the time. I've had it for at least five years. It warps a little then goes back to flat. It's been in the microwave and has gained some patina of life and I wouldn't use anything else.
Hello Tomislav, what are the big lids blanks dimensions? I tend to work onto too small pieces and then I have problems in having good/desired results. I plan to "copy" your project as exactly as I can as a solid skill building exercises. Knowing the exact size you started with would help me a lot. Thanks.
Thanks! I tend to work in mini sizes, but this weekend I want to push myself into something bigger. This double bowl would be perfect @@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
Sound is good. Yes, wood warps, but if you're starting with the tree you can select for wood that won't warp as much--time of year you cut it, internal stresses--such things make a difference. I would like to know what you watch for to minimize problems and I think others would too.
You are completely right , a lot of factors play and even with that, its not a 100% thing.... Wood is natural and small change in humidity can couse to warp... Thank you very much for watching
If you ever get some extra time, would you show and explain the design rationale of the dust collection system close to your lathe? Thanks! Instructive video as usual! Cheers! Oh, and the mic/audio sounds top notch to me.
Thanks for feedback....🤗 I'll do design video on dust hood.... In meanwhile you can check out Richard Raffan's version, both are really the same.... He has it under workshop tour video
I watched Raffan's video. Thanks! Now I need to find a way to cut a 4-inch PVC pipe at a 45 degree angle. Maybe my lumber yard/hardware store has a huge miter saw of some sort. 🙂@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
Currently I use shotgun mic from Deity...works good but you have to position it so it Picks up voice and lathe noice but more on the side of the voice.... I plan on buying wireless mic to reduce cables....
Your new mic is really good. I listened to this video with ear buds and background noise levels are now reduced and your voice is also clearer. 👌 What video editing software are you using Tom. Thanks again.😊
Each of us are responsible for own safety, I feel comfortble using just safety glasses.... There is more to safety around the lathe then just face shield.... Thanks for feedback on sound😀
Hi, just to say your voice Mike and lathe mic are now far more balanced, I nolonger need to turn the level up for your voice and down for the lathe. Much better than before.
Sounds good realy love the way you turn your work

I too learn a lot about production turning from your videos as that is my main interest in wood turning. Also love your 4 ways projects. Denny H.
Picks up sound of the gouge on the wood much better. A hidden benefit to help understand your expert use of allowing tool to do the work. Love it ❤
Thank you very much sir ☺️
Excellent sound Tomislav and great lesson.

No worries, thank you for feedback
Your new microphone is a very big improvement. Excellent demonstration of having a finished shape in mind and then going quickly for the end result.

I like this idea. Good for using up small scraps.
Good job buddy

Great stuff Tomislav, as usual. What is the title of the video of the finished bowls? New mic sounds fine.
I really look forward to seeing the next step, and especially the finished product. Sound is great.
Awsome, thanks Joris
Stacking the odds in your favour. Great sound…what kind of microphone?
Aaaaa yes, thank you, I could not remember it🤗
Thank you for feedback, the mic is deity d4 mini, shotgun mic.
Mic works very well! Suppresses background noise--lathe, wind, whatever--but lets your voice come through clear.
Awsome, thank you for feedback and for watching 🤗

you must have studied under Richard Raffin - i can see his technique in most of what you do.
good video - good sound - good content - thank you

Its hard maple, works great but hard

Software is youcut and for sound I use lexia
@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning great and thank you.
I have learnt so much from you.
Microphone good. Sounds clear but gives you a bit of an accent, Ha. How many times did you sharpen for that stack of wood?
Thanks 🤗, Well I have accent since English isn't my native language....
I sharpen only once before starting.
@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning just kidding about the accent, you speak quite clearly. Incredible that you only have to sharpen once!
@@victorprimack2070 I would sharpen more if I was doing finish product.this rough stage is more forgiving.
Sound is good if you wear a face shield the shavings would not be hitting you in the face and wearing a face shield is safer
