The last people to live on here were 'Hapuiti' of Ruatipua and Puhaorangi lines. Te Wharerangi is the first born of this line. The son of Tukaiora (Ruatipua through Tohiora) and Te Maari (Puhaorangi through Pakau). This our korero to this place. My great great great great grandfather Te Wharerangi lived and died on this island. His blood was shed on this island in an act of chivalry. He saved the life of his enemy Te Rauparaha rather than allow his certain death on this island. 'Hapuiti' is who we are. Distinct from waka peoples'. Tuwharetoa have their korero as does Hollywood. The wairua of these people, resides only in these people. Only they can know. For us, this place is a departure lounge. Where waka people and not waka people come together, prior to entering the unseen world. We begin in the unseen world, live in a physical world, and to the spirit world we return. The invisible things of the world, are clearly understood, in the things that are seen. The term 'Hapuiti' symbolises a people that understand all things, on the same basis, yet express it in a unique and individual way. The sky is up for everyone. How does that work? This is who we are. This is how we korero. What's a belief, how do I have one, and how can I be sure? We start here, because what defines you in this world, and the world to come, is thinking. All you every own, are your thoughts. All you pass on to the next generation, are your thoughts. This is who you were.

Iam from the area and I know the history of that area and of Taupo and Turangi etc.. It maybe creepy to you, but those from that area have an entirely different prospective from you.
