The main issue is that he's really was not very good at fishing for kings in this video. He doesn't know how to find fish and thought the issue was his line being visible. That's not it. Chinook aren't line shy. He's one of the guys who goes out to a spot where people have caught fish and just trolls all day hoping to get lucky. He's also really handicapped by the fact he is on a kayak with a mini downrigger. I limit my boat most every trip for chinook. You have to know where to find them and be able to put a bait in front of them. Chinook often hug bottom because the bait stays near structure, but he can't even get there with his equipment.
27:24 The feeling when you land your first salmon... literally one of the most exciting moments especially if you land a King that big! Congrats Taku!! And that dish looked 🔥
I think we were all cheering when you finally landed that salmon. The fact that Jocelyn loves salmon and you didn't want to let her down was super sweet. Looking forward to the sushi ep!
This video had me banging my chest like an intense football game, I was screaming in my room “THIS IS YOUR MOMENT, CATCH THAT DAMN SALMON” props man. You got a new subscriber for sure.
man, i've been binge watching through your videos, seriously love them, I release about 95% of what I catch but i am definitely feeling inspired to start keeping some more fish and seeing what i can do. Keep up the awesome stuff.
15 years ago, i was one of the rnd engineers responsible for designing the Shimano Tekota 300, 301, Shimano TLD etc.. fun time being a designer of what you love. I hope they still continue to produce it here in Malaysia.
love the instinct over tech! I'm the same way. Only way to build that instinct is to go fishing, and two generations of my family fishing in same river before me and all those tips helps too! I like to say I don't go fishing, I go catching! =)
Another amazing video - thank you for making these!! Wow where to begin - the persistence, the scenery, THE WHALES, the epic struggle...and then a beautiful meal. Instinct over technology!!! 🤣
After putting in so much time and effort, and to finally catch that beauty, you just know it's going to be honored, and treated with the utmost respect in terms of prepping, preserving, cooking, and enjoying the taste. Too many times, with the big commercial boats, you see the fish treated like cheap slabs of meat. I love that rice tea recipe!
I love to see all the effort that went into catching the fish. I have watched many thousands of catch clean and cooks and people rarely show all the effort it really takes to catch a fish. This video was one that had me on the edge of my seat and I have to say awesome job.
I went around 35 times for king salmon this year so far and only caught 8. I usually don't go this much but because of covid, me and my dad have more time to fish!
Dmitry V salmon bite roe and lures in rivers when spawning our of sheer habit and aggression. Biting roe in particular is an attempt to get rid of the competition.
I believe Ocean salmon are feeding, most I catch there is lots of food in their stomach. River salmon fishing is completely different as you say It's only aggression.
I really appreciate u showing us the changes u made for ur set up when u weren’t getting any hits. As someone who is new at fishing it’s really helpful!
Awesome catch great job. I love that you show your skunk days it makes me and probably others almost feel the same joy as when u catch, it almost puts me there with you sharing the catch.... great job...
Might not remember me, especially since you blew up in popularity, but I've been watching since the OG catch and sushi! If possible you should try catching with a heart beat montior so we can see the moment you know there's a fish on the line. Especially when you were eating lol. Anyways love your stuff!
Happy for you.. Thanks for posting all your determination.. i fished 1 full season 63 days of trying without catching a trout fly fishing when i was 12. now not so hard. Awesome effort.
An epic battle of wills between man and fish. That Trout was thinking the same thing you were thinking, "He's got to be getting tired, I'll just wear him down." Good work my friend.
Adrenal rush... whales breaching all around, then a sweet six crank dive and, wham-o! Raw, candid content can practically be smelt, lol. There in spirit, pulling with ya, Taku. You're an awesome Angler, Adam Die Hard, too. Hook to cook, taste the fattiness... As an experienced Angler from PNW, this is honestly, absolutely Divine!
This video displayed how determined and persistent Taku is. I didn’t know there is California King Salmon. Kashi is rockin it with this channel. The combination of fishing, foraging and travel with a real chef is golden. Congratulations and the best of luck!
Who doesn't love Earnest Hemingway's "The old man and the sea"? You fit it right in the situation. Thank you for bringing back a wonderful literature American seems lost it for many years.
The guys telling him to “net the salmon already”... like, y’all jealous or something? My man’s alone on a kayak and has to solo net it while holding his rod in the other hand.
Yeah and I remember my first solo net job. My heart was pounding out of my chest. When I finally got it I was shaking like a leaf on a tree! Good job Taku!!
Hey taku, i’m from Brazil and I’m trying to learn English, your videos helps me a lot to practice my listening!! I’m glad to be part of it somehow... when you hook up the salmon, i’ve been so exited to see if you catch him, and when you miss the net, duuude... my heart race! Thanks for everything, your channel is amazing... peace ✌🏽 🇧🇷 ♥️
dude i grinned ear to ear for you the whole time you fought that fish. can't imagine landing one on a kayak like that amazing job! you earned that fish
Taku!!!!!! this was one of the most exciting kayak salmon fishing video I have seen! I loved it when you were talking to yourself. Trying to calm yourself down and tire him out!!! Great job at getting one in the can!! Persistence pays off!!!
Tempering the bowl in that grill also adds extra smokiness to the bowl for flavor! Great job Taku.. congrats on that fish you've been chasing for awhile and amazing presentation and cooking. Your cooking skills are off da charts.

i worked on a fishing boat in alaska last summer and caught a bunch of king salmon, some even bigger than taku's but i bet they taste 10x when you put in that much work
A suggestion, filet with skin on. Grill, skin side down. Brush with real butter , garlic and lemon pepper. 10-12 minutes with top down on grill. Cover with Parmesan cheese. 5 more minutes, until fish separates from skin. Spatula up, serve with garlic bread and Caesar salad......Yummie!
Best catch and episode ever bro! I'm not gonna lie, I kinda teared up when you netted her. So much came down to that one moment. Doing big things brotha!! LOVE IT!!!
I’m glad Taku didn’t edit out how difficult it actually is to fish! Patience is key and at the end of it all he got what he wanted! Great work

Wow. You definitely earned that fish. Five days of grinding to get that one fish. Thats pure will and determination. That video got me pumped up.

5 days, 1 salmon. I say that was a successful trip. Definitely worth it! Well done. 👍
Kings don’t feed when they are heading into the river but they bite out of reaction since that’s what they have done their whole life
Angry or hungry are the only reason a fish will bite.
Why do they swallow roe when used in the rivers?
Dmitry V it’s a territorial thing

Buncha NERDS! LOL
I haven't caught one but I could never dislike a Taku video.
now 88 people have got mad for not being able to catch one. doesn't seem like it's easy to catch a salmon...
Maybe it has to do with the 30 minutes of him just out in the water doing nothing 🤔
My favorite time of the year. Salmon run!!! Catching the limit per the day. Arms tired from the fights. Doesn't get better than that.
An epic battle of wills between man and fish. That Trout was thinking the same thing you were thinking, "He's got to be getting tired, I'll just wear him down." Good work my friend.
