    Our recent attempt for striper fishing didn't go so well. Went to San Luis reservior (Oniel Forebay) 2 weeks ago. A Striper hot spot. Took us most of the day to find the stripers. They were all along the rock wall then the wind came up to strong to stay. Went back a week later and they were no where to be found. Real bummer. Will try this method. Wish us luck.

      @@acolachi live blue gill work very well, if you have a boat they are good for drift fishing kinda hard from the bank cause casting them out beats em up but if you can drop ghem over a edge like a dock or something that would work from shore, I use them all the time if I can catch them, otherwise I use fileted sardines with some twine to keep my bait on works well

      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  4 года назад +1

      Sorry about that, I shot that part when I went live on RUclips on that day and forgot that I only had the footage from my phone, which was too low res. For whole baitfish I hook in the dorsal closer to the rail so it swims up off the bottom and change it out every 20 minutes. If it’s dead baitfish, I hook in the top of head so I can cast far without tearing it off. 👍

    Always great stuff. What is your opinion on the thumping or splashers

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  4 года назад +1

      Can be extremely effective in the right places. Freshwater thumping works because the stock came from hatcheries where noisy feeding machines threw out the feed. They were trained to eat when hearing the noise. Pavlov dogs. I do this near Lobster pots especially. The big girls are lazy and love the Lobster shorts that get dropped over board along with any by-catch. 👍👍👍

I’m a fresh water fisherman but the bay and a fishing pier is right in front of my house trying to get into salt water but have no idea what a good rig would be or what bait is good during different times

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  2 года назад

      It’s good for both. Just use a larger hook for cut bait and a smaller one for live bait. In spring blood worms and clams will catch more numbers of fish, cut fresh Bunker will often produce larger fish. Live eels are great in fall, but you need a float rig if you’re casting from shore or they will go right under rocks.
