If you want to work in video making or video editing or you simply want to understand more about pixels, resolutions and aspect ratios, this is the vlog for you.
I tried to use simple visuals to explain what these video making / photography foundations are and how they are used.
I will talk about resolutions like Ultra HD, Full HD 1080p, HD 720p, SD 480p and aspect ratios such as 16:9, 4:3, 1:1.

Thank you! I'm just learning about the foundation and basics for being a self-shooter and understanding everything that goes into filming and doing cinematography, and this video is really helpful in understanding how aspect ratio and resolution act together to avoid basic misunderstanding. Thanks!
Ciao Chiara. Thanks for the message. I am glad the video was helpful. And yes, it is better to get the basics right at the beginning! Consider to subscribe and join me also on my website at www.mamoair.com for more tutorials and courses

Great explainer video man!
Ma grande. Ma allora ci sei ahahah? How is it?
I probably watched 60 videos on the topic, and yours clarify much of it. Sure, I"m a bit slow too, but your explanation displaying the differences in frames worked for me. Thanks a lot.

Hey, my man, thank you so much, and nice explanation. My biggest concern and the reason why I watched your video was because I didn't know what would happen to my resolution if I happened to change my aspect ratio. And I've learned from you that, I would still retain my video size and quality. So again, thank you.

So nice presentation...👏👌👍
Thank you. How are you?
Mamo Air great my friend home and l am painting. I was wondering way channel as your do not have milions viwers and subscribers??? I really do not know what how this algorytham works...good luck my friend...
Ah. Great to hear you are painting. I got back to some drawing too in these days. Thanks for the nice words. The algoritm is very strange, it is really hard to gain views and followers eheh
Excellent

so to make sure im getting this right for example on youtube you can watch a video in different resolutions all the same size on my monitor. but the reason it looks worse for lower resolutions is because the pixels are more zoomed in?
Hello and thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. The reason an image is less clear it because it has less pixels. Hit subscribe and join my community. Ciao
very helpfull

If I want to play videos on a movie screen but at a resolution where I can play the videos from a computer and run smoothly, I would create the content in 2.39 aspect ratio but save the project in 16:9 resolution. Is what I am saying correct?
Hi Josè. Thanks for checking the video. I am not sure I understand what you mean. Also, I think you refer to 2.39x1 aspect ratio? And also 16x9 is aspect ratio, not a resolution
@@MamoAir I know. I mean that if you don't have a powerful computer, it will be difficult to reproduce that resolution. And as an option it could be converted to 1080 so that the video was more fluid.
4:52 so why don't we see 1920x1080 videos that small?
Hi. You don't see the video that small because I filmed this video in 1080p and you qre watching it in a 1080p frame. What I showed at 4:52 is an example of how a 1080p video would fit in a 4k frame and its proportion. Thanks.
@@MamoAir Thanks, but why with a 4k monitor I don't see it that small?
it starts at 1:40, great video
Thanks
great video. My only question is does the number of pixels ever have any correlation with the aspect ratio or can any aspect ratio contain any amount of pixels. Can a 16:9 aspect ratio contain 50 pixels say? (albeit a terrible picture) Or can a 4:3 ratio have 1080p?
Hello there. Thanks for the question. The aspect ratio is not linked to the amount of pixels. For example 1920×1080 pixels resolution is a 16:9 aspect ratio. But also 160×90 pixels resolution is a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Hope this helps. Consider to subscribe for more videos. Ciao
@@MamoAir thanks for the reply. So pixels can be different sizes? So 160 x 90 pixels can fit on a 50" TV the same as 1920x1080? Have subscribed!
@@hawkes3992 no, pixels do not have different sizes (even though they can have a square or rectangular shape too). 1 pixel is 1 pixel, which is the smallest unit of measurements of resolution. The aspect ratio is based on a unit measurements that in the case of 16x9 will fit 16 times on the horizontal axis and 9 in the vertical axis. It is explained in the video :-)
The size of your monitor or television does not depends on the amount of pixels of the resolution. You can have a 50" television with a Full HD resolution or having a smaller monitor with resolution in 4K.
Thanks for sub!
@@MamoAir yes I understand the ratio measurements bit - that's the easy part! But surely if you have two different resolutions on the same sized TV screen. Say you have 1920 x 1080 and 1280 x 720 on a 50" screen? Surely the lower resolution picture would have larger pixels to fill the screen since there's fewer of them? Does that make sense?
@@hawkes3992 Yes, that is correct. And the image quality would surely be worse with the lower resolution.
If you want to test resolution, play around with this videos settings. The lower the resolution, the "grainer" the video will appear. The higher the resolution, the clearer it will appear. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for stopping by
why is it that with lower resolution the size becomes smaller as well? it shouldn't be that way is it? given they have same aspect ratios?
Hi there. The resolution is not proportional to the aspect ratio. You can have 2 different frames with same aspect ratio of 16:9 but different resolution, one of 1920x1080 pixels and one with 160x90 pixels, for example. Hope it makes sense. So one smaller than the other
Can relate to intro😂🤣
Ahaha. Great! Hope the video helped then. Stay tuned for weekly content
Yeah thanks . Now this concept s are cleared😊. Subscribed
