    Bold of you to assume that my contact point is always the strings, when I consistently hit my frame

      I don't even have strings on my racquet. Frame is all I hit. Even handle sometimes.

    Years ago, when I strung mostly for my students, I used a lot of Luxilon and RPM. When Wilson bought out Luxilon they jacked up the prices significantly. I searched for similar polys that were just as good and not so expensive. I was not successful. Now I am looking to string more (since I have some nice machines) and not sure of what to buy for strings. For synthetic I used anything cheap such as Prince or even Goosen Sheep micro. For multis I used mostly Gamma, Professional and XP. I could use some help as to what has changed recently. I did not string due to covid and living with a first responder often exposed to Covid.

    I always take nature gut for my racket. Since two days ago, 01-30, 2021, I have bought a new Kennex Black Ace Pro racket in Taipei, Taiwan. Then I stat to step out the nature gut world to the “ human made “ strings. This video helps me a lot to choose my new strings. Thanks again. Pei San Lee

      Thanks, Rishi! Multis are excellent, and there's quite a bit of variety within that family - I definitely think they're underrated.
      Kevlar has received a bad wrap over the years for its stiffness and lack of comfort, but I played with a Kevlar and premium synthetic gut hybrid for a large portion of my junior career, and it worked out great for me. I never had any arm issues, and it saved my parents quite a bit of money on stringing 😄
      You may have already stumbled across it, but I have a video dedicated to multifilaments if you have any interest in checking it out: ruclips.net/video/7XN3F0F4ypE/видео.html

    Thanks John for the videos. I must confess that I'm still not certain which strings or tension to go for. I play competitive club tennis but am totally clues about best tension and strings to use. Recently had my racket restrung but I now get tennis elbow and seem to have less control. Due to my build, generating power is not an issue but I really searching for comfort, feel and ability to generate a little more spin. Should I be going for a lower tension gut/polyester hybrid string???

    I’m a pretty big hitter and was thinking of switching to a multifilament from poly. I had Solico Confidental on my Wilson 100 v8 at 25kg and I felt like I had to swing too hard with my one handed backhand. Would Wilson sensation at 24kg do the job or should I just stick with a poly and drop the tension to 21-22kg?

    If I buy a pack of Luxilon and a pack of synthetic gut, will that be enough to hybrid two rackets?

    • @michaelh5160
      @michaelh5160 3 года назад

      Yes. If you string in a two-piece pattern, you'll normally use half a packet for the main strings (20 feet, about 6.1 metres) and the other half (also 20 feet) for the cross strings. A single pack therefore adds up to about 40 feet or 12.2 metres of string. You'll also find that there will be extra string left over which you'll cut off at the end (this allows for oversized rackets). Main strings are longer but there are fewer of them, hence half the packet.

    Great Video! I play with a Pure Aero Lite, strung with Rpm Blast at 50lbs around 2 months ago, should I switch to a hybrid string like Wilson Nxt/ Alu Power?

    • @TennisCompanion
      @TennisCompanion  3 года назад +2

      Thanks, Hoang! Great question. When making a switch from one string setup to another, I think it always helps to ask what you're hoping to gain by making the change or what you dislike about your current strings.
      Many players who move from a full poly setup like RPM Blast to a hybrid like Wilson NXT and ALU Power are interested in gaining added power, feel, and comfort. If that resonates with you, then it could be a good move.
      Of course, if you like Babolat RPM Blast, you can maintain that as your poly and pair it with a multifilament like Wilson NXT or another like Babolat Xcel - I share some of my favorites here:
      tenniscompanion.org/multifilament-tennis-strings/
      I'm a big fan of hybrid setups, but they're not for everyone. If you'd like to dive a bit deeper into the topic, I'd encourage you to check out my guide, which covers it from different angles. For example, you'll want to keep in mind that the string you use in the mains will dominate the overall feel:
      tenniscompanion.org/hybrid-tennis-strings/
      I hope that helps!

      @@TennisCompanion Wow, thanks a lot, I am probably gonna put a poly in the mains and multi in the cross because switching from a full bed of poly to a hybrid of multi in the mains is tough and I also struggle to control the ball even with a full bed of poly, so I raise the tension on both strings maybe poly 55lbs or 25kg and multi 54lbs or 24kg and the main reason I switch from a full bed of poly to a hybrid is because a full bed of poly like Rpm Blast is too stiff for me, if I shank the ball on my pure aero lite, my elbows sometime hurts immediately after that painful wave of shock hits my arm and putting multi in the cross is gonna give some comfort

    Hi there, hope you could shed some light on this.
    Ive recently just got back into tennis after a few years out and my strings looked pretty yellow along with a large amount of fraying.
    I had them changed to synthetics because thats all they had at the time, before i had a hybrid set up. Now i'm struggling with my contact point like 90% there is no room for error and i have to really put some pace on the ball to get the feel.
    Is this just a transitional thing or are these strings not for me??
    I haven't had an ACE in ages and i cant dictate the ball direction as well.

    Hi! thanks for the video. What would you recommend? I have an extreme grip (bevel 6-7) and I use a Wilson ProStaff 340gr. So I have problems when they push me too hard or fast because my extreme grip doesn't give me too much time. I need a lot of support so I was thinking maybe using multifilament. What would you suggest and what tension too. By the way I play at 2600 mts so the ball flyes a lot here hehe. THANk You!

    If i string my racket with solinco hyper g , how long should i restring my racket ? . I play 3 days a week .

    • @TennisCompanion
      @TennisCompanion  4 года назад +2

      Hi - great question. How frequently you restring depends on a variety of factors unique to each individual player. If you haven't seen it, I'd encourage you to check out a video I published on the topic last week, "How Often to Restring Your Tennis Racquet [Guide]:"
      ruclips.net/video/ZYGoKSgCRIc/видео.html
      Generally, I'd expect to string polyester tennis strings more frequently than other types of strings due to the higher than average rate of tension loss they experience.
      As a point of reference, I typically restring most polys every 7-10 days because that's when I tend to notice a drop in performance and comfort. I also string my own racquets, so that helps keep costs down.

    I’m so confused how a hexagonal or pentagonal shaped poly is utilized when strung in the crosses like Novak and Roger use. (Well Roger uses a pentagonal shaped in the crosses, Novak uses a round shaped one)
    My main question is, for durability of your gut, would using a pentagonal shaped poly like Alu Power Rough in the mains cause too much friction on your gut?

    I play with an RF97A v.11, Should I go full bed multifilament (X-One Biphase) or hybrid it with Luxilon (poly) on cross?

    • @TennisCompanion
      @TennisCompanion  4 года назад +1

      Hi Colin! I prefer stringing the RF97 with a hybrid or, as an alternative, going with a full poly setup. For me, a full bed of X-One is too powerful and doesn't offer quite the level of topspin that I'd prefer.

      I was thinking about getting string savers so the poly doesn't cut thru the multi in a short time frame, but was worried they would alter feel, spin, or power in a negative way?
