When using number system, the count uses Alphabet. So if key is A, a 1/4/5 would be A is the 1 so starting on A, count 4 out from A and you get D cord as the 4, count 5 out from A and you get E as the 5 cord.
So if you play in key of E.
E is the 1 cord, count 4 out from E in Alphabetical order and the 4 cord is A. And the 5 cord is the B cord
    In a 1/4/5 progression.
    You guys are awesome!!!!!
I tried yo go a little further with explanation as I recently just learned this myself. I hope I didn't step on your toes fellas.

The Chord Scales, Nashville Numbers and barre chords all coming together was the biggest leap my playing, theory and fretboard understanding took. It turns the fretboard into kind of a music theory abacus that calculates all the intervals and relative scales in just a second. Understanding those was the gold nugget I wish I’d figured out earlier.

I have to say when I learned the Nashville number system that was the single most mind blowing thing for me. Along with everything revolving around the major scale.

      Agreed. Don't stop playing....
The real art of falling off the songbus is to be waiting at the next stop (1 count/chord change) instrument in hand without slowing/stopping the bus.
If all else fails, frame the botched solo/bridge in a tight beginning and tight ending.
You'd be surprised how often the room forgets the awful, chunky milk style version of the solo just played in the middle only to applause a smooth tight finish.
      Oh and keep smiling

Guitar dudes, you guys are priceless:) I have a different take on what the pros don't say, related to performance... Here is a taste of other things the pros won't tell you.
Here is a page from my playbook, titled
'How To Be Cool and Look Like a Rock Star; when you're really a clueless preppie with Daddy's money and a Rasta wig.'
Included in this series, we have - The Devil Smile,' The 'Pursed Lips with added Shoulder Roll,' and the 'Mystery Smile' with a head turn. (the audience will totally get it) But shush they won't tell... won't tell what? See. it's working. Ha! Ok, translations...
These are 'PRO' tips used by Great Pro Players of all styles when not only does the Pro Tip numbers (scale, chords) fly out of your head, but it's a total brain fart, and you play a completely wrong chord or totally sour out of key solo or god forbid, shift mid-riff into a 'Merengue'groove or a 'John Denver' song during a Metal revival. It's something so bad your audience is about to gag and fight over 'comfort bags, and your drummer is about to let a stick fly your way. A big 'Woops' moment, Yeah...THEN YOU MAKE IT LOOK INTENTIONAL!
    So, how is it done?
Here follows a couple of 'Pro' STAGE tricks: (many many more, but those are only available in the Pro version of the 'How To Be Cool and Look Like a Rock Star; when you're really a clueless preppie with Daddy's money and a Rasta wig.
PRO TIP number 1 - 'The Devil Smile: This can be used when either the 'Lead Player,' or 'Rhythm' player hits a really bad note, or bend, or chord. So what to do? 'The Devil Smile.' First, look at the audience with a big Toothy Grin then a slow turn of the head, from left to right then focus back to center with your big icy Devil Grin. You look as if you are connecting with someone in the audience. Then Nod knowingly. They will think you are cluing them into your secret sauce. 'like man, this is some heavy sh#t, I am not worthy."
PRO Tip number 2 - 'The Pursed Lips Shoulder Roll.' This is taken from the old Glam Bands, but if you can pull this off, no one will notice the mistake and You Izza Rock Star! This is the ultimate 'Cool' Detached look saying, 'I'm a badass, and it don't matter, cause I am I'm up here, and you're not...
    How it is done:
When you hit a really bad note, which continues as a major unpleasant flub, quickly turn your body to the left. Your right-side profile should be in view for the audience. Turn your head look right at them. Then drop your chin, purse your lips, like a kiss, Then ROLL your right shoulder forward, and around in a small circle, then bring it back, still pursing your lips. You can include a nasty tongue swirl to keep your lips looking wet like you just 'had some.' This look is your best 'I am a hot sexy Rock Star ' pretty boy' with girly lips. *IMPT, when you roll your shoulder, Time it with your Pursed Lips, make it erotic, then a small kiss to the front. Your followers will love you more, especially the girly boys who want to dress like a Rock God or at least wear sheer fabric.
PRO Tip - number 3 'The Mystery Smile' with a head turn.- This is for when you have no fu#kin idea what your doing, forgot the song and where you are, and if you blow it, you back in rehab. So, you can do it this way. Look at the people, drop your chin, smile with your lips together, either raise your eyebrow or wink, then scan the crowd with your head and eyes, still with that smile, then do a 'knowing' nod. Your fans will know you are secretly communicating with them.
'Don't worry about the band, you can pull the same move on them.' The audience will think you included them in a 'personal band moment' and will go wild. The band may want to kick your ass or kick you out, but you are who the fans love, Your band hates you for it, and to handle you, they get buzzed. So, tell them you'll enter rehab with them. Sign up but don't go. *CRITICAL here - it is important to be seen demanding you be back in rehab with your mates, make a fuss. The fans will love you more.
For a complete list of secrets of my "'How To Be Cool and Look Like a Rock Star; when you're really a clueless preppie using Daddy's money and a wig.
Click on 'buy now, and most importantly, since you want that 'Rock Star Cool,' Use Mommy's or Daddy's credit card. When they freak at the cost, just pout a little then say, with a slightly downcast face; I thought you wanted me to be happy." (compromise, let them put you in therapy).

Grrreat vid you guys--yeah you are most definately out of the Guild. I thought the number one tip was when somebody asks you "what do I need to do learn to how to play guitar" the answer is "don't start" (there's too many damn guitarists in the world). I do have a gigging tip that has 2 parts-1) don't show up to a gig so drunk that 2) you set up a preamp/multieffect unit upside down on your cabinet, so you spend 2 or more sets reading the setting numbers wrong. Darn 606, what's going on? And the knobs give you the opposite result too! Unfortunately this happened to someone else and I wasn't there to experience the fun! A friend's guitarist pulled this at a gig. Drink up buttercup-I think he passed out before the 3rd set. Good times...

You got a watch the Grateful Dead and how they signal each other. And also they have little squares of gaffer tape or duct tape on the floor and so when they were looking down the square helps them know exactly where the mic is and they step in to the Square but I think that when the dead have these little squares on stage they also use them to see when the singing is going to happen again they’ll step into the Square so that everybody’s ready. Then the next verse happens. And obviously when they’re having a jam that only somewhat has a structured they need to know when they’re going to go back into the words.

Truly: was driving me nuts, when starting Guitar. They say, 'Your in C Key because your starting at a C as the Root.' !?!?!?! I'm like really people? What does it matter where I start? If when I am in Key of G and every time I come across an F I play it Sharp. It was much easier when I just simply ignored them. Or If I see 2# in the Stanza I'm going to be playing all C's and F's sharp. Doesn't matter if the first note is a G. Oh yeah, and that would be the Key of A.
    Tip:: Strings on your Guitar GDAE (not counting (e)&B here) 1,2,3,4, G 1# - D 2#s - A 3#s - E 4#s
Sharps are always in the order of FCGD. (yeah I know. Easier on a Violin cause their strings are GDAE)
Most of will most likely never see music with more than 4 sharps. Rarely 3#s.
As a child I played orchestra with a 100 others. No one is going to wait for you, especially the percussionist.
Fake it until you make it back in cleanly, is the Rule.
This is why I have spent so much time in running scales and learning the Fret Board. It makes learning the music so much easier when you don't have to think about where the finger go and your not looking at which string you need to strum/pluck.
Thanks DØVYDAS and Sean for re-impacting my beliefs in learning a new instrument. Keep the Beat, Learn the where the fingers go, Run the Scales. Fake it till you Make it, be ready for Changes. Got it. That's 5 right? Prime - YES!

Funny how my fingers and ears and heart understand what they want to be doing and hearing --- more than my brain does.
best guitarists are great at winging it !
The trick is figuring out how to remember and organize the awesome sounds i luck into --- but since my memory recall is kinda unpredictable --- i end up having to find new and sometimes improved ways of keeping the music fresh and alive.
Leave that ridiculous Mainstream corporate redundant formulaic cookie-cutter acadamia-nut Musicians guild hogwash in the dust ...

Good stuff, especially liked the high drone idea. Have you done a video on secondary dominants, and such? E.g. 1 to flat 7 major ( A to G, etc. ) in other words, chords NOT within the original scale.

It was a complete mind trip. To the moon and back. Are we there yet? You guys should do that again...but WITH YOUR GUITARS!!! And make some music.

You forgot the one about strumming furiously, while pitching your body up and down to the beat, smiling the whole time, eyes closed with the Amp turned completely off. Works everytime. Chicks dig it.

    • @JoeyJoelBand
      @JoeyJoelBand 3 года назад

Yeah, dude, I know that one, but I don't remember turning my Amp off, or the bus leaving without me. How the fu*k I ended up in a cornfield,. a herd of mountain sheep...Damn, I thought it was a girl who lead me into the tall grass.
ON a great note, I just got gift sets of matched EL34s and matched 6L6 GL. I just re-tubed my amp with the matched 6L6, the other with EL 34. They sound like new. Here is a tip.. maybe too late in the day, but I'll say it for the possibility.
I went out into the less populated area. You know the type, on the fringe of rural life. Some kids invariably beg mom and dad for a guitar and amp, for graduation, So he gets it, plays for a bit then puts it in the closet. So the parents store his stuff. He doesn't play, so ten or more years pass, no playing, so his parents sell his stuff. (with permission) The thing is normal people think a beat-up old fender or speaker is junk... oh no, not for JBL. Mommy and Daddy babysat the amp with the blown JBL D120 F, thinking it's over, done, fried, total junk. I think ten or so years ago. I paid 25 for one, and 40 for the other heavily used and blown. I took them to a speaker expert and had them re-coned. My investment cost 65 dollars for two junk speakers JBL D120 F and the counterpart D130, same. the only difference is the 'F' is a fender designation. The D130 is an identical speaker, mine have aluminum cones. I think they all do. So 65 for two blown speakers the paper on one was shredded. 300, for re-coning junk speakers, and the re-guassing, I don't remember the cost of that. But they did and still do sound amazing. You can hear them on my guitar demo.
Back in my Generation, Iron butterfly did a show, in Longbeach. The guitar player's amp blew. I had my gear in our van, so I loaded him my single 12, 50 watt. RD 50 Music Man amp. This was a major Rock show at a giant auditorium. They took my single amp, one speaker, and mic'd it. The audience didn't know. Actually many rock gods of that era did that. Better distortion and breakup; and the wall of amps were for show. One single 12 worked for many hitmakers. Re-coning is awesome if you find the old ones. But you won't find them in cities, maybe at an estate sale. Out in the country is possible. I've been offered 800 to 1000 usd for each speaker. See kids, it pays to go to school. Oh, one little-known thing... Musicman Amps, was LEO Fender's company. CBS Came on, he left and kept his dream and designs,.. for a while. Wow, I wrote a lot. But so few guys are left from that era.
Damn M5, I thought you were M7, I still can't remember if we broke up that room or not. Therapy ya? Ok M 5, cheers. IF you are In SoCal, shoot me a note:) r anyone who will play the Blues, and rock it out too. I been civilized..

Hey everyone! I know I'm asking much but I could really use your help... I am a highschool student who just got interested in music. Before I wasn't really interested in anything music related maybe because I wasn't exposed with music until there was a new event at our school called "battle of the bands". Since the event was scheduled after school hours, I was not planning in watching and was ready to go home then my friend convinced me to attend. I don't have any plans or anything to do at home so I went with him to watch the event. When the first band showed up, I was really blown away by the performance and the music especially the guitar player when it was the solo part making me more interested and curious on what might the other band play. It was a really fun experience that after the event, I thought to myself if I can be like them, if even I can play music. Their performances gave me motivation to play music and now, one of my goals is to join a band and perform at the stage.
I want to start to play music specifically playing the electric guitar but I can't since my family is really strict about money and don't support my passion for music. So I am asking again for help if you can to support me in getting a guitar and some gears so I can start my journey on learning music because I am excited to learn to play guitar and perform at a crowd of people.
Also, Thank you to everyone in advance who is able to help donate as well as sharing!
