The original mine was literally in the main street at one time, just up a little way from the old railway bridge. I don't know when it moved from that position. The old library was an annex to the Council building and cinema/theatre back in the Fifties. Now all long gone. I have no idea where the new library is. The Huntly Museum is probably the best place to check for a timeline of events.
When I grew up there in the 60s and 70s there was the Huntly town hall, which was also the picture theatre. A centre of town entertainment. I saw many a Saturday matinee there in my childhood. It was beautiful building with huge Romanesque pillars in front and a large clock high up that you could see from anywhere in the main street. It was built on the entrance site of the Ralphs mine. There were a couple of plaques on it commemorating that event. It was demolished sometime in the early to mid 70s because they deemed it unsafe. I think it was criminal to destroy that historical building. Look what is there today...right in the centre of town is the BNZ bank. That is the site. Weird thing is that I can't find one photo of this old historical building on the Internet.
According to a Wikipedia entry, the commission date is 1983; however... The original four generators were built between 1973 and 1985, and the station was upgraded with a gas turbine plant in 2004. A further upgrade in 2007 increased the station’s production of power from an original 1000 megawatts of electricity to 1485 MW.
Similar to multi-reactor nuclear power plants, any multi unit plant may begin generation when one unit is complete. Eg Karabakh nuclear power plant in the UAE, it's still under construction as of today, but its first reactor and ancillaries began generating power in 2020
You are incorrect stating that the Huntly power station was built in 1983 (started construction) 02:56 . I was working there in 1977 when Elvis Presley died, and it was well underway when I started there. What else is incorrect in this video, I wonder.
My grandfather, an ex-Huntly coalminer told me as a kid that the entrance to Ralph's Mine is located under the Huntly library building.
