Hey if you really wanted the, "metal feel" you could always make it out of a burning barrel, no clue how strong it would be. Considering the thickness, but they are pretty resilient. Also, that Pauldron looks wickedddddd. Also also, whatcha gunna do for 1K subs?
I thought about that! Actually I realized after making this that these barrels are kinda pricey. I couldn't find one for under $70 bucks. The metal drums are literally like $10 more. Not sure exactly how thick they are but I think that would be a very good idea. You can get a pretty good amount of armor out of one, so I think it would be one of the cheapest ways to get steel for it. I honestly have no idea what to do for 1k subs. Can't think of anything creative that i could pull off in enough time. And to be honest, pretty much every build i do is better enough than the last one to classify as a special project. I think im just going to a 2018 wrap up vid around new year though.
@@jakemakes I'm making one of my own, but I'm a couple steps behind you. I haven't actually started yet lol my workshop is 25 miles from where I live and it's snowy and cold so that really slows my progress.
@@jakemakes oh and I was thinking when you have the full suit done, you and your cousin/brother could do a cinematic fight scene like you did a few videos back. That was definitely entertaining to watch.
Yeah..... I want to do a video testing the plastic to see how tough it is, but i put so much work into the gauntlet that I don't think i could bring myself to damage it 😬😁
My goodness! This is bueatiful!! You made such an incredible shoulder piece! 10/10 would watch again. This good sir, is brilliant! For your first time building armor, you did great, man. P.S you got my name right. I love the vids. Keep producing, I'll always watch. Thank you again for making this video :)
Not gonna lie you'd be a pretty good larper with your skills in costuming(probably didnt spell that right) anyways i do alot of my work with metals i make masks and im working on a stop sign pauldron that i have yet to buy the needed tools for but i feel like your skills would come in handy you should search up dystopia rising we are always looking for somebody with crafting skills in anything tbh we have a marketplace for it and love the videos keep it up! Basically cloth does a pretty good job stopping blades. A lot more than people think. Not armor per say but it does turn a lot of cuts that would be bad into not much. You can watch all sorts of testing videos. The hoodie sweatshirt that I’m using is pretty hefty, it’ll do a decent job
Don't know if a planer would work but yeah, you could make a sheath out of it if it was thinner. It feels just like the stuff a regular five gallon bucket is made of. Kydex is more, well, less plasticy if you know what i mean. I think a five gallon bucket or pvc would be a better choice for sheathes cause they are thinner and cheaper though
@@jakemakes Understandable, I've been extremely busy but I have money for projects now so I can finally put stuff out. I'm on the coast in Harrison county, though I waste a lot of gas going wherever.
Then I take it you volunteer to drive to me? Lol kidding. Nah that isn't the end of the world. Send me an email and i'll give you my number jakedmena@gmail.com
I know this is an older video but I'm about to attempt this with some thick broken plastic pipe I found. It's most likely PVC and the walls are just shy of a centimeter thick. I suppose that titanium would be better but it's too damned expensive! I'll let you know if this works.
Good luck! I will tell you pvc (especially if it’s been out in the sun forever) is more brittle than this stuff. So I’m going to guess it will break if hit hard enough with a sword or the like
@@jakemakes Thanks! It's more for practicing making armor than actually working. It's the green drainage stuff so I doubt it has a UV resistant coating or whatever like PVC conduit has.
😂😂😂no lol you need to take your spark generator and ZAP THAT THING OFF If I'm honest with myself though only wish I was as manly as you are. My aunt has more facial hair than I do 🤣

Sounds good, hope it works for ya!
Enjoyed the build, keep plugging away till ya got the whole suit!! Can't wait for the next video.
Thnks man! yeah its going to be sweet when I eventually have a full suit done 😀

Luke Cope Oh thats a good idea 😃
Never thought about using a plastic barrel for armor. Might try something like this for a costume I have in mind. Great vid!
Oh its great for prop armor. Do it!
If you want a good template, you could look at a simpler variant gothic pauldrons.
Awesome man!!! Sweet editing as always!
You should do a flail test on the metal and the ABS plastic armor to see how each fair.

Awesome video brother. You remind me of so many of my buddies that I grew up with.
Thanks 😊
Nice video man, hope one day your channel become as big as ZNA Productions.
Thanks dude, me too :)
Ah I see you are a man of culture as well

Thanks Josh!
Would you mind emailing me your process and blueprints?
Wow bro well done you just gave me hope for my next cosplay i hope you make more vids about how to make armors
Literally my next video series is how to make Apocalypse Armor
What would happen if you used the existing strap holes and did an X mount instead of parallel?
Great video! Don't have any of the materials but I enjoyed watching
thanks bethany!
Hey Jake, nice video !
Keep the good content flowing.
THanks Kevin! Will do
you know you could use a heated metal nail or rod to cut through the plastic. it might be easier than a jigsaw.
Nah the jigsaw is way faster. The plastic is too thick, the heated rod would cool too fast. Plus that would likely create some nasty fumes
@@jakemakes shot bru.. I see what u mean. keep the videos comming they're great

Sounds cool I’ll look it up
Next time maybe try sealing the pieces with plastidip? which also doubles as a primer
A hoodie might stop the cut... Might... But it wont stop your collar bone from snapping
True dat
alcol based ink will stik
It looks awesome! But how long does the plastic need to have heat on it? Does the texture change when it gets hot, or too hot?
I mean it can burn if you get it too hot. Just be a tad careful. It’s pretty forgiving.
Please explain how a hoodie will prevent slashing / stabbing? (This is a serious request.)
Look up medieval gambeson

Could you make a knife sheath out of that stuff? It looks kinda like KYDEX. Might be a little thick though... run it through a planer?

Haha yeah I think thats actually a pretty good option for a cheapo/make do sheath.
Dude! I'm also in Mississippi! We definitely have to do a collaboration. I'm about to drop part two of my file knife.
Yes yes! I subbed, hadn't seen your channel before. Your gauntlets are sweet! Whereabouts in this great state are ya located?
