  • Rare opportunity to have a 1988 1st Gen 4Runner beside a 1992 2nd Gen 4Runner and I thought people would enjoy this. Not meant to be a bible type video, I will admit there are those that know much more about these Toyota 4Runners than I. BUT that said, nobody posts videos of them side by side.
If you love classic Toyota's then this video is for you.

"You don't let go of a 5-speed". Amen. Feel the same way about my '94.

I love Toyota trucks and 4Runners, especially these older models. I have a radiant red 3rd Gen ('98) manual (mostly stock) and would love to see it next to these two gems. These look amazing.

The 3.0 V6 blew head gaskets like no one’s business unfortunately. Otherwise I still think the 2nd gen looks great.

Beautiful 4Runners mate, I currently own an 85 4x4 toy pickup, and a 94 4x4 pickup love them both. Wife owns an 87 4runner 5 speed 22re grey with black backtop and a 2022 4runner. The amazing thing is even the newer Toyotas feel like the old ones, just a bit more modern. They still feel rigid good.

I just can’t help myself. Love the older Toyotas even though I drive the newer ones. What a garage you must have!

We miss our silver 1989 First Gen 4Runner we bought brand new. We had to sell it after my wife had her stroke and could no longer drive the 5 speed. After 30 years of reliable service and only 88 K on the odometer she was still like news as a garage queen. Fortunately, we still have our 1991 4x4 Toyota truck.

Coincidence! I have a 1991 Toyota Pickup as well as this 88 4Runner. Love them both

@@BlackwoodTrucks Yes, very reliable long last trucks. Mine is in the light metallic blue with the blue interior. The 4Runner was a First gen in silver with gray interior.

Man, what a stroll down memory lane. When I was 25 I bought a brand new 1988 4 Runner. I drove that baby for over 200K miles until I bought a brand new 2000 4 Runner. I wish I still had that 1st generation truck. I was a fool for taking it in. I go to car shows all over New England and I have never seen a 1st generation 4 runner. Congrats on owning such a beautiful ride.

I have a 95 4runner 3.0l, which I'll be doing the 5vzfe swap as well. Mine has a 4 inch lift on 33x12.50r15s 4wd auto. I love it more than my 3rd gen, too.
Love the red second gen you got! I wish mine was that red!

    Now the question!
Is it possible to use any of these 2 as your everyday vehicle. Meaning the car is driven every single day of the week. From Granville, to East Van to Science World , to West 8 to West point grey so South Van.

I had an '85 SFA with 4 cylinder EFI and 5 speed for 10 years awhile ago, and currently have a '90 with V6/auto that I've owned for 20 years. The 2nd gen is far more road friendly and I personally prefer the 6 over the 4 cylinder engine for a vehicle of this size. 2nd gen also has the advantage of 4 doors, coil rear suspension and sheet metal that is a bit less prone to rust. Both are very attractive body styles, far more appealing than the following generations, IMO. The faux wood dash on this 2nd gen is news to me, didn't know it existed. I actually don't think it looks so great here.

I have a 95 4runner that my pops bought it 95. It had coil springs in the back until I lifted it and put leaf springs as well as added a solid axle upfront like the 85s

Do you sell trucks? I'm questioning because you do not provide a web site and a web search will only either refer you back to RUclips or direct you to a Lincoln model truck. How do you expect anyone to view your inventory by being secretive about it?
